I changed out of the jeans and t-shirt that I had been wearing and put on black slacks and a black and red checkered button up shirt. I splashed on some cologne. I thought about shaving off my goatee, but I thought that that might be too much of a change and decided to leave it and put gel and hair spray in my hair, slicking it over with a comb. Once I was done, I looked at myself in the mirror and thought that I didn’t look too bad at all.
I went into the kitchen and put on my apron. It said “Kiss the Cook” on it and had the body of a woman wearing a bikini on it. It had been a gift from Jensen that had been accompanied by one of his infamous notes. It read, “Since I know that you like to look sexy for company, here you go.” It was an inside joke that he and I had shared when I decided to move onto the island. The plan had been for me to spend the entire time on the island alone. And now, here I was actually entertaining company. Funny how that worked out.
I made lemon pepper roasted chicken with roasted vegetables and potatoes. For dessert, I made a lemon merengue pie from scratch. I almost didn’t notice that Talia has walked into the kitchen until she spoke and I nearly jumped out of my skin.
“Whatcha got there?” she asked. “Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.” She clasped her hands over her mouth, her eyes wide open.
“It’s alright,” I said, trying to laugh it off. “I’m just not used to having anyone else here.” I turned to look at her and noticed that she was wearing a yellow sundress with red polka dots. It was a very simple dress, but it was something about the way that the material hugged her frame that almost made me forget about not jumping straight into bed with her. I had to fight the urge to take her into my arms, run to my bedroom, and take her right then and there. I could feel my dick rising, making a tent in my pants.
“It smells delicious in here,” she said, sniffing the air with her eyes closed. The way that she exhaled sounded so sensual. I had to shake my head to try snapping out of the trance that she was beginning to put me in.
“Thank you. And you have impeccable timing. Dinner is served.” I placed two plates on the dining room table and pulled out a chair so that she could join me. She sat gingerly on the edge of the chair, staring down at the plate in front of her. Before I could even sit, she had already began nibbling at the food on the plate in front of her.
I sat down and began picking at my plate. I wasn’t as interested in eating as I was in learning more about her.
“So, tell me more about you, Talia. I know that you like art. What other interests do you have?”
She stopped chewing and looked up at the ceiling, thinking.
“Well, let me see. I like doing anything adventurous. I love to travel and do fun things while traveling. One of my favorite things to do is snorkel. I stayed with my grandparents in Florida one summer and we spent almost every day in the water. It’s one of my fondest memories.”
“Wow, that’s pretty awesome. I love snorkeling, too. As a matter of fact, I can take you to a really nice part of the water here a little ways off from the island where you will be able to do all of the snorkeling that you want. There are so many beautiful fish down there. There are pretty much fish of all colors, so it’s almost like looking at a moving tapestry.”
“Wow, that sounds amazing!” she said, her eyes lighting up. “And let’s see. What else? Oh! I love watching cheesy movies. Like REALLY cheesy movies. The ones with the slapstick sound effects. It’s pretty stupid, but for someone reason, they amuse me.”
I laughed heartily.
“Stupid, I know,” she said, staring down at her plate and stirring it with her fork absentmindedly.
“No, I’m not making fun of you. I’m laughing because I’m the same way. In fact, I’m still waiting for them to come out with a Three Stooges movie.”
It was her turn to laugh.
“You have GOT to be kidding me,” she said. “Now, that’s too funny.”
“I have never met anyone who was honest enough to admit that they liked those silly movies, too. You’ll be happy to know that I have a vast collection of those movies to choose from, so any time you’re ready, we can pick some and watch them together.”
“That sounds pretty fantastic,” she said. “Okay, so I’ve shared a few things about me. What about you? Tell me something about you that I didn’t already read in your profile.”
I had to think about it for a minute. I pretty much had tried to cover all of my bases when I made the profile to make myself look well-rounded for anyone who might stumble across my profile.
I thought of something that I didn’t add there, though.
“I am very passionate about the environment. For a while, I backpacked through Europe going from city to city to help clean up oil spills that had happened on several coasts there. It was one of the best experiences that I had ever had. I got to meet other people who were just as passionate about the environment as I was. As a matter of fact, that was how I had found Duke. He was just a pup back then. He had fallen into a well after chasing a duck in there. The duck flew away, but poor Duke was stuck in there, yelping for all he was worth. A group of rescuers pulled out this tiny ball of fur. One guy held him up by his scruff and yelled ‘Anybody want this mutt?’ Before I had a chance to think, I was raising my hand and running toward him, my arms stretched open wide. He was wet and covered in mud, but I didn’t care. I knew that he was my puppy and I was his human. We’ve been together ever since.”
“Aw!!! That is such a sweet story! I’m an environmentalist myself. It’s funny that you should say that you backpacked through Europe because that was actually something that had been on my radar for a while. I just could never find the right time to do it because I had spent so much time working.”
“You definitely should have that experience if it’s something that interests you,” I told her.
“Yeah…”she said, a faraway gaze in her eyes. A sadness almost seemed to engulf her.
“Let’s have some pie,” I said, jumping up from the table and clapping, trying to change the subject.
“What’s for dessert?” she asked.
“Homemade lemon merengue pie.”
“Ooooo! I love it! By the way, I haven’t seen the chef, but be sure to give him my compliments. Where is he, anyway?”
“You’re looking at him,” I said, sticking out my chest proudly.
“No way,” she said, her eyes almost bulging out of her head.
“Yes, way,” I said, nodding.
She blinked a couple of times, leaned back in her chair, and folded her arms.
“I am really impressed,” she said. “So, tell me more about your life out here? How did you end up on the island?”
I hadn’t really thought of how I would answer that question. Before I knew it, I began weaving a tale for her that I didn’t even know that I was going to say before the words started tumbling out of my mouth.
“I came out here a few years ago. I was a lot like you. I was going through a lot and just needed a fresh start, a change. I saw an ad for work on the island and I responded, not thinking that anything would really come of it. The next thing I knew, I was living on this beautiful island, enjoying the sun and solitude.”
“Oh, so you’re like the groundskeeper?” she asked, trying to put it all together.
“Well…I guess you could say that…” I said, trying my best to be vague without blatantly lying. I knew that I was making her think that I was an employee on the island. It had not been my intention, but I thought that that fit better than telling her that I was strange rich guy who bought an island and decided to live on it all alone. Somehow, I thought that that would make me look desperate, especially considering the fact that I had asked her to come and live with me as my sugar baby.
“Isn’t your boss going to be angry when he finds out that you invited a stranger to live on the island? I would hate for you to lose your awesome job all because of me.”
“Don’t you worry about that,” I said, w
aving her away. “My boss is a really cool guy. He doesn’t care what I do here as long as I make sure that everything is taken care of. He literally told me that the land was mine for the taking, so to speak.”
“Okay,” she said, nodding like she was trying to decide whether or not to believe me.
“And besides, even if he didn’t like it, I don’t think that he would appreciate it if I made a lady swim off the island. It’s not like there’s another airplane anywhere nearby.”
I smiled to let her know that I was joking. She searched my eyes to see if I was serious. Once she saw that I was joking, she sighed and laughed easily.
“You are a really funny guy, Blake,” she said. “And handsome, too.”
I was a little take aback by the compliment.
“Wow. Thank you. That really means a lot coming from such a beautiful woman as yourself.”
Her pouty lips curled up into a sweet smile. I walked over to the counter where the pie had been sitting cooling and cut us each a healthy slice. I carefully placed a piece in front her and in front of me on the table. She leaned down and inhaled deeply.
“Mmmmmm,” she moaned, sticking out her tongue to lick off a corner of cream from the pie. It stuck to a corner of her mouth and she lapped it up greedily. I couldn’t move as I watched her slowly scoop up pieces of the pie, place it on her tongue, close her head, and moan with pleasure as she savory every creamy bite. I felt sweat pooling around my temples as I listened to her smack and moan over and over again. My mind kept imagining the moans of passion that she would send skyward once we started making love. I watched as her breast heaved up and down as she got more excited eating the pie. I eventually abandoned all efforts of eating my own pie and relished the chance to stare at her as she ate her pie in the most sensual nature. When she finished, I jumped up quickly.
“Let me get you another,” I said.
“Oh, no. That was more than enough,” she said.
“Okay,” I said, almost sad that I wouldn’t get the chance to see her enjoying another piece of pie.
“Why don’t we go check out your movie collection,” she said, wiping her mouth daintily with a linen napkin that was sitting beside her place at the table.
“Okay,” I said again, getting up in robotic fashion. “Follow me.”
I pushed away from the table and walked into the living room where a giant bookcase filled with movies sat.
“You were very serious about your movie collection,” she remarked.
“Oh yeah,” I said, cracking my knuckles and pretending to buff my fingernails with pride.
She turned her head sideways and started looking over the titles that lay in front of her. She reached out her hand and ran her fingers along the spines of the movies. She paused every once in a while, then keep walking. She looked over a good amount of movies and I started to get nervous, thinking maybe that my movie collection was too silly for her taste.”
“Ahhhhhhh!” she screamed, startling me yet again.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, worriedly.
“The Pest! I can’t believe that you have this movie!” She pulled the movie case from the shelf and began dancing around excitedly. I wracked my brain trying to remember what the movie was about. It was still sealed, so I knew that I had never seen that particular copy.
“You know, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that one,” I said.
She gasped like she was about to go deep sea diving.
“Then we HAVE to watch it!” I watched as she ran over to the Blu-Ray player and pushed buttons until the disc drive popped open. She shoved the DVD in and settled into the couch, patting next to her, indicating that I should join her.
I walked over where the entertainment center sat underneath the TV and opened a drawer that had the remote control inside of it. I went to the opposite side of the room and found a thick wool blanket and brought it over the couch.
Chapter 4 – Talia
Blake laughed so hard that tears came out of his eyes.
“Oh man! Who knew that I had this gem in my collection? This one is going to be a favorite, for sure!” He looked genuinely happy, like he was enjoying the movie a lot. Even in the dark, I could tell that this eyes were lit up with excitement. We had been cuddled up on the couch for the whole movie. It felt nice to be so close to him, to smell the pungently sweet aroma of his cologne.
“I’m glad that you like it,” I told him. I snuggled in closer to him, leaning my head on his shoulder. He started absentmindedly running his fingers through my hair. He couldn’t have known that that was one of my weaknesses, having someone playing in my hair. It sent electric currents through every part of my body.
I started thinking about how lucky I really was. Yes, technically, it was a “job”, but nothing about this seemed like the types of jobs that I was accustomed to. Blake was very attractive and was someone that I would spend time with whether I was paid to do so or not.
I decided not to think about the fact that I was being compensated with room, board, and space and supplies to do my art. I tried to think about it as a new friendship that I was developing. I didn’t want to see Blake as my employer. That kind of made it creepy. Instead, I wanted to see him as a friend that I’d met randomly online that was starting to be more than that.
Before I knew it, I leaned in toward him and started kissing his neck. To my surprise, he pulled away.
“Um, no, let’s…uh…let’s just give it some time, okay?”
I started to panic a little, thinking that maybe he had changed his mind. Maybe he wasn’t attracted to me. I moved away a little so that we weren’t touching at all and stared off in the distance at the TV, trying to sort through my thoughts. I could sense his body tense up. I could hear my blood roaring in my ears. I thought that my heart would pound out of my chest.
“Listen, I…” began Blake.
I put my hand up.
“No need,” I stood up and prepared to walk away. I was thoroughly embarrassed. Blake caught my hand.
“Don’t go,” he begged. There was something about the neediness in his voice that made me stop dead in my tracks.
I kicked myself for misreading the situation. I someone had the knack of reading the wrong things into situations.
My mind went back to a time back in high school when I had been invited to a party that a girl at school named Courtney had been throwing. My best friend, Shelly, had dragged me along. She told her mom that we were going to the library, so we left with our backpacks and supplies for the “project” that were supposed to be working on until late. As soon as we left the house, we ditched our backpacks in some bushes in a yard at the end of the block.
“We’ll grab them on our way back,” said Shelly. Shelly had always been adventurous. It was what we shared in common. Thinking back, though, I would venture to say that she was more adventurous than I was.
When we showed up at Courtney’s house, there were cars parked all over the lawn and loud music was blaring from the windows. Courtney’s parents had left town for the weekend and so, naturally, she used that as her opportunity to throw a raging party. She was one of the few kids in the school who had a pool in their backyard, so whenever there was a chance for a party, she was the first choice in everyone’s mind. And, of course, it was that (and her reputation as the school slut) that made her popular with just about everyone.
We walked in and saw people everywhere. There was a DJ in the middle of the living room and another outside. The music was so loud. It was hard to tell which DJ was louder, but most people weren’t even paying much attention. Couples were spread all over the house, sitting on couches, leaned against the wall, and almost everyone had a red Solo cup in their hand with some sort of liquid courage.
I stood scanning the room until my eyes fell on my crush, Ryan. Ryan was beautiful. He had sandy blonde curly hair that sat in a mess on top of his head. His blue eyes almost looked purple they were so light. His eyes always seemed to be laughing. Looking at him made my
heart skip a beat. And I had never seen him in a social setting other than this, so I was really excited.
“Look who it is,” said Shelly, nudging me playfully, nodding in the direction of where Ryan was standing. I tried to play it off as if I hadn’t noticed him, but my bright red cheeks that were getting more and more red by the minute were a dead giveaway.
Before I had a chance to say anything, Courtney popped up and told us to follow her to the basement. Shelly and I were shocked that she knew who we were let alone was speaking to us, so we just followed her.
Once we got to the basement, we saw that there were a bunch of other kids down there all sitting in a circle with a bottle in the middle of them.
“You all know the rules to Spin the Bottle. You give the bottle a good spin and whoever it lands on, you have to kiss. If you don’t, we get to decide how to punish you,” said Courtney, rubbing her hands together like an evil genius. Courtney pushed her way into the circle and motions for Shelly and I to find a place next to her.
“I’ll kick it off,” said Courtney. She gave me bottle a good spin. She spun it so hard, it seemed like it would never stop. When it finally did, it landed on a girl who was sitting across from her named Beatrice. Beatrice glanced over at Courtney shyly.
“But, it’s a girl,” yelled out someone from a dark corner of the room.
“It doesn’t matter,” came a deep, gruff voice from another corner of the room. “The rules are the rules.”
Courtney shrugged and smiled, crawling across the circle to where Beatrice was sitting looking like a deer in headlights. Without hesitation, Courtney gave her a juicy kiss on the lips. Everyone in the basement hooped and hollered. The kiss seemed to last longer than anyone expected that it would. When it was done, Beatrice looked drunk, like she had enjoyed the kiss a lot more than she thought. The look on her face was so funny, it made everyone in the basement roar with laughter. Someone started singing Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl.
Once Courtney had returned to her spot in the circle, she pointed at me.
