“Are you having second thoughts?” he asked.

He stroked her face as she said, “I want this to last.”

  “Do you feel guilty?”

“Yes,” she admitted. “But I still want this.”

He took her hand and said, “So do I.”

He pushed her back onto the bed as he started to unbutton his shirt. His chest was perfectly sculpted, with small amounts of hair that made her feel hungry and more lustful than ever. His six-pack was perfectly defined. She touched it, unable to stop herself. She’d never seen a more perfect, ripped body on a man before.

  “There’s no scar,” she said.

  “I don’t scar,” he said.

She grinned as she watched his cock bob, eager to enter her.

“Do you have increased stamina as well as increased healing?” she asked jokingly.

He grinned wolfishly and leapt upon her, pinning her hands to the bed. She felt safe, even though he was heavy. His cock teased her clit, rubbing against it, daring her to wait even longer.

“I could fuck you for days on end,” he whispered, planting kissed all over her neck, the tip of his cock so hard against her leg she wanted to scream. “But we don’t have time for that. Cable will be back in an hour or so.”

She grinned and gripped him hard, her fingers digging into the back of his shoulders. His cock was almost there, almost inside her. She trembled at the thought of it plunging into her private place.

He pulled a condom packet from the dresser drawer. It was raspberry flavored.

  Cable likes the exotic stuff.

He ripped open the packet and allowed her to sheathe him. She enjoyed it. Any excuse to touch his penis.

He stared into her eyes for one fleeting, beautiful moment as he thrust inside her. His fluid strokes split her open in agonizing pleasure. Everett kissed her hard. His tongue danced with hers as she sucked and teased his mouth. He sucked the sensitive spot on her neck. She bit down on his shoulder as he drove her to the brink of insanity and dragged her back.

“Oh,” she whimpered in his ears. “Pooh. Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.”

HER SOFT CURVY BODY gave into his thrusts. Her melodious voice in his head was enough to make him come. Everett fought back the urge to release so suddenly. He wanted this to last because he knew the guilt would bar him from ever pursuing Star again.

Star thrashed against the bed. She moaned her most fervent wishes against Everett’s neck, all the things she’d wanted him to do to her for years but had been too embarrassed to ask. She wanted this to last, too. She needed this to be perfect.

He leaned forward and she replaced her hands with her mouth on his nipples. Her mouth was just as deadly on his chest as it was on his cock. Everett groaned. He was desperate to shoot his load.

Switching positions, he rolled onto his back and pulled Star on top of him. Star rode him hard. She rocked her hips on his big cock in tune to the lustful moans coming from Everett. Her breasts bounced up and down as she rode him. She loved being on top, being in control. It made her radiate happiness.

Everett sucked air between his teeth as Star wined her body against his. The seduction of her beautiful figure creating shadows on the wall, coupled with the sensational feel of her body gave Everett an insatiable appetite for her. He’d been with a lot of women and Star was the amalgamation of them all. She was a true goddess.

Star raised her arms above her head and committed fully to the way his hardness felt pushing inside of her. Her mouth slightly open, she whimpered and moaned something Everett could not make out. He sucked her gorgeous breast and Star grabbed a fist full of his hair. Her moans grew louder as her speed increased. Everett sucked her breast harder. He nipped at them lightly, then a bit rougher. She seemed to loved the pleasurable pain of him biting her tender nipples, making her rock harder on his cock.

Everett threw his head back against his pillow and cried her name. His hands caressed her thighs as she threatened to drain him of any energy he had. Star leaned forward on her arms against his chest and bounced with only her hips. Everett wrapped his arms around her waist and crushed her to him. She continued to ride him hard. He felt like a wild animal, bucking and untamable.

I am a polar bear shifter and I am so good at this!

Everett couldn’t hold back any longer. He clutched the rounds of her sexy ass and pushed her down harder on his cock. Everett thrust upwards to meet Star’s intoxicating hips. She buried her face in his chest and whimpered. She tingled all over.

Everett grew silent. He was unable to make a sound as his body prepared to explode. The two rocketed toward an unforgettable climax. Star was first. Everett wasn’t far behind. Star bounced off of his cock just as he started to erupt. He tightened his grip around her waist, needing the sensation of her body closer. He shot his load inside her, filling the condom. He felt it break but he continued to thrust, shooting more of his seed, more than he’d ever released in his life.

STAR FELL BACK ONTO her back, panting. Her heart was going fast and her entire body was drenched in sweat.

“That was fucking incredible!” she shouted.

He turned to look at her, worry on his face.

  “What is it?” she asked.

He pulled the tattered, sticky condom off his cock.

“It doesn’t matter,” she said matter-of-factly. “I’m on the pill.”

He looked like was about to inquire further when she placed her hand across his mouth. She didn’t want to talk about that, not now. Now was a time for action, not words that brought back dark memories.

“Are you ready for round two?” she whispered.

“Not feeling guilty yet?” he asked.

She shook her head and grabbed his cock in her fist. It was rock hard again.

“Does that answer your question?” she asked mischievously.

  Interlude 2

  12th June 2010

Star closed the paper with a grin.

  “What is it?” Everett asked.

“I sent an anonymous letter to the paper, telling them to look into the backgrounds of the people killed by the polar bear vigilante,” she explained. “It seems they’re finally starting to broadcast the truth.”

Everett picked up the paper and read the article. He couldn’t help but smirk.

  “This is good,” he admitted.

“Don’t go getting a big ego on me,” Star admonished him.

He closed the paper just as his nieces entered the room. They were staying the night while their parents stayed at a local hotel for their honeymoon. They were delightful kids, even though they could be a handful.

“What are you looking at?” Hayley asked.

“Is it about the polar bear?” Lilly asked. “I love him.”

Star and Everett glanced at each other. He was surprised they even knew about it. They were only ten. Did they even understand?

Everett leaned down and said, “What do you mean?”

“He beats up criminals,” said Hayley proudly. “He’s like Superman, but cuddlier. I’d really like a pet polar bear.”

“You do know he just doesn’t beat them up?”

Lilly sighed. “We know that, Uncle Everett. We’re not little kids.”

“The man who got his arm bitten off last month was a very bad man,” said Hayley. “Some horrible lawyer got him off.”

The two of them went off into the back garden to play. Everett was a little confused. Should two ten-year-old girls be looking up to a polar bear that tore off the arms of criminals?

His worried look caught Star’s attention.

“They’re fine,” said Star. “Don’t let it bother you.”

“It upsets me that they’re so cynical,” he admitted. “They already know that bad people don’t get the justice they deserve.”

“There shouldn’t be a need for what you do. But there is, and they know that. It’s not cynical, they’re just seeing the world as it really is.”

  EVERETT CLOSED THE she
riff’s office door behind him. Sheriff Winden smiled and waited for him to sit down.

She dropped todays paper on her desk.

“Have you seen this?” she demanded.

He nodded. “It was Star’s doing.”

“This can’t continue forever, you know. I appreciate what you do. God knows I’ve despaired of how the law works for a long time. The amount of criminals I’ve seen walk away when they were guilty...”

A month ago the sheriff had caught him changing back into his human form while she was taking a hike in the woods. She’d put two and two together. Surprisingly, she hadn’t been too angry with him. She hadn’t even arrested him. She’d actually agreed to help keep his secret.

“Your training as a deputy will be over soon,” said the sheriff.

“You still want me?” he asked.

“I need men like you.” She smiled cunningly. “And this town needs your other side just as badly. Keep up the good work.”

  Chapter 6

  4th March 2010

“Have you been cheating on me?”

Everett opened his eyes, finding Edie in bed beside him. She was naked, her fair torso peppered with bloody bullet holes. There was a steaming hole in her forehead, leaking brain matter. She was oblivious to her wounds.

“We were never a couple,” he told her.

She shook her head. “You made love to me. That means we’re a couple.”

He tried to move but found he was tied down. He was cuffed to the bed, spread eagled and naked. Edie was rubbing baby oil onto his chest, twirling her fingers through his chest hairs.

“I wanted this for so long,” she said wistfully. “And I finally got you.”

She started massaging his skin sensuously, moving slowly down his stomach. When she reached his penis, currently flaccid, she grinned.

“I know you’re a polar bear,” she confessed. “Show me what you can be.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you,” he told her. “I was caught up in the moment. I was...Shit, what am I saying? You died. You never knew I used you. You died happy.”

“But did I? Did I know you were just using me for sex? I’m smart. My IQ is significantly bigger than yours. Surely, I must’ve known that you were using me?”

He struggled against his bonds, scared that he might change into the bear and attack her. He’d never hurt Edie. He’d never hurt anyone he cared about.

Yet I do hurt people. I hurt Star by revealing my true self to her.

Edie grabbed his penis. She squeezed and he gasped with pain.

“You’re thinking about her!” she screamed. “You’re thinking about that whore!”

He roared, feeling the bear coming out. When he saw his hands turning into paws he screamed.

EVERETT WOKE, STARTLED, as the bus came to a stop. They were back in Sylvester. The snow was thawing but it was still cold.

“Thanks,” he told the driver, stepping out onto the sidewalk.

The bus drove away, leaving him feeling disconcerted. The nightmare had been vivid, like all the ones he had of Edie.

“Are you okay?” a voice asked.

He realized he must’ve looked an idiot, standing there with his mouth agape. He smiled, trying to pretend he was perfectly happy with the world. Then he saw who it was that had spoken.

  “Aina,” he said. “Afternoon.”

She smiled awkwardly. “I know that look. You’re thinking about...about your old job. I can tell.”

“Why do you think I packed it in?”

She started to walk away when he shouted, “I understand.”

She stopped and turned to him. “I don’t need your understanding.”

“Are you sure you’re happy? We’ve always been honest with each other.”

  “I’m...happy.”

She walked away again, leaving Everett more confused than ever. He could tell when Aina lied. She was happy, certainly, but there was something more to it. She was miserable, too.

That doesn’t make sense. How can she be happy and sad at the same time?

  “Aina!” he shouted.

She stopped again and walked back. She seemed impatient and embarrassed now, though that wasn’t his intention. He needed to talk to her.

“I’ve known you for a long time and I still care about you,” he told her. “You can talk to me, as friends.”

“I needed you a long time ago!” She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. “Every time you came back I thought that would be it, that you’d stay with me. But you always went back. Your job meant more to me than I did, your so-called Japanese princess. I resented being second best. No more. Now I’m loved. Now I’m having a baby. I’m not second best now.”

  “You know I...”

The words faltered on his lips. He’d always loved Aina. Even a few days ago, he’d loved her. But after his erotic fumble with Star he knew he didn’t love Aina, not anymore. He didn’t love Star either, not yet, but he knew without a doubt now that Aina was in the past.

She smiled bitterly. “You never loved me, not really.”

“I care for you,” he insisted. “I care for you a lot.”

“And that makes me feel so much better.”

She turned and walked away again. He didn’t call her back.

VETTA OPENED THE DOOR with her perfect disgruntled look. The family knew that look. It meant she was disappointed and was going to show it through a lot of shouting.

“Where were you the other night?” she demanded.

“I forgot,” he lied. “I’m...not having much sleep.”

  She crossed her arms. “Hmm.”

She left it at that, which surprised him. He loved his sister a lot but she could be a bossy cow at times.

“Where are the girls?” he asked.

  The house was quiet.

“At school,” she said, sitting down on the couch. “And I’m bored sick without them around. I think I want another baby, just to...you know, give me purpose.”

He sat by her, noting how exhausted she looked. She should be glad for the respite. Pretty soon the girls would be teenagers and she’d be wishing she had this time back.

“What’s been going on with you lately?” she asked. “I feel we don’t talk.”

“I’ve just been into the city to look at a few things,” he said. “My next call is the sheriff’s office. I’m going to become a local deputy.”

“It’s the perfect job for you.” She eyed him suspiciously before saying, “You seem different. Is there anything you want to tell me?”

He paused. “I think I got over Aina too quickly. Does that mean I never loved her? Was I stringing her along?”

Vetta smiled politely and looked away. “I wondered when you’d realize that. It took you long enough.”

“And I’ve met someone else. Someone who...takes my breath away.”

He told her all about Star, and she listened attentively, making them both a cup of tea half way through his story. Everett felt relieved to be able to open up someone about Star, but it did bring up a few things that niggled at him.

  I keep secrets from everybody.

How would Vetta react if she knew what I really was?

“There’s something I should’ve told you a long time ago,” he said. His voice was hushed. He tried to push aside the guilt he felt at not having confided in his sister a long time ago. “I should’ve told you, but I was afraid you’d be scared of me.”

“Is this about you and Cable hooking up?” she asked.

He laughed. “The whole town really does know.”

“Only the people that care about you.”

“Anyway,” he continued nervously. His palms were starting to sweat. “I’m a polar bear shifter.”

Vetta continued to drink her tea, taking this all in calmly.

  “And?” she prompted.

He was confused. “Why are you not freaking out?”

She placed her cup of tea on the coffee table and crossed her legs. He could almo
st sense the chaos of thoughts swirling about her mind.

She said, “You were sixteen years old. I think you were freaking out about shaving for the first time. I remember Dad trying to show you how to shave but he was pretty useless at it. I knocked on your door late at night to talk. I was worried about you. I knew how sensitive you were. I heard something, some type of animal, and I opened your door. You were turning into a polar bear in your sleep.” She laughed, though it was a nervous type of laugh. “I thought I was going mad, and so I left you to it. But it wasn’t until I saw the huge paw prints in the snow in the back garden that I realized I’d actually seen what I thought I saw. I smoothed the prints over and got on with things.”

“Have you been getting rid of any evidence since then?” Everett asked, astonished his sister would do so much for him.

“I’d get rid of paw prints in the snow, and hoover up the bits of fur you left in your bed before Mom could change the sheets. I figured you’d tell me once you were comfortable being what you are.”

She looked sad. He reached out and took her hand.

“I’m sorry I never told you,” he said sincerely. “I was scared.”

“I know,” she said. “But it still hurt that you never confided in me.”

He had to make it up to her, and he knew the perfect way.

“Do you want to come up to the cabin with me and see me change?” he asked her.

She smirked. “I thought you’d never ask.”

“ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVEN’T seen him?” Star asked.

“Why do you want to find Gavin?” her mom asked suspiciously.

“I’m not going to score drugs off him if that’s what you mean,” Star snapped. “I just need to find him.”

Her mother sighed. “Keep away from him. Keep away from trouble. I don’t want you going back to old ways. You’ve come so far. Don’t ruin that.” Star was about to hang up when her mother said, “The weather’s lovely down here in Fort Lauderdale. Why don’t you come and visit your mother and I?”
