“Daddy!”
He looked over and saw his 7 year old daughter, Julia, running down the hall with her arms wide. He reached out and took her in his arms and lifted her up, giving her a hug.
“What's my little girl doing awake? Isn't it past your bedtime?”
“Daddy!” she said, drawn out in a whine. He put her down and looked at his wife, “Always the bad guy.”
“Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Sandrelli, you are home”. Margaret and Roman looked over and saw the babysitter walking towards them, her backpack already on her shoulders, clearly ready to go.
“I'm sorry if we were late, Laura.”
“Oh no problem, ma'am. I just have a test in the morning and really need to get some things done at home before going to sleep.”
Margaret dug into her purse and pulled out fifty dollars. “Here you go, Laura. I hope Julia wasn't a problem.”
“Oh not at all. She was great as usual.”
“Well thank you very much, Laura. We'll give you a call the next time we need you.”
“Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Sandrelli.”
As the front door closed, Roman took a few steps and reached out, locking it. Margaret smiled, and picked up Julia, and gave her a hug. “It’s about time you get to bed, young lady.”
As Roman made his way up the stairs towards their bedroom, he leaned over the railing and watched Margaret carry their daughter down the hallway to her room. He smiled to himself as he began unbuttoning his shirt, and went upstairs to wait for his wife.
