Battle of the Heart
Page 15
Leander was frantic, and acting like the stereotypical husband-about-to-be-a-dad. Freaking out, but in a good way. He was doing everything Lacey asked, and held her hand through it all. Tristan and I stood off to the side, his arm wrapped around my waist. We were there if they needed us, but they had it in the bag. Even though we didn’t get a peaceful labor and birth of our children, like theirs, it was as if we got to experience it through them, which was a special memory.
When their little girl was born, I watched their faces grow into big, loving smiles. Leander kissed Lacey on the lips, and then the head, as she held her arms out and their baby was placed on her chest.
“Congrats, guys. She’s beautiful,” I said, and met Leander’s smile. Lacey was so enamored by their daughter that a bomb could have gone off and she wouldn’t have noticed. I knew the feeling.
“Hello Lillian Thalia, sweet baby.” Lacey said to her baby and I felt a few tears fall from my eyes.
“Is that okay?” She asked, looking up. I nodded.
“It’s perfect.”
We stayed for a little bit longer, but then wanted to give the new family time to themselves.
I grasped onto Tristan’s hand so he could take us back to our babies.
“Tristan? Where are we?” We were not being greeting by Isis and the babies; we were standing on a beach. The night air had a slight breeze, but wasn’t cool.
“ Fiji,” he purred against my ear.
“Why are we in Fiji?” I asked, but it was merely out of curiosity. We had a good babysitter, so I wasn’t worried about getting back to the babies for a few more hours.
“Because of this.” He tilted my head up by my chin and I gasped at the sight above me.
Meteors were shooting across the sky.
“A meteor shower!” I was in awe. Such beauty in the world around us. He wrapped his arms around me then started to sway our bodies together.
“I’ve shown you many places and events I had wished to share with you in our years apart. But this, moments like this, were what I missed the most. Small moments in time that seem insignificant by yourself, but with the one you love in your arms, they’re everything. These moments together last a lifetime.” I rested my head back against his shoulder and continued to watch the wonder above me, and enjoyed our moment. He had taken me to more events in my dreams, and I loved every one of them. But this, this moment took the cake. I get what he said. Just being together was what he truly missed the most, and I was glad he would never have to miss moments with me again.
“I love you,” I said as we began to dance along the oceans edge.
“Forever yours, love.”
We’d weighed our hearts against the scales of love. The decision was made to be together, and our final battle was won. So our fate was set; we were free to love eternally.
