I clenched my teeth. This was a really fucked up moment to be thinking about seeing her completely naked, but I couldn’t help it. All of the feelings that I had for her seven years ago were still here, and they were surfacing.

“Roberto said that he wouldn’t make Alex train today,” Lorena said, finally looking up at me.

“Yeah, but Alex still wants to. I’m going to show him a few things so that he won’t struggle so much during his training's with Roberto.”

Lorena’s expression stayed the same, but the longer she stared, the more she softened. It was so hard not to pull her into my arms and hold her again. That hug she gave me a week ago felt so amazing, and I needed more, but now wasn’t the time, and it really wasn’t the place.

“You’re still as beautiful as I remember,” Lorena said. Her pink lips made a slight smile.

I blushed. I was supposed to be the one making her blush, but instead she turned my cheeks bright red. Luckily, the sunlight wasn’t bright enough to show how rosy they were.

Lorena giggled, “You’re so cute Rose.”

I laughed, and then rested my hand on her arm, “Well, now that you’re awake, I’m going to go get som-”

“Not yet,” Lorena said. She grabbed my hand and stopped me from leaving. Even if I really wanted to leave I couldn’t. Lorena had turned all the way around, and I was left frozen in my spot.

I’m pretty sure that she noticed how hard I was staring down at her. I don’t think this image of her would ever leave my eyes now, even if I looked away.

“Wow,” I said without thinking. Her breasts were beautiful. She had dark nipples that made me think of chocolate, and for some reason cherries. They looked better than any of the dancers’ back at the club as they sat upright and were perfectly rounded. I was almost feeling self-conscious because she was a size bigger than me. I was still in the B’s, unfortunately.

Lorena looked as if she wanted to cover herself up, but then a look of confidence appeared on her face as she sat up. I didn’t know what she was going to do next and it made me so nervous that my hands shook.

“Don’t leave yet. I don’t know the next time I’ll be able to do this,” Lorena said as she ran her hand over my cheek. My eyes had now moved up to hers, only wider. I couldn’t keep my cool the way that I used to, because Lorena wasn’t this bold before. At least I didn’t remember her being bold. Even when we first started making out, she was always a little shy about it, and now she was naked, in front of me, and touching my face. At the same time.

  “Lorena...”

“Don’t ... I’ve missed you so much,” I could see the pain in her eyes, and they made me wonder what exactly she had been going through all these years. “You have no idea how much,” she leaned in and placed a kiss on my lips. I was so shocked that I barely responded, and immediately felt like an idiot.

I decided to take this moment for myself and do what I could only dream of in years. I slid my hand around her waist and leaned in to kiss her back. Her lips were so soft against mine that I felt the need to be gentle. The excitement that rose in my belly felt so familiar, and I knew that this was right. Lorena was my girl then, and she still is now.

I wanted to lay her down, but that would be taking things too far too fast, and it was still too dangerous. I didn’t want to pull away, but if I didn’t now, then we would end up going to another level.

Lorena slipped her tongue into my mouth, and then sucked on my bottom lip, and was about to start something that neither of us could finish, So I jerked away.

“We can’t,” I said, and stood up. “Not…here. Not yet.”

Lorena didn’t argue, but she did cover herself up. I guess that moment of confidence only lasted her so long. She was still the same shy girl that I remembered.

We stared at each other for a moment. Both in disbelief that we had just kissed, and neither of us knew the right thing to say.

“So, what were you going to get again?” Lorena asked. A big smile formed on her lips, and for the first time she really looked happy.

“Oh, yeah. Breakfast,” I smiled. “I was going to go get some breakfast.”

  “You should go do that.”

“That’s a great idea,” I quickly turned around and walked out of the bedroom with a smile on my face.

  Chapter 22

Marie already had breakfast ready when I arrived downstairs, and it was a big one.

“What’s the occasion?” I asked as Marie set a bowl of grits on the table.

“That damn Roberto is out for the day, that’s the occasion,” Marie answered. She walked back into the kitchen to grab a pitcher of orange juice.

“Where’s the boy? Has he awakened yet?” Marie asked, looking worried.

“Oh, yeah he’s fine ma’am. I made him go back to sleep so that he would have more energy for today, but I’m feeling like I should go and get him.”

“Oh, no. Let him sleep,” Marie waved. “You and Mrs. Bellerose can enjoy this together.”

I blushed again and couldn’t seem to break eye contact with Marie until Lorena walked in wearing a pair of light blue pajama pants and a white tank top.

“Well, thank you Marie,” Lorena said politely. She then sat down at the table in her usual spot and turned to me. “Well? You’re going to eat?” she smiled as if we just made some sort of inside joke, but everyone in the room knew what had just happened.

Marie walked away laughing to herself, and I felt even more embarrassed.

I sat down at the table next to her and we just smiled at each other. I could get used to this, in my own place, while not being undercover and working for a bad man.

“Okay, so try again. Bring your hands up like this and do another one two, but make sure that your right foot turns as you punch for more impact,” I instructed Alex.

“Okay, you got it this time,” Lorena said from one of the lawn chairs.

Alex nodded and brought his fists up. I put my hands up for him to hit and waited for him to go for it. When he made the two punches they were fast, and the second one definitely hit my hand harder this time.

  “Again,” I said.

Alex did it the second time even better.

  “Again.”

This time after he punched my hands, I did a quick slap jab towards his cheek, but he slipped to his left like I had taught him earlier in today’s lessons.

  I smiled, “That was great!”

Lorena sat up and clapped, “Yeah, I’ve been waiting to see if she would test you on that again.”

Alex slightly smiled, but I knew that he wanted to smile harder. He just looked away, still trying to put on a tough act.

I stood up and turned back to Lorena, and couldn’t understand why she had gotten so quiet until I saw Roberto standing next to her with a grin on his face.

“Now, if only you could do that during our training,” Roberto laughed. He had once again killed the mood. Roberto walked up to Alex and me, and sighed, “I know. How about you train him from now on.”

Alex’s eyes widened, and I just frowned, but I wasn’t going to turn down the offer. Alex wouldn’t have to go into that basement anymore.

  “Oh ummm-”

“This isn’t a request,” Roberto gave me a serious stare. “I want you to teach him everything you know. Alex has his first fight coming up, and you seem to be doing well with him.”

“Okay,” I said, looking down at Alex with raised eyebrows.

“I also need to speak with you in private, Sarah,” Roberto’s smile completely left his face when he looked at me this time, and a sudden fear washed over me.

“Sure,” I said following Roberto back into the house. When I looked back I saw Alex looking more worried than ever, which only made me panic more. “What’s going on?”

We walked into his office and he made his way around his desk to sit down. I just stood and waited for what he was about to say. The last thing that I wanted to hear was that he knew about Lorena and I.
The thought of him knowing that terrified me.

Roberto sighed, “Well, first off. In another week or so I will be leaving to see my father in France.”

A jolt of excitement rushed through me, but I didn’t show it. I would finally be able to snoop around without him being able to catch me, and better yet, I get to have some real alone time with Lorena.

“I’ll need you to stay here full time while I’m away to watch over my family. I’ll have Bruce here to help you watch over the house. I wanted to bring them with me, but Lorena and I aren’t really getting along right now, so I’ll let her stay here to have a bit of time away from me I guess.”

I nodded and continued to wait for some sort of bomb to be dropped on me.

Robert sighed again, “I trust you Sarah, I really do. But I’m confused as to where your mind is right now.”

  “What do you mean?”

“How is it that you’re a skilled fighter, and yet turn pale when you see fighting? You always seem so different when I have Alex being trained, almost like you’re afraid or something. It actually worries me a little.”

My heart started pounding. I didn’t know that it was that obvious that I didn’t like seeing them try to kill each other.

“And then yesterday, you looked up at me as if you wanted to do something about me disciplining my child. Care to explain yourself?”

“I...I just,” I scratched my head while trying to think of the right thing to say, but there probably wasn’t anything right to say with this guy, “I don’t know what got into me. I apologize.”

Roberto grinned, “It’s alright. I assumed that it had something to do with your past maybe?”

When I shot a surprised look at him, he laughed.

“Don’t worry, we all have our secrets. You don’t have to tell me anything. But please,” Roberto’s laughing calmed, “try to control that. I suppose that it’s because I like you, and because you’re a woman, that I didn’t hit you then and there. I was already angry, and well, I was more than tempted to teach you right from wrong. I really didn’t like that Sarah. My wife even knows better.”

I have a fully loaded gun in my waistband, and he was talking about putting his hands on me because of how I looked at him? I was standing in front of a true control freak.

“I didn’t mean to offend you. I won’t do it again,” I said. The next time I think about going after him, I’m going to pull my gun out and shoot him, then we will have to just do some serious searching for the kids.

“Good,” Roberto nodded. “So about Alex. You do well with him, and I would like you to train him for now on.”

I smiled, almost happily, “Yeah, no problem. I would love to.”

“I’m glad,” Roberto chuckled, “but don’t get too attached to the kid. Lorena made that mistake before, and well, she was never the same after…” Roberto sighed, “I just wouldn’t like to see you turn out like her. Lorena’s damn near broken.”

I clenched my teeth and fists at the same time. It was his fault that she was the way that she is.

“I won’t,” was all I could get out.

Roberto looked down at my fists and raised his eyebrows but didn’t say anything. I had a feeling that he knew something was going on with me and Lorena, but he didn’t know what exactly.

“Well, that’s all for now. You can go and do as you please. Relax, that’s mostly what I seem to be paying you for anyways,” Roberto chuckled.

I gave a slight smile and then left the room.

  ***

Training Alex had to be the most fun part of this operation. Well, the only fun part. I guess it was because I got to do a little working out with him and release some tension, that I was able to feel good about doing it.

I haven’t really been able to do much searching around the mansion, because Roberto was home almost every day to prepare for his trip back to France. He needed things to still be in perfect order while he was gone. I was light weight happy that he was so busy though, because he didn’t show his face much, and I haven’t seen any new bruises on Lorena’s wrists. I guess I could say that things were going well for now.

Alex did seem to listen to me more than he did with Roberto, so I could see why I was asked to train him. He also worked a lot harder. Today we were doing a few laps around the mansion and then working on his jabs. As we ran, he did his best to keep up with me and would sometimes even pass me up. I wasn’t doing my best, but even still, after the first three laps he was still able to keep by my side.

Lorena was in the pool and would cheer Alex on every time we passed by. She hasn’t been drinking for the last couple of days, but I assumed that was because Alex wasn’t being taken to the scariest part of the house.

“You’re doing great Alex,” I said as I continued to run. He was only a few feet behind me, but I didn’t want to get too far, so I turned around and started to run backwards. “Come on, don’t slow down. You got this!”

Alex picked up the pace and got a little closer to me. It felt safe to turn around, so that’s what I did. When I saw his little head bobbing next to me, I decided to pick up the pace myself.

“Almost done! Pick it up!” I yelled.

We both sprinted around the side of the Mansion and through the backyard.

“Stop at the pool!” I yelled.

Alex and I picked up the pace the best that we could after all the laps that we’ve ran, and sprinted all the way to the pool. Of course I ran slower than usual to keep him by my side, but nothing drastic.

Once we made it to the pool, Lorena already had two glasses of water waiting for us on the table.

“Thanks,” I said before I drank the water down.

  “Yeah, thanks,” Alex said.

We both watched each other drink our waters, which soon turned into a competition on who could finish first. This time, I didn’t go slow for the little man and gulped it all down, then slammed my cup down on the table.

“I won that one,” I said.

“Yeah, well I won the race,” Alex said.

  “What? It was a tie.”

“Was not,” Alex replied with a grin.

  “Was too,” I shot back.

“Mrs. Bellerose, tell Sarah that I was the winner,” Alex said with his eyebrows raised.

Lorena laughed as she sat down at the table, “Sarah, you lost that one. I clearly saw Alex get here first.”

  “Ha!” Alex yelled.

I couldn’t help but laugh. When Alex opened up, it always made me happy. He didn’t have to explain his feelings or anything, but at least he was acting like a normal kid.

“Alright, alright,” I said with a sigh. “You won that one, but next time I’m going to hit super speed and make you eat my dust.”

  Alex squinted, “Challenge accepted.”

Lorena laughed again, “You guys should get to the real training now.”

I sighed. Lorena had temporarily ruined the fun.

“Let’s go,” I started, “I want you to work on your jabs again.” I got down on one knee and held up my hands. “Once you get better with those, then we can start learning hooks.”

“When will we learn some wrestling? Teach me the arm bar, that way I can end the fight quickly in my first fight,” Alex said.

Lorena and I looked at each other, both concerned about Alex. His goals were to win the fights, not to escape from Bellerose. Even I had forgotten that that’s what I really wanted back then. I don’t know how long Bellerose actually had Alex, but I knew that I needed to get him away from all of this soon. Very soon.

  Chapter 23

I punched her. I hit that girl so hard that she fell into the snow. I was hoping that the girl would stay down, but she didn’t. Instead, she shot an angry look up at me and pushed herself back onto her feet. Her nose was bleeding onto her chest, and her eye was already starting to turn blue, but that didn’t stop her.

I looked around at the audience that surrounded us and was disgusted at the sight of every single one of their
faces. I had to fight for their entertainment. I had to risk my life so that they could make money on their bets.

I knew that they were all betting on me winning, and I wished that they didn’t. I was the top fighter in the U.S. At least that’s what Arnold told me. Other fighters were intimidated by me. Even the bigger ones. It was hard to believe that only a while back, I could barely do a push-up. Now I was at the top and couldn’t screw up. Not even once. Or else I’d experience more pain than this girls fist against my face. I’d have to suffer by Arnold’s hands…I really wished the bets weren’t on me.

“That’s good Rose! Now finish her off!” Arnold yelled.

The audience surrounding us cheered louder. It wasn’t as if there was a time limit on this fight, but my opponent looked like she was about to pass out. It took all her energy just to stand on her two feet.

I wanted to end this quickly. I didn’t want to hurt her anymore. So the only thing I had left to do was to hurt her so badly, that all of this would stop. I was going to fight dirty.

I punched her as hard as I could, and as soon as she left herself open for me, I grabbed her arm and hit her again.

  “I’m sorry,” I said.

She fell to her knees, but I still held her arm tightly. I made my next move before she even knew what was happening and brought my leg up high, then I slammed my foot down onto her elbow as hard as I could. The cracking of her bones made me feel sick inside, but I knew I would feel better soon because the fight was finally over.

The girl screamed out in pain while holding her arm. I didn’t feel bad about what I had done, because things could have turned out so much worse for her.

“Shut up,” I said. I didn’t have the energy to say it louder than a whisper. She was a tough fighter and had burned me out. My head started to spin, and her screams mixed in with the crowds’ cheers. Eventually all the colors around me mixed together and formed the color red. Everything was red. Blood red.
