  “Wait.”

She stopped kissing him. “What?” she asked. “Did you change your mind?”

He lifted her chin. “Have you ever done it in a morgue before?” he inquired.

  “With Chris?” she asked.

  “Yes.”

She wouldn’t lie to him. “Yes. I guess that means this is a total turn off for you.”

  He lifted her chin. “No.”

  “No?”

“It just means I have to make it so spectacular, you never forget it. I don’t want to compete with him. I want you to think about me too.”

  She got it.

Ethan was offering another olive branch.

  Acceptance.

“I love you, Ethan. I always will.”

He took that as his sign.

Blackhawk tossed her over his shoulder and headed for the room he knew Doc used to take breaks.

In it, there was the couch, the table, and more counter. Spinning his wife, he pulled her back against his chest. His hands immediately began wandering.

  “Ethan,” she whispered.

He slid his hand into her jeans, and found her wet and ready for him. That was something she couldn’t fake. What they had…

  It was real.

Sliding his fingers in and out of the dampness, her legs began to quiver.

When he stroked her roughly, she came, his name on her lips.

“That’s only the beginning,” he admitted.

  Elizabeth hoped.

There was nothing like Ethan driving the pleasure bus. Plus, the idea that he’d do it in the morgue…

It was sexy how he was coming out of his shell.

Sliding his hand out of her jeans, he spun her again so that she was facing him.

  “My turn.”

He shoved her to her knees.

When she unzipped his dress pants, it was hard not to notice that someone was really turned on.

Yeah, Ethan didn’t mind the morgue at all.

“Take me in your mouth,” he ordered.

  Elizabeth did just that.

“While you’re at it, I want to see your amazing breasts,” he ordered. “Open your shirt.”

  She did as he said.

Her soft, pale breasts were out, and Ethan was able to stare back and forth between them.

  “Out of the shirt.”

She dropped it to the floor.

“I want to feel your breasts all over me,” he said, popping out of her mouth.

Elizabeth reached around and unhooked her bra. As soon as she tumbled free, Ethan shoved his rock-hard erection between the two creamy mounds.

Then he used them to get off.

“Jesus,” he muttered, as he watched his dick slide between her breasts. When she stuck her tongue out, to lick the tip, he nearly came.

  Ethan had to stop.

Pulling away, he tugged her to her feet. He quickly yanked her out of her jeans.

“I want to see your chest,” she admitted. “I want to watch my raven.”

  He got the significance.

  It was hers.

  He was hers.

It was meant to be from the start of time, and it would be like that forever. He was made for her. What other woman in the world would want to see his tattoos, would be on her knees in a morgue, and would look up at him with that much adoration?

  Only her.

  And it was worth it.

“Where do you want me?” she asked.

Ethan laughed. “Where don’t I want you? I want you when you wake up beside me, when I secretly watch you at the office when you’re at your desk chewing on a pencil, and when you’re cuddling our kids. The wanting never stops.”

  That made her heart skip.

Ethan undid his shirt as she kicked off her boots to free her jeans. When she was done, Elizabeth approached him. Gently, she left kisses across the giant black raven.

Then she noticed it in the morgue lights.

  “Wait!”

He stopped moving. “What? Please don’t tell me you’ve changed your mind,” he practically begged.

  She hadn’t.

  Something had caught her eye.

“Is my name on some of the feathers?” she asked, staring up incredulously.

  “Yes.”

  “Why?” she asked.

“We are this raven. I got it in haste, you became that protector, and it signifies our life. You are my wings when I feel I can’t fly.”

“Oh, Ethan,” she said, jumping up. He carried her to the door and out into the main part of the morgue.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“I’m not wussing out. If I’m going to have sex in a morgue, I’m doing it the way it should be done.”

He hopped onto the table and laid back so his body was beneath hers. Ethan didn’t want her chilly.

  He wanted her safe.

  Protected.

  Loved.

  Cherished.

“Ride me,” he said, staring up at her.

  She did just that.

Taking Ethan’s erection in her hand, she slid him into the warmness of her body.

  They both moaned.

Then she began moving. Elizabeth held nothing back as she began rocking them to delirium.

With each slide down, Ethan moaned.

With each slide up, Elizabeth wanted that next kiss of pleasure.

  They continued.

As she moved harder and harder, the table started moving across the room. Neither stopped, too afraid to miss any of the ecstasy.

  It was heaven.

  “God!” Ethan shouted.

She crested over the top, having one hell of an orgasm. As she shouted Ethan’s name, she threw back her head.

He watched her quiver above him.

  It was a beautiful sight.

He wanted to die this way—with her cumming on his dick.

“You are still the hottest woman ever,” he admitted, running his palms over her breasts.

  “Ethan, I need you.”

He sat up and she moved off his lap. Ethan knew exactly what he craved.

Turning her around again, he bent her over the chilly metal table. He looked over her shoulder at the pebbled nipples.

  It made him throb.

“Be ready, my wife. I need you.”

  He drove himself home.

  She shouted his name.

Ethan kept driving his erection into the wetness. As he got lost in it, he was so close to the edge.

  “More,” she begged.

  He held on.

Elizabeth was shaking. When Ethan kicked her legs out so she was spread open for him, she came again.

“Last time,” he offered, trying to catch his breath. “I want us to fall together.”

She would do anything he wanted.

One hand went to her hips.

One hand circled her waist to find her clit.

Ethan gave her everything he had.

With each stroke into her body, he swore he could hear the holes in her heart healing.

“Mine,” he said, sliding into her so hard the whole table rattled.

It made him want more and more.

“Ethan,” she whispered. “Can’t,” she admitted.

He knew how close he was.

  He wanted one thing.

His hand landed on her ass and the sound reverberated through the room.

Elizabeth tumbled off the edge at the kiss of pain.

Ethan couldn’t hold on. He watched himself slide into her body, he saw the hand mark, and he exploded.

  It was bliss.

For a few seconds, they didn’t move. When he looked ahead, there was a mirror.

Elizabeth was watching him as she faced it.

“If I knew that was there, I wouldn’t have lasted as long as I did,” he admitted.

  “Ethan?”

  “What?”

  “I love you so much.”

  “I love you, too, baby.”

  “Yo
u’re really better, aren’t you?” she asked, her eyes filling with tears. “You’ve really beat that demon and come back to me.”

  Tears filled his eyes too.

“I’m back, Elizabeth, and I’m never leaving again. It’s hell without you. I can’t live without my wife.”

That was all she wanted to hear.

  They’d survive this.

She had a strong foundation once more, and this was only the beginning. They had so many more years together.

  She hoped.

That was if she could find and stop Bonnie from taking his life.

  Or Callen’s.

  Or her children’s.

  Or…

  Hers.

  Chapter Sixteen

  Washington D.C.

  Saturday Night

A mir had pulled one hell of a long day. There had been thousands of pieces of trace that had to be pulled, logged, and checked. He was exhausted, and now he had to catch a flight to some bumfuck town in the middle of nowhere.

  This was a shitty job.

  Here was the proof.

He was counting the days until he could forget about being a tech and carry a gun. While science was entertaining, there were things in his life he enjoyed more.

This was NOT one of them.

Amir knew his calling and the sooner this nightmare was over, the better.

It was getting hard to pretend he enjoyed it.

  It sucked.

Directing the team, he signaled his departure. “I’m heading out. I’ve worked the important pieces, and I have the reports ready for the boss. Don’t worry about them. If I’ve tagged them with my initials, they’re done. Move on to the next set of trace.”

  They got it.

“Oh, and keep off my station! Someone keeps getting my mouse sticky, and that’s gross!”

The team nodded and waved as Amir headed out.

They went back to work, processing everything else that the man hadn’t handled.

They had to find something for the boss.

  Anything.

  Two Hours

  Later

  Washington D.C.

When she arrived at Dulles, the excitement made her squeal. She couldn’t believe it!

Christina was back in DC, and she was about to meet with Gabriel Rothschild. It was a huge day for her.

After telling Kane she needed to go, he didn’t argue, get angry, or put up a fight. He simply kissed her on the lips, told her to be safe, and he took Milo with a smile.

It was amazing to have a supportive man in her life.

It was even more amazing to have that plus a second chance at doing what she really loved. From the time she was a child, she knew what she longed to be, and now, she was back at the helm.

  Christina had come full circle.

Heading into the building, she was met by some man she’d never seen before.

“I’m Director Rothschild’s assistant, Derek. If you’ll follow me, Miss Hart, we’ll meet with him and get you started with work.”

She waved at a guard she remembered and beamed in excitement. Christina loved coming to work every day when she worked here.

  Every day was a challenge.

  An adventure.

  She missed it so much.

“Awesome!” she said, following him into the belly of the building.

In the private elevator, it was damn hard to stand still. Christina wanted to squeal.

  “Excited?” Derek asked.

  “You could say that.”

“I hear you once worked here,” Derek offered, trying to keep up the pleasant chitchat.

“Yeah, I did. I was Ethan Blackhawk’s head tech on his team. Then I followed them to FBI West, and now I’m…”

  He looked over. “You’re what?”

  “A mom.”

He smiled at her. “Well, you have to be more than just a mom if the big man is waiting for you.”

  Yeah.

Once, she was stellar in a lab.

When the doors opened, Gabe was waiting against the wall with his smartphone. He was talking to someone, and held up a finger.

“Yes, sir. I know the media is having a field day, sir.”

  There was silence.

“No, I don’t think Elizabeth Blackhawk is in over her head. She was just handed this case, and it has moved to a third city. She’s chasing the killer with her team. We have to give her a shot, sir.”

  Silence as Gabe listened.

“Yes, sir, I’ll convey that to her. I’m sure she is already aware that you do not like her and her antics.”

  Gabe hung up.

“Well, this is getting more and more fun by the damn minute,” he said.

Christina didn’t say anything. From that conversation, she knew Elizabeth’s bacon was in the frying pan.

She had to help her friend.

“Miss Hart, welcome to the bedlam.”

She shook his hand. “Sir, you…shaved your head?” she asked.

  He laughed.

The smart ones were always the best ones to have around. They didn’t lie. They just pointed out the obvious without worries of repercussion.

She was simply stating a fact where others would pretend they saw nothing.

  He appreciated that.

“Cancer, Miss Hart, but I’m back. It actually just fell out from treatment.”

“You should get one of those rocking hair pieces…”

  He stopped her.

  He remembered this tech.

  Once started, she’d never stop.

“I’m going to cut you off. I recall how you can distract rather easily.”

  She grinned.

“Follow me into the lab, and we’ll go from there. I want to show you where you’re working.”

  She did as he asked.

Once inside, she nearly wept in joy.

Some of the techs looked up, and there were shouts of happy return and hugs.

The mother nerd had returned to their den at long last.

The way they swarmed, talking in their gibberish-like tech talk, it made him laugh.

  “I missed this place.”

  He pointed at the workstation.

  “Look familiar?”

  She sniffled. “It’s my area.”

“Well, it will be when you return. For now, it’s Amir Hayden’s. He’s being demoted to regular tech, and you’re going to be taking his place.”

She smiled. “I missed the smell of morgue.”

Uh? Yuck. Clearly, she was insane.

“Well, I didn’t have time to get you access to a whole new set of passwords and your own account,” Gabe stated. “You’ll have to work out of his. I hope that’s okay.”

  She didn’t mind.

“Just get me in, and I’ll do the rest.”

He pulled out his phone and dialed tech support. “I need to get access to another person’s desktop.”

  He listened.

  “Okay, here she is.”

Christina took the phone and listened to the password. She memorized it. “Thank you.”

  She hung up.

“Only you and Amir have that password, so don’t change it or he’ll be locked out.”

“I won’t. It’s a pretty easy password. He should know better.”

He laughed. “Okay, you can head to my house with me, and come back in the morning.”

She stared at him like he had four heads and seven eyes. “No way! I’m here to work. I’ll help them process, and before you know it…”

From her mouth to the President’s ears.

If she wanted to jump in, so be it. Christina would be safe locked behind the Hoover building’s walls.

He looked around. “Team, we keep her return on the DL. She doesn’t have her clearance yet, since it takes forty-eight hours. Am I clear?”

  They all happily nodded.

“Okay, Miss Hart. Show me what you got.”

&
nbsp; And so, she did.

Christina began digging through thousands of pieces of evidence to help Elizabeth Blackhawk find Bonnie and Lizzie.

  Before it was too late.

  Salem

Elizabeth had spent the last part of the day showing Chris around the morgue, reacquainting him with the space they were likely going to be using. She’d helped him set up.

  Get his bearings.

  Mock up his game plan.

By the time she was done, there was a headache brewing behind her eyes. The tension…

  It was palpable.

After he was set up, Elizabeth used her time to get their resources together. They made copies of Special Agent Blue Garrick’s drawing, they handed them out to the deputies, and sent them out to do their thing.

She wanted all the big places canvased.

  Grocery stores.

  Boutiques.

The café that once was her brother’s business.

She was going balls to the wall on this one, as they hunted a fugitive. The key to finding Bonnie and Lizzie in Salem was going to be looking everywhere.

They could leave no stone unturned.

When the US Marshals landed, and arrived in town, Ethan had them set up at ‘The Wayfarer’.

She almost felt sorry for them, but the facts remained—their home was packed. They had six kids, five adults, and that didn’t count the security.

Who the hell knew where they slept?

So, Ethan booked a shitload of rooms, basically everything the roach coach had available, and the whole team would be staying there.

Her only enjoyment for the day?

She knew Amir would freak out when he had to bed down in that dive. He was the prissiest of their staff.

  That amused her.

Honestly, she couldn’t wait until Christina was back.

It would take the pressure off of her, Chris, and Callen.

  Hell!

It would take the pressure off Ethan too. Everyone was on edge, waiting for Amir to jack some evidence up.

  It was bound to happen.

It was a matter of time.

After getting everything handled and heading back to their place, it was already past nine at night. To say that it was a long ass day would be an understatement.
