Time is running out for my brothers and me. We know Venom is coming back to claim what he thinks is his. He’s lost too much to give up now. And we’ve lost too much to quit and just hand everything we’re fighting for over to him. We’re fighting for our very lives here.
We have found the Triad’s gold but the rest of it? We don’t even know who it belongs to.
Then “she” finds us and we don’t know the first thing about her but she knows all about us. Especially about Slammer but he knows nothing about her at all.
Her timing couldn’t be worse, she and Venom come back at the same time, now she’ll either live or die with us and we still don’t know who she really is... but she’s mine.
Poppy
When I was four, I was told my mother died. I went to live with my grandparents and for the next fourteen years I was blamed for her death every single day. They hated me for some reason.
When I was eighteen, I found my grandparents had lied to me all these years. Someone sent me an old diary of my mom's. My mom hadn’t died when I was four, my grandparents stole me from her. They kicked her out for loving my father.

p; I knew then what I had to do. I had to find my family. Leaving behind the only family I knew was freeing somehow. I packed my bags and I left the farm where they kept me as a prisoner
I set out to find my mom.
What I found instead were two graves. My parents died a long time ago, then someone told me I still had family out there. I just had to find him.
But I came at the wrong time, all hell was breaking loose and I was about to be caught in the crossfire.
Chapter One
Poppy closed the lights off in her candy shop and locked the door behind her. It was the end of another day. Her little shop Poppy’s was in South Frisco and not only was it convenient but it was close to someone she very much wanted to call her family. She just didn’t know how he would feel about it.
It was only five p.m. and she was feeling restless tonight, so she decided to take a walk. As always, she tried to stay away but it was becoming tougher and tougher. She’d been searching for him for six years now.
At least now, she knew where he was, more importantly, she knew who he was. Even if he didn’t know her.
The closer to the compound she got the more nervous she was. She really had no reason to be here and rumor on the streets was the MC was at war with a street gang. She wasn’t sure what the fight was all about, as no one did. All she knew were the rumors and there were conflicting reports about what was actually happening.
As she got close to the house and property which really looked like an estate of some kind that was the compound, she could see the actual damage done by the battle. There was a new set of gates and the old gates were leaning against the cement block wall nearby. She frowned as she gazed at the destruction.
Looking beyond the gates, she saw several men walking around on the property. She took a few steps closer hoping to catch a glimpse of him. Then she froze. He was standing a barely few feet away from her.
She looked him over with her hearting beating hard in her chest. This was the closest she’d been to him yet and she was eager to know him. He was also her complete opposite, tall where she was short, big where she was small and he looked like a leader of men. Strong, well built, muscled where she was a little on the heavy side. But that was a hazard of being a candy maker. She always had to sample what she made.
They both had longer hair but where hers was blonde, his was dark and his skin was inked where hers was clear. She couldn’t see his steely green colored eyes from where she was standing. People said she looked like her mom but he must look like his dad.
Poppy shook her head and wished she could have known his dad. She wiped a few tears away and turned to go back the way she’d come. She had no right to be here. She began walking back toward the way she had come when pain exploded inside her head and her scream shattered the silence. She dropped to the ground and moaned as pain washed over her. Her head felt like it was splitting into two. Her hands cradled the top of her head and the pain wouldn’t stop.
Then she heard pounding footsteps and the sun was blocked by bodies surrounding her. Someone scooped her up and carried her inside the actual estate then she was laid out on a table and another man came to check out her wound.
“Honey, we need to check your head and see how bad the damage is,” a man told her gently.
“What happened to me?” she whispered. “Why does it hurt so bad?”
“You got shot,” he told her.
“But why would anyone shoot me? I’m nobody,” she gritted the words out between her teeth as a new wave of pain went through her head. She kept trying to open her eyes but the light almost blinded her.
She felt someone gently wash her face and when her skin was clean of whatever they’d seen, she tried to open her eyes again. Finally, she was able to do it and as everything came into, focus she saw a room full of men staring back at her.... she frowned as she stared back curiously then found a single pair of eyes that matched hers. Her heart was pounding in her chest then she saw him glare at her and suddenly, she wished that bullet had done what it was supposed to do.
When he looked back at her, he frowned as he studied her face and her body. He studied her from the top of her head to her feet and back again, but what shocked him the most were the shape and color of her eyes. He knew those eyes, he should, he saw them every day. In fact, every time he looked into a mirror, he saw them.
How could this unknown woman have his eyes? People always said he had his father’s eyes... Slammer frowned as he growled. “Who are you?”
The woman shrank away from his rage and she couldn’t speak. She turned her head and stared at the wall. It was clear she was afraid of him.
Spider moved around the table and knelt in front of her. When he was face to face with her he said, “Honey, we need to know your name. And what you were doing out here.”
“I was taking a walk, that’s all. I wasn’t hurting anyone and I was on the public street,” she insisted. She wouldn’t meet his eyes instead, she stared at the wall above his head. “I want to go home now.”
“Well honey, I don’t think that’s possible right now.” Spider shook his head.
“Stop calling me your honey. You don’t even know me.” She growled.
Spider just stared at her. “Then tell us who you are.”
“I told you before, I’m nobody,” she insisted.
Ivy walked over to the group and stood next to Slammer then she touched his arm and asked quietly, “Baby, what’s going on? We heard the shot and then a scream. Who is she?”
“We don’t know yet, she hasn’t told us her name. Claims to be nobody,” Slammer glowered at the woman as he spoke.
Ivy looked over at Slammer and noted his glare at the unknown woman. She turned to look at her carefully. She didn’t see anything to warrant the angry look he was giving her. Then she moved around to see her face. She met the woman’s gaze and then her own eyes widened. Ivy brought her hand up to her mouth and just stared at her.
She had seen what Slammer saw. Then she took note of the fresh blood trailing down the side of her head, Ivy frowned and looked over at Spider. “What the hell happened to her?”
“She took a bullet,” Spider replied. “Venom must be back.”
“Yeah, he is and he ain’t alone,” Texas announced as he came into the main room. “He’s got four maybe five men with him. They’re hiding in the trees on the other side of the wall.”
“Fucking hell,” Slammer seethed as he punched the wall. His huge fist hit with such a force it broke the wall. A crack ran all the way to the floor from the impact.
Ivy watched with tears in her eyes. She knew all of this had been too much for the last ten days and it was getting to her man.
The unknown woman slipped first to a chair then to the floor and curled herself into a fetal position as she covered her head as if she were preparing herself to be beaten.
Spider got to his feet and stood between her and Slammer. He wasn’t expecting any trouble with Slammer but he wanted her to know she wasn’t going to be hurt.
“This has to stop.” Slammer snarled. “I’m not going to live like this anymore. We have been buried here for too long and I’m done. Venom wants a war, well hell we’ll give him a war. It’s time for balls to the walls boys. We’re hunting this bastard down and we’ll end this.”
“Prez,” Shotgun began but stopped when Slammer snapped his head around to glare at him.
“Fuck him.” Slammer swore. “His numbers are down now, so we can face him man to man. And it is far past time to face him.” He turned to his men, “Mammoth and Carson, get on the roof with your rifles. Let’s turn the tables on this motherfucker. He’s kept us pinned down behind these walls for days. Now it’s his turn. His men are fair game but remember, he has to be alive when we turn him over to the Triad. They still want him.”
“How alive does he have to be?” Grinder wanted to know.
“Alive enough to know what’s going to happen to him. Enough to know his head is about to be separated from him
body. And if Tommy doesn’t follow through with that, I sure as hell will.” Slammer seethed. He turned to the ladies and said, “Girls, you know what to do. Stay away from the windows and keep you heads down. Hopefully this ends soon.” Then he turned around and stomped away going toward the room they called church.
Everyone standing there heard a door slam in the distance.
Shotgun winced at the sound.
Spider and the others turned to look at the new woman
She’d been peeking out from under the table. She looked white and she had fear in her eyes.
“You can come out now,” Texas told her as he stepped close and held out his hand. “He never would have hurt you. You aren’t the one he’s pissed at.”
She held out a shaky hand and allowed him to lift her up. She sat down in the chair and looked around the room. She raised a hand to her head again and when she drew it back, her fingers were coated with fresh blood. “Oh damn.” She whispered softly.
Ivy turned and called out, “Spider, she’s bleeding again.”
Spider stepped closer and got down on one knee to access the damage. The bullet had just grazed her forehead but the groove of its path was deep. Blood was still seeping from the wound, although not as freely as it had been. The red color had stained her blonde hair.
When he grabbed a small pile of gauze pads and pressed them against the wound, she hissed. “What the hell are you doing? Stop that.” She batted at his hands.
“Woman, cut it out, hold still. I’m trying to stop the bleeding.” Spider growled.
She quit at once and looked down at the floor. Her face went blank and she didn’t move.
Spider frowned and finished his work quickly. Then he stepped away from her and looked over at Ivy. “See if she’ll go with you and get cleaned up. Then she still has some questions to answer.”
Texas stared at her with sympathy in his eyes.
She looked away from him.
