Keeping Our Home (Holliday Book 2)

She snorted. Having a sex conversation with her father was always an interesting tidbit between conservatism and just plain oddness. But he was right, she should go check in on him. "Alright, I promise to go check in on him later today, happy?"
"Quite. I'm off," he said, going through the main hallway and towards the front steps.
She watched him walk away, unsure what the conversation was actually about, but knowing it had very little to do with Pistol. Her father had never really cared that much for Pistol or Pistol's father, but maybe it was tugging at his own insecurities. Maybe he wanted her to stay, it was all unclear and bothersome.
She was about to steel herself to call Boston when she heard her father cry out, and she heard him fall down. She ran out of the kitchen, bare feet against the cold stone of the house, towards the main steps.
She found her father collapsed on the steps, face up, looking at the sky. "What happened?" she screamed, her medical instincts kicking in. She propped his head up, looking for anyone to help her. There was no one around her. "Talk to me Dad, are you ok?"
He looked up at her, his eyes blank, his breathing shallow. Tears welled up in her eyes, thinking that his might be the last time she could talk to her father. Quickly, she fished inside his pockets, looking for his phone. Her hands struck against broken glass and she realized that he had fallen on it, his penchant for carrying everything in his back pocket finally coming back to literally hurt him. She left it, wondering if she should leave him to call an ambulance.
She heard the sound of hooves hitting the hard gravel in the driveway and getting closer. She looked up to see Marty dismount and run towards her. "Hey, you wouldn't believe what I just found," he screamed, running towards her. All she could hear was the sounds of his feet against the gravel, the same gravel that she had run on herself, coming home to her father's open arms.
"Call an ambulance," she yelled back at him, but he wasn't close enough to see that Saul wasn't alright.
"You would not believe," he yelled again, and then finally saw Saul sprawled against the stone steps. He stood frozen, horrified at what he was seeing.
"Please," Lilith said. "Call an ambulance now."
