As Thad led them back toward Dom’s farm, images of the little Wilambrooges children filled his head. The youngest, Meg, was only four. Thad had stood outside the house with the other men, while the midwife brought her into the world, screaming. That was when Thad’s healing Energy was new. He had wanted to go inside but the women would have none of him, not until later when they realized he was a decent healer, better than most.
Anger rose at the image of tiny Meg’s reddened face and squirming body. She had cried until her father held her. The women teased Dom about his gentle way with children, but Wilambrooges was a good father, a good man. Perhaps the Goddess had spared him. And my uncle.
Thad pushed the rage deep inside. His fury must wait until he found the raiders. Until then, he steeled himself for the challenges ahead and silently begged the Goddess for strength.
