Hard Glass

I was so close to the steps. I wanted, no, needed to intercept. But they were too far away. Even though I could hear them, they were too far away. I tried to speed up, but my feet simply wouldn’t go any faster.

No matter how hard I tried. And I was trying hard.

I could hear them arguing, though I couldn’t make out what they were saying. I was about to call out to them, but as I began to round the steps, I was stopped by a strong arm around my waist. “Mason,” Clive said. He wasn’t holding me tight but he was stopping me from moving. “What are you doing?”

  “It’s him,” I exclaimed. “It’s him.”

Mason loosened his grip. He hadn’t been hurting me, not exactly, but he was bigger and stronger than me and he was stopping me from moving.

  “Don’t,” Clive said.

I looked up at what was going on in front of me helplessly. I had to strain to hear what was being said. I could hear Dill’s threatening tone, and that was enough to worry me.

He was staring down at Jules, and then his hands were on him, pushing him back. Jules practically lost his balance, but he managed to hold on and stay on his feet by grabbing onto the front of Dill’s shirt, which Dill seemed to take as aggression.

I don’t know how I did it, but I managed to break free of Clive. His grip around me was slack, and he could have held me back if he really wanted to. I could hear him running behind me.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion—Jules being pushed back so he was falling back. The back of his head didn’t quite make contact with the ground, but it was mostly because I managed to position myself a step below him.

The momentum of the push sent us both back stumbling. Jules was slightly heavier than to me, so it was a little hard to push back and keep him on his feet, even as he tried to find his bearings. I could hear him apologizing in front of me, clearly not knowing that it had been me who caught him, and I wanted to reassure him, but everything was happening too quickly. My body had stopped him from falling entirely on his head, but he had basically swept through me and I fell on my ass on a hard step, hard enough to make me yelp.

He stopped just short of bumping into me again, still on his feet but quite unsteady. I reached out to steady him by grabbing the bottom of his legs. After a little wobbling, he looked over his shoulder and down at me, his eyes widening. “Are you okay?”

I nodded and grabbed his outstretched hand. “Fine,” I said. “I’m totally fine. Are you?”

“Yeah,” he said. “I was just—”

Dill had approached us again, but he had clearly not seen me. He put his hands on Jules again, and before my brain could even process it, I walked up to him and punched him square in the face, so hard my knuckles hurt when I did it.

I could hear screaming all around me. Then Clive and Jules had a hold of me while Brittany screamed at me, telling me that I was a psychopath. I had to stop myself from spitting at her face.

Dill had a smile on his face. If it hadn’t been for Clive and Jules telling me to calm down, I was sure I would have beaten him to a pulp. They managed to calm me down until I was walking down the stairs and hyperventilating.

“Hey,” Clive said. “It’s okay. Let’s just go calm down.”

Jules didn’t say anything. His gaze darted between me and Clive, as if he didn’t know where to look, but our fingers were touching, and things were better for it.

I didn’t know how, or why, but they were better, and that was all that mattered then.

  CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

  JULES

“Yes,” I said. “The man was assaulting me and Mason was just defending me.”

The policewoman taking my statement glared at me, but she flipped her notepad closed. “Okay,” she said. “Anything else I should know?”

“No,” I replied, looking right into her eyes. She might have had the uniform, but she didn’t scare me. My adrenaline was pumping and my heart was beating fast. All I cared about was protecting Mason, who was still shaking as he leaned against his Dad’s car. “What happened, like I said, was that a guy confused me for Mason and began to attack me. Mason might have saved my life. Then he came at me again and Mason intervened.”

“It’s true, Officer,” Mason’s dad said. “Now, if you wouldn’t mind, my son and his… friend are shaken up.”

She nodded. “We’ll be in touch,” she said. She put her notepad away into one of her many pockets and began to walk away. The moment she slipped out of view, I went to stand next to Mason.

“Hey,” I said. I touched his hand when I spoke and his skin was cold to the touch, but he was sweating.

He turned to smile at me. “Hey,” he replied, his voice shaky. “I never introduced you. This is my foster dad, Clive. Clive, this is my… my brother, Jules.”

I shook Clive’s hand. “Nice to meet you,” I said.

“Same here,” he replied, smiling warmly at me. “Only wish it were under better circumstances. Mason didn’t tell me you were coming, I would have happily given both of you a ride.”

“It was a sort of last minute thing,” I said. “I, uh, don’t really have permission to leave school.”

I wasn’t sure, but I thought Clive might have suppressed a smile. “You two clearly have a lot to talk about,” he said. “I’m going to call my wife to tell her what’s been going on while you two catch up. Then maybe we can go get some lunch and we can decide what to do after that.”

He walked away from us, not before he winked at me.

The moment he turned around, I put my head on Mason’s shoulder and took a deep breath. “You didn’t have to do that.”

“I did,” he said. “I wanted to do. If you hadn’t stopped me, I would have beaten him to a pulp.”

“I’m glad you didn’t,” I replied. “That seemed to hurt your hand.”

I grabbed it and looked at his knuckles. He exhaled from his mouth as I look around, then put my mouth to his fingers. He looked at me, his eyes watery. “I shouldn’t have done that,” he said.

“I don’t know,” I replied. “I thought it was pretty cool.”

He rolled his eyes, but he smiled. “It wasn’t cool,” he said, but he put his head on mine and took another deep breath. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“Yeah, well, I took a bus here because sneaking out of school with my car would have been so much harder,” I said. “But I wanted to be here. I wanted to come and support you.”

I moved away from him. “Are you still angry with me?”

He shook his head. “I mean,” he said. “A little. I’m more relieved than anything else.”

“I owe you an apology,” I said. “I’ve been thinking about what you said, and you were right. I wasn’t trying to use you, but I was confused and…”

“Yeah,” he said. “I get it.”

“That’s why I came today,” I said. “Not just because I owed you an apology, but because I want everything to be okay for you. Whether I’m in your life or not, I—all I want is for you to be okay, Mason.”

  He swallowed. “Seriously?”

  “Yes,” I replied. “Seriously.”

He took a deep breath. “I don’t know how we fit into each other’s lives, Jules,” he said. “And that scares me.”

“I know,” I replied. “But we can figure it out together, right?”

“Yeah,” he said. “Yeah, that sounds good.”

  CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

  MASON

Clive drove me back to school. I wanted to ask him if he was sure about adopting me after what had just happened, but he gave me a huge hug before he dropped us off at the school gates and told Jules he was always welcome to stay back at our place.

Then he signed us both back in, just to cover our asses. I smiled at him, a little teary-eyed as he walked to the car. When he had gotten in the car, Jules grabbed my hand and began running toward his dorm room.

I giggled, but he looked at me just to shush me. “We’ll get caught,” he said in a whisper.

We walked into his dorm and I closed the door behind us. “What are we doing?”

“Skipping,” he said. “You don’t want to go back to class, do you?”

“No,” I said, sitting down on his bed. “They’re just going to give him a slap on the wrist, you know.”

“Yeah,” he said, sitting down next to me. “I’m sorry about that.”

  “It’s not your fault.”

He shook his head. “Now, it kind of is,” he said. “If I hadn’t been there, none of this would’ve happened.”

“I know. But if you hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have realized how much you cared about me. And I think I really needed that today.”

“Good,” he said, then cast his gaze down. “There is actually something I need to talk to you about.”

  “What?”

“My mom. I asked her about you.”

I swallowed. I didn’t even want ask him to go on.

“I’m so angry with her. Honestly, if it wasn’t for my dad, I probably wouldn’t even talk to her again,” he said. “Do you want to know what she said?”

“Yeah,” I replied, though I wasn’t sure at all.

“She told me that she was pregnant out of wedlock and her family wasn’t happy about it,” he said. “She said she was scared. I mean, I sort of get it, my grandmother is a huge bitch. She said she didn’t know she was expecting multiples and one day, when it became clear that she wasn’t going to be able to look after both of us, she decided to keep the quiet one.”

  “Seriously?”

“Yeah,” he said. “Seriously. She said she couldn’t provide the life you needed. So I guess she chose me and I’m… I’m sorry.”

“No,” I said. “That’s not your fault.”

“It feels like my fault,” he said. “And I just want to say, you know, I don’t want to use you. Whatever you want will be what we do.”

I swallowed, looking him up and down. He was wearing his uniform, but it was disheveled. His tie was slack and his hair was sticking to his forehead.

“You know what I want,” I said, more to myself than to him. My adrenaline was still pumping from earlier. Every time I thought about what had happened, my heart would start palpitating and I would begin to feel a little shaky. “But I don’t know if we can’t.”

“Why not? It’s not like anyone else knows,” he said.

  “Your mom knows. Clive knows.”

“Yeah, neither one of them is here. Look, no matter what happens, you’re always going to be my family.”

I edged slightly closer to him. “Do you mean that?”

“Of course I mean that, Mason.”

I couldn’t stop myself. I didn’t want to stop myself. My lips were pressing against his, my breath in my throat, my hand on the back of his head. The kiss was passionate, hungry, ridiculous, far too long. It was making me weak at the knees. I was glad I was sitting down, because I could have fainted if I wasn’t.

He leaned back on the bed as I kept kissing him, with little regard to what we were. All that I cared about was that he was under me and I was kissing him, smelling him, tasting the salt on his tender skin. I moved down from his mouth to his chin, biting down on him softly, grabbing his tie and tugging it down until I had no obstruction and I began to undo his buttons. I could feel the warmth coming off his skin and as I pressed my mouth down on him, I could taste him. He groaned and I looked up at him, slightly concerned. “Do you want me to stop?”

“No,” he said. “Please don’t stop.”

I smiled at him and kept kissing him, my mouth tracing down the front of his body, moving to the hair going from his belly button to his public area. He took heaving breathes and his stomach moved up and down as I did so. I wanted to take him in my mouth right then and there, but I wanted to make him wait for it, even if I could feel my mouth watering at the thought of wrapping my lips around his beautiful cock.

I undid the buttons of his pants and moved them down a little, biting down on my lower lip as I saw the tent in his boxers. His hand was on the back of my head and he was holding me steady as I moved his boxers down his legs. I couldn’t stop myself from licking up his already tight balls, from his shaft to the head of his cock, which made him shiver under me.

I was about to wrap my mouth around his cock when I looked up at him. He was breathing hard, his mouth half-open and his cheeks red. He was so beautiful, I could have kept staring at him forever. “Can I finger you while I suck you off?” I heard myself say.

  “Yeah,” he replied. “Please.”

  “Where is your lube?”

  “Under the bed,” he said.

I got up and took a look at him. One of his knees was bent, while his other leg was outstretched, his foot flexed. He was breathing heavily and his skin was slightly reddened all over his body.

I leaned under the bed, grabbed the lube and spread it a generous amount of it on my fingers. I crawled on the bed again, dropped the lube on the quilt under me between his legs and wrapped my mouth around his hardened dick.

Our gaze met as I moved my fingers close to his hole. I stroked his cheeks at the same pace as I moved my head up and down the length of pre-cum covered cock, salty and sweet and perfect, then slowly and carefully inserted the tip of my finger into his ass.

I looked up at him, wondering if he wanted me to keep going. He nodded and I moved my finger deeper into his asshole, curling it as I tried to find prostate, all while focusing on the way his cock tasted inside my mouth.

He began to slide down my finger slightly, moaning as my tongue swirled around the underside of his cock, the line between the shaft and the head of his balls.

“Oh God,” he said, throwing his head back. “Fuck, that feels so good.”

I could feel myself practically bursting as I continued to fingerfuck him, moving my head up and down the length of his cock, trying my best to open up the back of my throat so I could take all of him. The length of his dick was impressive and even as I tried to take him all in, it was somewhat difficult to do so, especially as I tried to finger him while I kept rhythm with my mouth.

His dick throbbed inside of my me and he rocked back and forth, his ass lifted off slightly from the bed, his dick tasting amazing. I wanted all of him, and I wanted him to come inside my mouth, so as he threw his head back and began to whimper, I began to move faster and faster on his cock, my finger still working on his prostate. His body was trembling under me, his hips thrusting up, his hands gripping the quilt under him.

“I’m going to come,” he said. “I’m going to come in—”

I didn’t let him finish. I kept sucking him off, bobbing my head up and down his dick, feeling it throb inside my mouth as he groaned and moaned, his hips bucking under me. I swallowed the entirety of his load, and there was an impressive amount of come in my mouth.

He groaned under me, shaking as I removed my fingers from his ass and got on my knees. I towered over him as I took my unzipped my pants, yanked them down my legs, and grabbed my cock.

His gaze met mine. When he spoke, his voice was husky. “Come on me, Mason.”

I could feel the muscles on my legs tightening as I felt my orgasm shooting from my core through the rest of my body, to my fingertips and to the tips of my toes, tiny firework explosions all over me. I practically fell down on top of him, but managed to roll over so I was just next to him, my weight on my arm.

He turned around to look at me. “Hey,” he said, kissing me on the mouth. “That was amazing.”

I smiled at him. “Yeah,” I said. “You’re going to have to change your uniform.”

He winked at me. “This might come as a shock to you,” he said. “But I actually have a bunch of those.”

I laughed a little, then pressed my forehead against his, closing my eyes as I did so. “Jules?”

  “Yes?”

  “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” I said. “But I’m glad you’re here. I’m glad we’re together.”

  He kissed
me on the lips again, the kiss lingering for a very long time. “I’m glad we’re together too,” he said. “And I get that things are sort of up in the air right now. But…”

  “What?”

“I want this, Mason,” he said. “I want you. For the rest of my life. And if it has to be a secret, then it has to be a secret, and I can keep a secret for you.”

  I swallowed. “Forever?”

“Mason,” he said, quietly. “You’re my family and I love you. You and me? We’re together for good.”

I smiled at him, kissing his lips again. And at that point, all I could do was believe him.
