She watched my reaction as she pulled off her own clothes, removing her underwear this time, her pert tits breaking free from the lace as soon as she unhooked it but it was her smooth bare cunt that had my teeth sinking into my lower lip.

She moved forwards, straddling me with ease and lowering herself onto me leisurely. “Oh fucking god,” she groaned when she took the full length of me inside her.

I couldn’t speak, knowing if I opened my mouth I would lose control and explode right inside her before she’d even moved. Her hands rested on my shoulders as she used them to push herself up, her teeth nibbling my neck on each descent as her soft moans whispered around me.

“You feel so good, Adam. I never forgot how we felt together, how amazing you feel deep inside me.”

I shivered, grabbing hold of her hips to encourage her to move faster. Slipping my thumb between our bodies, I pressed it against her clit, needing her orgasm to hurry before I blew and ruined it for her. Understanding my need, she circled her hips, rubbing herself on me harder. I nipped at her nipples making her gasp and slam down brutally on me. “Shit babe,” I groaned around her flesh, not wanting to let go of the soft feel of her in my mouth. “You need to fucking come. I’m struggling here.”

She buried her face in the crook of my shoulder. “Finger fuck my ass, Adam.”

I grinned dirtily, snatching her hair in my fist to pull her head back. “You want my fingers in your arse?”

She blushed furiously but nodded. This was a new side to her. One that I definitely liked. She popped open her mouth when I brought a finger to her lips, her tongue poking out as she remained still on me, both of us just enjoying the feel of one another, the closeness and private moment only we ever shared. Her eyes held mine as she sucked my finger like a greedy little bitch, my dick throbbing as I viewed the look of depravity in her gaze.

“Fuck my arse Adam, please.” She was almost begging.

“You want my cock or my finger?”

She was panting, the dilemma evident as she grappled with shame but need. “Fuck, I need your ass,” I answered for her. Lifting her, not giving her time to think about it, she was bent over the sofa in an instant, my cock already sliding slowly into her arse as her fingers fought with one of the cushions and she clamped hold of it tightly.

Her back arched, the angle allowing me in deeper as I raked my fingers along her spine. “Shit, shit, shit,” I hissed when her tight arse strangled my cock. I barely managed four strokes before she screamed my name and snapped upright, her hands clasping together around the back of my neck as her orgasm moved through every inch of her body, her ass taking another pounding as I sped up to follow her over the edge.

We both collapsed onto the sofa, both of us panting and sweating as we fought to breathe. “Jesus bloody Christ!” I rasped. “If you think you’re ever getting away now, you have no fucking chance.”

She remained silent for a moment before she slid out from under me and turned to look at me. My heart stalled when dejection stared back at me. “I can’t be with you Adam.”

For a moment I was sure she’d said she couldn’t be with me, but I laughed, shaking my head at her wit. “Fuck Carrie, I forgot how sick your sense of humour is.”

She blinked at me and shook her head. “I’m not joking, Adam.”

“What?” I winced at the squeak in my voice.

She looked at me like I was some daft bastard. “We can’t be together. I’m the high judge for the crown court. You’re…”

“I’m what Carrie?” She flinched at the tone in my voice. I wasn’t sure if I was angrier at myself more than at her when for the first time I felt ashamed to be associated with Jake Devine. Jake had been good to me, taking me in instantly and giving me more than my family ever had. Yet here was Carrie, back in my life for no more than a few days and already had me hating the way I lived my life, shame at some of the things I had done making me hate myself more and more.

“I… you’re… bloody hell Adam, surely you understand why it would be hard for us. My reputation would be through the floor…”

“Oh well, that’s it then, can’t have your fucking reputation in tatters can we Car, eh? Not that you thought about your reputation when you whored yourself out!”

Her mouth snapped closed, the same as my eyes did when the palm of her hand slapped across my cheek. The sting couldn’t hurt as much as the regret in my soul. “Shit Carrie, I didn’t mean…”

“Yes you did,” she mumbled as she yanked on her clothes. “You always said it like it was, that’s why we fit together so well. Don’t take back anything honest Adam. That’s something we always promised ourselves. Honesty and truth before lies and remorse.”

“No,” I tried as she picked up her bag and made for the door. “Please. Just let’s talk, sort this mess out. I’m sure we can…”

“We can what?” she snapped as she spun around. “You’re willing to leave Devine for me? Because I worked hard to get where I am, Adam. I take pride in what I do. I can’t be unethical. I won’t be bent, for you or anyone!”

“I’m not asking you to be anything but mine, Carrie. Fuck who we are and what we do. We belong together, we always have.”

She shook her head, swiping at the tears that were scurrying down her face. “I thought that once. I thought we’d be together for ever, marry and have babies. But you… we lost that thirteen years ago. You know what?” Her chest was heaving as she started to hiccup with the emotions running from her hurriedly, her devastation as raw as mine. “I would have rode into hell for you Adam. I would have signed my soul to the devil to get you back. But you never came back. You stepped off that train in London and out of my life, yet now you just expect me to drop my life for you. I can’t do that. Joel deserves stability and integrity in his life. He doesn’t deserve a childhood like we had, being dragged up by the lowest of the low. I won’t do that to him. Never, no matter how much I love you!”

She slammed the door behind her, but it was her last sentence that made me drop to my knees and cry. After everything, she still loved me. We were made for each other but fate was cruel, it allowed us our time when neither of us could give in to it.

I couldn’t help but wonder how life would have been different if Cole hadn’t intervened.

He was going to pay for what he had done. Joel’s father or not. He was mine… and he was dead.

  Carrie

  2 weeks later

“Henry,” I rubbed at my temples, focussing on the garden swing through the window and reminding myself it needed a fresh coat of varnish. “You can’t remove a judge half way through a hearing, it just isn’t done.”

“I’m sorry, Carrie, I don’t have any choice.”

I scoffed, shaking my head angrily. “You mean Ted Michaelson didn’t give you a choice!”

  “Carrie, please.”

“Forget it Henry.” I slammed my phone on the side, cursing Commissioner Ted Michaelson for the millionth time since I had moved to London.

“You’re nothing if you’re not corrupt in London, Carrie.”

I spun round, gasping when Adam stood in the kitchen doorway watching me. It had been two weeks since I’d heard from him. I knew I had hurt him, but there was nothing I could do to change things. We were both so different now that I couldn’t see any other way through.

“What the hell Adam? Don’t you know how to knock?”

He shrugged arrogantly, sliding his large body into one of the kitchen chairs, his long legs barely fitting underneath. Picking up the salt pot, he spun it and caught it before it tipped and decorated the top with salt. “Go pack a bag, we’re leaving.”

I held out my hands, exasperated by his mood swings. “Just like that?”

“Yeah, babe.” He appeared angry, his eyes not catching mine as he focussed on the table. “Just like that. Don’t try telling me you have to work because I just heard different.”

“And are you going to tell me where we’re going?”
>
Finally his gaze lifted and he fixed me in his stern stare. “We’re going to visit your brother.”

His revelation had him diving out of the chair to catch me before I landed in a pile on the floor. His arms shot out and he scooped me up, holding me close to him when I couldn’t do anything but stare at him, my lungs as shocked as my mind. “What?” I choked out, looking up at him through the blur in my vision. “You found him?”

I hardly dared to listen in case he told me it was a sick joke, revenge for my cruelty before but he sucked in his lips, looking as pained and elated as I did before he nodded and a smile crept across his face. “I’ve found him. Oh yeah, I found him.”

“Oh my God,” I breathed. “Then I wasn’t wrong, he’s alive?”

“He’s alive and well. He’s in France.” His smile grew when mine formed. I started to tremble, my head whirring with his news. For thirteen years I had presumed Gabe was dead. It was like being handed a miracle from God, his change of mind a good reward for dragging myself out of hell.

“I… I… Adam, I… thank you,” I finished simply when I couldn’t find anything else to say.

He swallowed, nodding again as he trailed his thumb across the scurry of my tears. “Don’t cry Car, I hate it when you cry.” His voice was a whisper but I shook my head quickly.

“They’re happy tears Adam. I’m… fuck… I dunno…” I laughed then pulled away from him, my heart sighing at the distance once again. “I’ll be ten minutes!” I shouted to him as I took off and swiftly shoved anything I could get my hands on into my case.

He was still sat twirling the salt pot ten minutes later when I dragged my case and bag into the kitchen. “Did you book flights?” I asked as I quickly wrote a note for Emily.

“No need,” he stated when he stood and grabbed my case, pulling it behind him as he made for the door. “Jake said we can use the jet.”

I lifted my hands again and sighed, muttering under my breath. “I’m definitely in the wrong job.”

  ***

The flight was almost torturous, Adam’s angry silence nearly swallowing my happiness. I knew I had hurt him and I was surprised he’d still kept his word and looked for Gabe, but then again, Gabe had been like a brother to him, Adam’s pain at his loss had been potent as mine had.

“So,” I tried again to make conversation. “Does Gabe know we’re coming?”

Adam shook his head but smiled when our hostess walked back into the lounge area. Jake Devine’s plane was like something out of a movie, fitted out with luxurious cream leather furnishings and expensive fixtures. It even housed a small bedroom and bathroom.

Harriet sashayed over to us, her sickly smile secured on Adam. “We’re due to land within the next thirty minutes, Mr Marshall, is there anything I can get for you before we start to descend?” The way she asked the question left nothing to the imagination. I knew exactly what she was asking. So did Adam apparently when a noticed him flick a glance my way. Standing, he nodded to her then headed towards the bedroom, her swaying arse following him.

I sat frozen to the chair as I watched them both disappear into the bedroom, my mouth and eyes wide open when Adam kicked the door shut behind Harriet the Whore after she followed him through.

I didn’t like the way my gut swirled and my chest squeezed too tightly. Tears sprung in my eyes but I reached forward and snatched up another piece of fruit Harriet had laid before us when we had taken off. I closed my eyes when her loud giggle echoed around the cabin, shoving another slice of apple into my mouth and making sure I chewed it as loudly as possible.

I knew I’d told him we couldn’t ever have a relationship but shit, fucking our air hostess in the bedroom not feet behind me was a bit low.

Swearing under my breath, I snatched up a water biscuit and bit it as nosily as possible, devouring a chunk of smelly cheese that made me gag when the taste buds on my tongue hit the thin blue line running through it. Maybe the cheese was a little too much, my stomach already queasy with the thought of what was happening in the bedroom. Opening up a napkin, I spat out the cheese, rubbing my tongue across it in attempt to disguise the putrid aftertaste.

My palate was still squealing in disgust so I picked up the open bottle of champagne Adam and I hadn’t bothered to touch and poured some of it in my mouth, not stopping to taste it as I downed half the bottle in one go, deciding alcohol was my best bet at getting through the remainder of the flight.

By the time Adam and Harriet the Whore reappeared the bottle was empty and I was giggling to myself as I drew bent penises and wonky boobs on all the money I had sneaked out of Adam’s wallet. He frowned at me when he slipped into the chair beside me and buckled up ready for the descent.

“Hey,” I waved, hiccupping as I thrust the bunch of rudely decorated twenties at him. “You have a good time?” I flinched at the break in my voice but covered it up with a small burb. “Oops.”

Adam seized the bottle from me and gawped at me when he discovered it empty. “Shit Carrie, have you drunk the whole bottle?” I nodded slowly, shaking my head at the same time.

  “Yes – no. Maybe.”

  “In twenty minutes?”

I shrugged, cursing when the clip on my harness wouldn’t fit properly. “It’s bro..ken. I’m going to die if we crash Ad…am.” I panicked, yanking at the belt manically before we went into descent. “I’m going to fall upside down and bash my head on the sick bag. Shit, I don’t want to die yet. Help me!” I cried.

Sighing, Adam calmly took the two ends from me and slot them together perfectly. “Carrie, that champagne wasn’t a pound store cheap bottle, it’s £800 a bottle.”

I pursed my lips and nodded my head in reverence. “And it was gooood shit!”

He stared at me then his lips twitched and he shook his head in defeat. “I’ll remember that.”

“You should, honestly, it was really nice.” I burped again and covered my mouth with my fingers, my eyes widening. “Although it appears to be a bit bubbly for my tum.” I giggled when I let another go, a loud one that even Harriet scowled at from her sentry position at the front of the cab. “Well,” I whispered, scowling back at Harriet as I leaned into Adam. “If we do crash, I’m good with all this damn air inside me. You should hold onto me if we go down, maybe I’ll fart us down safely.”

Adam spluttered out his water that he had just drank. I smiled at him then passed out.

  Adam

I smirked when our driver pulled over for the third time so Carrie could hang her head out of the window to coat the tarmac in vomit.

She grumbled, wiping her mouth with a tissue as she clambered back inside and rested her head back against the seat. “Don’t ever let me drink champagne again, Adam,” she whined. “Seriously, I think I’m allergic to it.”

“Of course you are, babe,” I chuckled, sliding her a furtive glance. Even pale and green she was still so damn perfect, my dick and heart throbbing in sync with just one look.

Harriet was a little pissed off with me, but she’d come in useful as a wind up. I smiled to myself when the memory of Carrie’s shocked expression gave me a childish but smug piece of victory. If she thought I’d actually screw the hostess then she didn’t know me as well as we both thought, although I admitted that it had seemed pretty genuine when Harriet had giggled like a school girl.

My nerves rattled when the driver pulled onto a small but seemingly nice estate, the small cottages authentically French and chic. When he pulled up at one particular house, a large green garden to the front displaying the beauty of the cottage perfectly, Carrie appeared to stop breathing beside me. “Are we here?” she asked virtually inaudibly.

Our driver nodded at her through the mirror then exited the car to open Carrie’s door. Without thinking I grabbed her hand, both of us hyperventilating. She turned to me, paler than she was not a minute ago. “I…”

As though she sensed him, she clamped her mouth shut and turned her head slowly, a tiny choked gasp bu
rsting from her as her hand shook in mine. The door to the house opened. An older than I remembered Gabe stood with a baffled expression, looking at the Merc as he squinted to try to see who it was that had pulled up outside his home.

Without another word, Carrie fumbled with the door, her body falling through it with her impatience. I heard Gabe’s shocked cry from inside the car as Carrie stumbled across his front garden, her hands and knees on the grass more than her feet. Meeting her half way, Gabe ran towards her, his arms scooping her up before she’d even reached him properly. Their cries brought tears to my eyes as I climbed out and watched them from the verge. I couldn’t help but grin, the sight of my best friend choking me up after so, so long.

Opening his eyes, his wet gaze found me. He stood back and gulped, his sobbing turning to laughter as he walked over to me. Carrie watched with a huge smile as Gabe shook his head and pulled me into his embrace. “Well fuck me, bro.”

I held Carrie’s gaze as I hugged Gabe, her eyes giving me so much thanks that I had to close them before I choked on the emotions running through me.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Gabe asked eventually as we walked back across to Carrie. “You can’t be here.”

“Well seems as though you deserted us, we decided to come to you, bro.” He flinched, glancing at Carrie as she looked up at him expectantly for an explanation.

Gabe sighed. “I know we need to talk. I need a drink first.”

“Just coffee for Carrie,” I chuckled when she swallowed loudly. Gabe flicked her a confused look but didn’t speak as he led us through his house into a kitchen.

He handed Carrie a bottle of water and me a tiny bottle of lager. He quirked an eyebrow, “French lager, not bad but not British.”

“Then you shouldn’t have left for French soil, Gabe.”

He frowned at me. “I thought you’d have understood, Adam. Especially after you left too.”
