Bearly Falling

“Call Grayson.” His eyes began to close.

“Ok. You’re going to be ok.”

I searched his pockets until I found his cell phone. I scrolled through the numbers until I spotted the one for his older brother.

I tried to shake him, but his head rolled to the side.

I pressed the number for Grayson and prayed the clan dynast would know what to do to save my mate.

I waited in the hallway outside a set of French doors. Oliver was on the other side with Grayson and a witch. An actual witch. At least that’s what I was told.

I nervously bit my lip, waiting for someone to tell me what in the hell was going on.

Grayson’s mate walked up the stairs, holding two cups of tea.

“I brought this for you,” Sienna offered the delicate china cup and saucer.

  “I don’t think I can drink anything.”

“Why don’t we sit in the study down the hall? I promise as soon as there is news Grayson will find us.”

  I didn’t want to budge.

“I promise. He knows you’re here,” she prodded.

“All right. I guess sitting wouldn’t be the worst idea. Thank you.”

I followed her down the hall. We were at the Hawthorne estate in Promise Lake. It was built like a maze. There was room after room. All were elegant and beautiful. But it was hard to appreciate Oliver’s family home when I knew he was fighting to stay alive.

“Can you tell me anything about what’s happening in there?” I asked. “I feel like I’m drowning in all this newness.”

“I don’t know much. But I do know the coven Grayson called in to help is the coven that preserves their shifter magic. If anyone can help him, it’s this witch.” She put a hand around my shoulders and squeezed gently. “I’m new to this too. But I trust Grayson with my life. And he’s not going to let anything happen to his brother. I know that.”

I smiled weakly. “You’re human too?”

She nodded. “As human as I can possibly be while being fated to a bear shifter.” She laughed.

It did sound absurd. I had to laugh too.

“Until I see him and hear his voice I don’t know what I’m going to do.” I couldn’t drink the tea. I placed the cup and saucer on the coffee table.

Sienna glanced at me. “Why don’t I set you and Oliver up in one of the suites at the other end of the house. You can have your own wing. And while the witch is working on him you could take a shower maybe? I can bring you some clothes.”

“I don’t know. I don’t want to be that far from him. He might need me.”

“Honey, he’s going to need you. But you to have some strength and energy for him. You can stay as long as you need to while he recovers. I promise there is lots of privacy in that wing of the house. He’ll appreciate you getting things ready for him.” She eyed my clothes again.

I looked down at what I was wearing. Shit. I looked like a garbage lady. I had been picking out lingerie for my sexy night with Oliver in my bedroom when I was attacked by the pack. I had on a pair of boxer shorts that were a little big and an old T-shirt from high school. It wasn’t exactly my best look. Add to it I had sweated in them and been tied to a dirty old floor and I needed to burn these clothes. The clan dynasta was right.

I nodded agreeing with Sienna. “I think that would be good. But if anything changes, even if I’m in the shower, you’ll come get me won’t you?” I looked at her eagerly.

“Of course I will. I’ll be there faster than a bear.” She winked.

  “Ok.

“You’re going to love the Hawthorne estate. It’s the most beautiful house in Promise Lake.” I followed her through the corridors. “I have been redecorating, so I’m a little partial.”

Sienna made it sound as if we weren’t leaving for a while. Maybe that’s what we needed. A place where we could be safe. A place with family. Somewhere we could have privacy, but we weren’t isolated. I had put Oliver in so much danger. I wanted all of that to end.

The dynasta showed me the suite. “This is our room?”

Room was the wrong word. There were at least six rooms on the other side of the entrance. Two bedrooms, a living room, an office, a sitting room off the master bedroom, and the most luxurious bathroom I’d ever seen.

The master suite had a king-sized canopy bed that spiraled toward the ceiling. I walked in slow motion through the rooms. I spied the white marble tub that was three times as wide as the one I had back at the cabin.

“Why don’t you take a bath?” Sienna suggested. “It might relax you.”

“Maybe I will.” I smiled. My body hurt. Hot water might be the only thing that would cure it.

She placed my tea on the counter. “Ok. You settle in and then we can make a list of what you and Oliver need.”

I noticed the designer robes on the back of the door. Everything was already here. I realized Sienna was just trying to keep me occupied while I waited for Oliver’s prognosis.

  “Thank you.” I smiled.

“I’m glad you’re here, Savannah. Welcome to the family.”

She pulled me into a hug. “We’ll catch up more when Oliver gets some rest.”

She closed the bathroom door behind her and I heard her heels fade as she left the suite.

This was unbelievable. I started the hot water and poured a cap full of bubble bath under the stream of water. I peeled the clothes from my body and threw them straight in the trashcan. I never wanted to see that skating shirt again.

I touched one toe to the surface of the water before letting my body slip fully into its warmth.

I slid under the water, soaking my hair with the aroma of white tea. Despite how worried I was, the bath did start to work. I felt better—soothed in the same way I did when Oliver was near. And that’s when I heard his voice.

  Nineteen

  Oliver

“Don’t move.” My voice was deep and commanding.

The water glistened on her skin. She looked beautiful. Like a mermaid bathing in the moonlight.

“You’re up? Are you supposed to be up?” She twisted in the tub, but I met her at the edge before she could climb out.

  “I said don’t move.”

I drew her lips to mine. She breathed softly as I inhaled, taking my time to kiss the corners of her mouth. I sucked and bit at the edges, before my tongue plunged between her lips. I’d never needed a kiss like this one.

Savannah had brought me back to life. She had saved me.

Her eyes darted back and forth.

“What happened? What did they do? The witch? What did she say?” Her fingers traced over the scar on my side where the wolves had gauged me. “This looks so painful.”

“She just gave me a little life juice, that’s all.”

“That sounds serious, Ollie.” She looked worried. It wasn’t a good time to tell her I had sneaked out of the makeshift recovery room to find her. I was supposed to be resting.

“How are you? Did they hurt you?”

Her body looked perfect. My fingers began to massage her shoulders and her neck. I didn’t see a scratch on her.

“Everything healed so quickly. Your magic healed me.”

“I’m glad you had it.” I ran my thumb over the plumpness of her lips. I pressed the pad of my thumb to her tongue. She sucked gently.

If that witch thought I was going to rest tonight, she was crazier than I thought. There was only one kind of medicine I needed. It was this woman. Her hands. Her tongue. Her lips. She could heal me. I needed Savannah to save me.

I stood, pushing the cotton pajama pants from my limbs. I stepped one foot in the tub and then the other.

“Are you sure?” Savannah stared at me. “What if you get hurt?”

I laughed. “The only thing that’s going to hurt me is not being with you.”

I floated her toward me, docking her in my arms.

“But what if I weaken you?”

“And how are you going to do that?” I cocked my hea
d to the side. It was hard to take my eyes off her breasts. They bobbed on the surface of the water, dotted with bubbles.

She blushed. “If you—you know—your magic.”

“She gave me a good dose of magic. Don’t worry. I have plenty to share.”

Savi planted her legs on either side of my thighs.

“Just once. Ok? And then we’ll get some rest in that enormous bed out there.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Just once? Are you giving me a sex quota?”

She nodded, wrapping her hands around my neck. “It’s the only time I’ll ever do it, but I have to make sure you’re ok.”

“What are you some kind of nurse now?”

  “Maybe.” She giggled.

My finger traced a line from her collarbone to her breast. She inhaled under my touch.

“Then I guess I have to make it last all night, if it’s just once.” I gripped her hips, pulling her toward me as I jutted up, pushing my hard cock into her.

“Oh, God,” she hissed. Her head reeled back and her tits pressed forward. I took one with my teeth, nipping as it hardened in my mouth.

I pushed inside her again, keeping my rhythm slow, yet deep.

I switched to the other nipple, lashing my tongue over it. I smiled when I felt the quiver start around my cock. She was already ready to come. She held on as her body shook and vibrated. The water sloshed in the tub as she began to bounce and ride through the orgasm.

Her eyes drifted toward me. She had a smile on her face.

“That was like floating and spiraling at the same time.”

I grinned. “Good.” I winked. “I want to break in that new bed.”

She obediently climbed from the tub, dragging a towel over her body and following my instructions into the bedroom.

She walked to the side of the bed and I walked behind her, circling her body with my arms. I kissed her neck.

There is something about mates. They know what to do by instinct. What will make their alpha happy. Savi already had that instinct. She bent forward, stretching her chest over the silk coverlet. I wasn’t going to admit I didn’t have much strength left. Or that claiming her might set my recovery back another day. There was no way I would turn away from this moment. Not when she was offering herself to me. Not when I wanted our love to live on with the next generation.

My hand palmed her back. I nudged myself against her entrance. It was all I could think about. Planting my seed inside her. Filling her with cubs.

“Please, Ollie,” she begged, wiggling her hips in the air. “Please take me. I want to feel you inside me. I need you.”

I groaned as I sank my cock in her heat. She clutched at me as I thrust inside her. I rocked forward, knowing it would only be a few pumps before I spilled my magic in her depths.

“Oh fuck, Savi.” I thrust with all the strength I had left and my spine seized with the power of the orgasm. It rocketed through me into her body.

My magic flowed into her like hot lava, coating her, soothing her, giving her life.

I collapsed against her back, not sure I could make it all the way onto the bed. And I fell asleep.

  Twenty

  Savannah

We spent a week in the honeymoon suite as I liked to call it. It was difficult making sure Oliver didn’t deplete his energy every day, but each day that passed he seemed to grow stronger. I realized that first night after he got his infusion of magic, I shouldn’t have slept with him, but he was seductive and convincing.

I also wasn’t prepared for what else that night brought us.

  I was pregnant.

Oliver drank a cup of coffee and read the news on his tablet. He looked up as I walked in from the bathroom.

  “You ok?” he asked.

The morning sickness had hit me suddenly. The only thing that seemed to keep it at bay was more magic.

I nodded. I wanted to save my daily dose for tonight. I at least had to make it to lunch time.

I collapsed into the space next to his chest.

“Can you please tell your son or daughter not to make me so sick?” I whined.

“Gladly.” He slid his hand to the swell of my stomach. “Listen up in there, little cub.” He had a silly grin on his face. It was sexy and cute. “Stop giving mama bear such a hard time.” He looked at me. “Do you think that worked?”

“Absolutely not.” I laughed. I slid into his arms, pulling the tablet from him.

“I was thinking about having Charles pick me up in a little bit and flying for awhile.”

“You can’t be serious.” I sat upright.

“Dead serious. I have to replace your land with something else. I want to get started.”

I shook my head. “No way. You need to recover. You almost died.”

“I have recovered. There is nothing wrong with me. Look.” He pointed to the side of his abdomen. The only trace of the massive wound was a thread of a silver scar. It was amazing how he had healed.

I didn’t want to admit that he was right. I didn’t want to let him out of our suite. I liked living like this. It wasn’t the luxury. It was being locked away from the rest of the world, and feeling safe. Taking care of each other. Loving each other. Healing each other in a way that I didn’t know was possible.

And I was just getting used to the idea that the love of my life was a bear shifter and I was carrying his child. Inside me was a half-bear baby. It was a lot to take in. If I opened those doors and let Oliver go back to work, all this bliss would be over. The real world would invade us.

“You can come with me if you want.”

“Oh no.” I shook my head. “Flying while having morning sickness. No way.”

  “Sorry.” He winced.

“I’ll be ok. I guess I should head to the cabin or something.” I didn’t know what I was supposed to do if he wasn’t here.

“You don’t have to go to the cabin. I think Grayson is going to fly with me. Why don’t you and Sienna do something together?”

I did love my new sister-in-law. “Ok. I can check with her. And Grayson is going?” It made me feel better that he would have someone with him, even though he didn’t need it. Oliver was strong. He was healthy. And I had to face it—he was full of magic.

“I’m sure he is. He’s starting to get a little stir crazy.”

“Is that why you want to leave?” I felt a pang of hurt.

He smiled. “No. I don’t want to leave you. But I do have to do what’s best for our family. I can’t lock the world away forever.”

“Then maybe I should go to Denver today. I’ll see if Sienna wants to go. She might have some ideas for the skating rink.”

  “Really?”

  I nodded. “Yeah. Really.”

“In that case…” He carefully lifted me from his lap and walked to the bedside table. He returned with a key in his hand. “Here is the key to the rink.”

I took it, feeling the cool metal in my palm.

“Savi, what made you change your mind?”

I pressed my hand to my stomach. “I want our baby to be proud of me too. I already know he or she is going to be so proud of their father, but I want to show them I didn’t give up either. I am going to skate again.” I looked at him. “After the baby comes. I will.”

He grinned. “I can’t wait to see you on the ice.”

I looked up at him. “It’s all because of you. I thought you barreled into my life ready to destroy it. I thought you wanted to take everything from me, but it was exactly the opposite. You’ve given me everything.”

He dropped to his knees. “I love you, Savi.”

  “I love you too.”

He cupped my face with his hand. He looked at his watch. “I don’t have to meet Charles for another hour. How about a little shot of magic?” He waggled his eyebrows.

I nodded. I was suddenly breathy and every part of me wanted him. “Yes, please.”

He grinned, scooping me in his arms.

“I think we’ve passed the just
once a day rule.”

I giggled. I was done arguing with him. “I completely agree.”

He carried me to the bed where he loved me over and over. My life would never be the same. And it was exactly how I wanted it.
