  Prologue:

  The Day We Fell

It was a silent April night in the beautiful city of Washington D.C. The clouds began to cover the skies and would eventually allow water to start falling from the skies. Thunder and lightning would soon follow the rain as everyone in the city began to get ready for a good night’s rest. Little did these people know that they would be getting no rest that night and unfortunately most of them would not live to see the next day.

Amongst these people who lived in the city was the one and only President Jill Steinbeck. She was currently sitting at her desk in the Presidential Oval Office as she finished the days’ worth of paperwork.

As she strokes her pen across the sheets of paper she listened to the raindrop and hit the window behind her. She always enjoyed listening to the rain as it made her feel more calm and relaxed and it made her not so sad being stuck in her office all day doing work.

Jill continued her work but would soon be interrupted by the knock on her door.

Jill put down her pen and look up towards the door. “Come on in.”

The door soon opened and in came the man who could always encourage her and bring her happiness no matter what the situation was. This was her husband Kevin.

“How’s work going?” he asked as he made his way towards her and leant in to kiss the top of her forehead.

“It’s going,” she answered with a smile as she embraced Kevin’s kiss. “Just trying to get this last bit of paperwork done.”

“Haven’t even been in the White House for half a year,” Kevin spoke. “But I already barely see you.”

“Comes with the job,” Jill replied. “Sorry.”

“It’s ok,” Kevin responded with a smile. “You’re making me proud. You always do, though.”

Jill got out from her chair and went over to grab Kevin’s hand. “I always try my best.”

“Come with me,” Kevin said as he ushered Jill over to the window behind the desk. “I love watching a good night’s rain.”

The couple quietly watched the rain fall and hit the window as they held each other in their arms. This was the first time the two of them had been able to spend quality time together all week. They wanted to enjoy it while it last because they knew too well it would not last for very long.

“Our lives have changed so much,” Jill began to speak as she broke the silence.

“It’s a good change,” Kevin reassured her with a bright smile. “You are going to bring great changes to this country, Jill. I know it.”

“I hope you’re right,” Jill sighed.

“Of course, I am,” Kevin began to joke. “When have I ever been wrong?”

The two of them began to laugh with each other.

“Lots of times,” Jill said as she continued to laugh. “But let’s just enjoy the moment.”

“I think that’s a great idea,” Kevin responded as he squeezed Jill tighter in his arms.

Unfortunately, the moment did not last very long. There was a long pause of silence in the city and then chaos erupted.

Jill and Kevin were soon disrupted by the rumbling of the ground as a giant fire explosion could be seen in the distance through the window.

“What the hell,” Kevin broke the silence as he left Jill and made his way closer to the window.

“Is that what I think it is?” Jill asked in disbelief.

Kevin was such in shock he did not hear Jill or answer but only murmured to himself, “my god.”

The destruction was not finished. Another explosion soon followed and would soon be followed by several more in the far distance from the White House.

The door behind them quickly opened and the two of them quickly turned around. A massive swarm of Secret Service agents rushed to Jill and Kevin’s side with their weapons drawn out and ready.

“What the hell is going on Keegan?” Jill asked the head Secret Service agent of the group who had been a close friend to Jill for many years.

“We’re not sure yet,” the agent responded. “We’ve gotten several reports of drones attacking areas around the city.”

  “Any casualties?” Jill asked.

“Unfortunately, yes,” Keegan answered. “Too many to know so far.”

Jill then realized what was happening. She had worked so hard for the past several months to avoid this from happening but she was too late.

  “We’ve been hacked.”

“Hacked?” Kevin asked in shock. “Are you sure?”

“Positive,” Jill replied. “We need to get out of the country. We aren’t safe here anymore.”

“Where are we to go?” Kevin asked Jill.

“Scotland,” she answered. “I have an old friend there. She will help us.”

“Then we need to get you to Marine One right away,” Keegan spoke. “Marine One can fly you to the airport and we can get you on Air Force One right away.”

“Then we need to move,” Kevin said. “And fast.”

Before the group could start making their way out the door the White House alarm system began going off signaling the White House was now in danger.

A male voice came over the intercom system and began to speak, “robots gathered at the front gate! This is a full system lock down!”

“Damn it!” Keegan cursed out loud.

  There was no escape anymore.

Keegan then lifted his wrist to his mouth and began talking in the com system, “I need all available agents by the Oval Office now. Secure the front doors as well.”

Kevin then made his way towards Jill as he saw how worried she was.

“Everything is going to be ok,” he comforted her. “These agents are highly trained and good at their jobs but you have to be strong.”

Jill nodded at Kevin in agreement. “I can do that.”

“We’ll get through this,” Kevin smiled at her. “Together.”

Moments later there was another explosion but this one was
much closer as the whole room shook violently.

“What the hell was that!” Keegan yelled in the com system as he tried to find out some answers.

  No answer.

The male voice once again came on the intercom system but this time you could hear gunfire and screaming of agents in the background. “Main gate down! Repeat, main gate down! Robots have entered the complex and have overrun us!”

The voice soon fell silent as a loud gunshot could be heard through the intercom and the sound of a body falling to the floor.

The man on the intercom was dead.

Keegan and the other agents quickly approached Jill and loaded their guns with their ammo clips.

“We are getting you out of here now,” Keegan spoke.

The exchange of gunfire could be heard now through the room as it got louder and louder as the robots approached.

Kevin then began to speak, “you need to hide Jill. We aren’t going to outrun these robots but we can outsmart them.”

“What are you proposing?” Jill asked.

“We’ll distract them and try and take out as many of the robots as we can,” Kevin proposed. “Once they can’t find you they will leave the White House.”

“Absolutely not,” Jill replied. “It’s way too dangerous.”

“Everything will be ok,” Kevin replied. “Hide under your desk and I’ll come find you once they are gone.”

Keegan approached Jill and nodded. “He’s right Madam President. It’s the only way.”

“But you’ll die,” Jill said as tears began rolling down her face.

“We all know what could happen when we got the job,” Keegan replied. “We’ll make sure Kevin is alright.”

“Thank you,” Jill responded as more tears began rolling down her eyes.

“You’ve been a great President Jill,” Keegan spoke. “But even a better friend. It’s been an honor.”

Keegan soon later lead the group of agents out the door as they positioned themselves in the hallway and waited for the robots to approach.

Kevin lead Jill over to the desk as she soon crawled under it for cover.

“I will come back for you,” Kevin told Jill as he stared at her eyes. “I promise.”

Kevin then left Jill alone and shut the lights off as he made his way out the door.

Then there was a long pause of silence.

Moments later the clanking of machine parts and robotic talking could be heard getting closer and closer. Then there was gunfire.

The agents positioned right outside the office began shooting at the robots and the robots did the same. Several screams of the agents being hit could be heard as the exchange of gunfire started to become less and less. Then it stopped.

The robots could be heard walking past the room but they never entered the room and soon later they were gone.

Jill continued to hide underneath the desk as she waited for Kevin to come back for her. It seemed like hours had now passed but soon later the door opened.

“Jill,” Kevin whispered. “You still there?”

Jill quickly got up from beneath the desk and ran over to Kevin as she cried tears of joy.

“I knew you would come back,” Jill cried in relief. “I told you, I would,” Kevin responded. “Come on. Let’s get out of here.”

Kevin lead Jill out the door and into the hallway. The hallway was littered with bullets and holes in the walls. The bodies of the fallen agents covered the floor as they made their way through.

“Where’s Keegan?” Jill asked as she looked around at all the fallen agents.

“We got separated,” Kevin answered. “We both tried to lead the robots away from the oval office but had to take different paths as we started to get overrun.”

“He must be out there somewhere,” Jill replied. “I just know it.”

“Come on Jill,” Kevin ushered her. “We have to get going.”

Jill and Kevin continued through the now lifeless White House. As they made their way towards the front door they continued to walk over dozens of now lifeless bodies of agents who gave their lives for Jill. Some robots filled the floors as well but nothing compared to the number of agents.

They soon made their way to the front door but Jill stopped Kevin before making their way outside.

“So many dead,” Jill said. “Because of me.”

“They died because they believed in you Jill,” Kevin spoke. “They all trusted and believed in you. Keegan believed in you and so do I. This is just the beginning.”

Kevin then held out his hand for Jill to take.

“You’re right,” she responded as she took his hand. “This isn’t over.”

The two now walked out the White House’s front doors and into the destroyed city.

Kevin then turned to Jill as they continued to walk out the doors. “Have hope Jill. We have a long journey ahead of us.”

  The Revelation

  The Truth Will Be Revealed

  1

  The Changing World

After the Battle of New York, things have never been the same. The country was plunged into another bloody war and this time we were the minds behind it. Cerberus was at war with a new revolution.

It’s been one year since that day that changed the future of this country. Many people died that day to give us the opportunity to make a difference and take back our country from Cerberus and we are going to make sure those lives did not die in vain. We must honor those who gave their lives.

Over the past year, we’ve been making some progress but at a very slow rate. Ever since New York, we have had floods of people come join our cause but still have gained little territory to even hurt Cerberus. We still lack the numbers to create a stable and powerful offence even though we have soldiers willing to fight they still lack experience in comparison to Cerberus’ forces.

On the bright side of news, Kevin has recovered fully and is up and around like a brand-new person. That injury from New York really had him out for a while but we are all relieved to see him up and fighting again. Since then he has been the head of running the base we created once we returned to Nebraska around eight months ago. We have expanded the base we already had at the movie theatre and now have a military headquarters and even a command room with up to date technology and equipment.

After Joe turned back on the power a year ago, we have been able to reach out to different groups around the country through radios, computers, and phones. The downside is even with the power turned back on we still don’t have a strong enough signal to try and reach out to other countries. We have been trying since we created our new and expanded base but still hear nothing but silence. Everyone around base argues saying that there is no one else out there and that all the other nations were wiped out but I don’t believe so.

In addition, we have made many new friends with all the new recruits flooding in to join the cause. One of the most notable ones is our new friend Greg who most would describe as a technical genius. Greg is around the same age as Joe and they even knew each other before the days of Cerberus. Joe told me that they used to work together a long time ago before he even met Jill.

Greg has helped most in developing new weapons and technologies for us to use against Cerberus. The most notable of his inventions is his cloaking device he developed to help shield our base from being spotted by Cerberus drones or robots. The device hides our base from being spotted by their radars and every time there is a drone it flies right past us. The downside to this invention is it doesn’t hide our base from being spotted by humans but we have never had a problem since Cerberus is very unlikely to send in a human troop force to Nebraska where nothing remains but a trash dump.

On the other hand, Jill recently has been traveling around the unoccupied Cerberus territories and has been trying to increase morale amongst people while trying to get them to join the revolution. She’s been gone the past five months on her mission but is due to return sometime today.

  As I look back o
n how much everything has changed around me there is still one thing that has not changed at all and that is my friends. Everybody is just like before with their attitudes and complaints and most importantly their personalities. Even in the most stressful of times they still find a way to make me smile and laugh every once in a while.

Over time we have all become close friends with Lindsay as well and she joins in on making everyone laugh and smile. She’s an excellent shooter but even better at close range combat and has taught us some different skills and techniques.

My thoughts were soon later interrupted by a knock on my door.

“Come on in,” I told the person outside of my room.

The door opened to reveal my sister McKenna who had obviously came to see if I was doing well.

“Is everything ok?” she asked me as she came to the desk I was sitting at.

“Everything is fine Kenna,” I told her as I looked up at her and smiled. “Stop worrying about me. I can take care of myself.”

“When you say that it just makes me worry even more,” she responded.

“Now, what do you have to tell me?” I asked her.

McKenna started walking away from the desk and back towards the door, “Kevin wants you at the command center. He says he wants you there with him for when Jill arrives.”

“And do we know when that’s supposed to be?” I asked.

“Does it look like I know?” McKenna answered sarcastically. “No one tells me anything.”

“She’s coming back today,” I replied. “Sometime today. That’s all I know too.”

“Well the sooner the better,” McKenna said. “Kevin has been a little on edge all day.”

“He’s probably just anxious to see Jill again,” I tried to reason with her. “They haven’t seen each other in a very long time.”
