I had never had coffee, and I didn’t do the math to realize that a cup of coffee was about 4x more powerful than a can of Coke. Which was what I normally drank.
So, we get up to the farm and go down to the tank. A tank is like a pond but manmade to hold water for the animals to drink. And to stock with fish for lots of fun.
My cousins and I grabbed branches, pushed logs into a circle, and basically became fire-nerds for an evening.
If a real animal had come upon us and growled, I probably would have wet my pants.
Anyway, sometime around 10:30-11:00 PM (my normal go-to-sleep time), I secretly opened the small bottle of NoDoz and took one.
Still feeling sleepy a couple of minutes later and NOT wanting to wuss out, I took another.
I’m now hopped up on 400mg (or about 20x the amount of caffeine in a can of Coke), and two things happened.
I got substantially sick to my stomach, and I was awake to feel every damned convulsion my body chose to dish out.
It was horrible.
Once I got the stomach pain under control, I started talking faster than an auctioneer trying to sell cattle.
For, like, an hour.
I finally wound down about 1:30 in the morning and decided that staying up all night was for idiots. I found a place to crash and laid down.
I swore to myself I’d never take NoDoz again for the rest of my life. Unlike Ramy, I’ve kept that promise, and I have never wavered.
I’ve drunk a LOT of Coke in the early mornings, though.
