“What happened the second time he caught you?” Shotgun asked.
“I happened to see him before he made contact. I grabbed my bag and ran. I always worked, so I saved my money. I made sure I had enough to live on until I could set myself up again in the new place. The third time, I had barely settled in where I was, so I came here. You see between the second and the third time he found me I went to Oakland and I saw my parent’s graves.” She looked over at Slammer. “When I saw your name listed as son on our dad’s grave, I knew I had to find you. I wasn’t planning on telling you who I was just in case he found me again but I wanted to see what kind of man you grew up to be. Mom spoke of you in her diary and that was all I knew about you.”
The men all sat and looked at her as Texas still held her in his lap.
She looked around at them and then gazed at Slammer. “I have to admit I’ve been watching you for months now. Trying to work up the courage to meet you in person. I was walking past this place the other night just to see you from afar again, when that shot hit me.”
“Well, we finally met didn’t we?” he asked her softly.
“Yeah, I guess we did. But I don’t think you were happy about it.”
“Yeah, he gets that way sometimes.” Ivy smiled as she gave him a soft slug on the arm.
Slammer didn’t know what to say. “I’m sorry for that.”
Caliber smiled as he shook his head. “You have to forgive the boy for his temper. He gets that from his dad... well, I guess it would be your dad too, wouldn’t it?” He chuckled. “Both of them were dumber than a box of rocks when it came to women. But I will tell you something, Boss did love your mom. He might not have known how to show it but he loved her and I’m willing to bet anything, she loved him right back.”
Poppy nodded. “She did love him. And she loved Slammer too.” She got up and went over to her backpack. She pulled out a notebook and carried it over to the table. Smiling, she pushed the book across the table to Slammer. “This is her diary. Read it or don’t read it. This starts the day she left your dad and it ends the day they both died. She was coming back to the MC. She was coming back to both of you...you and your dad. She was hoping you could accept her in his life and accept me too.”
Slammer stared at the book in front of him. He remembered the loss he’d felt twenty years ago when his dad died on that wayside. Back then, they hadn’t known why. Now they knew and it still didn’t make any damn sense. What would have happened if Boss never met his fate that day? Then he realized it didn’t matter. Boss might have been gone all these years but Poppy was still here. With her and Ivy, he had a family again, and this time he wasn’t going to lose it.
They all had dinner and sat around talking. The group filled Poppy in on the treasure hunting and they all laughed as Audrey rolled her eyes, saying how she was glad they’d all hung up their stupid pirate gear for biker vests.
It was late when they broke up to go to bed.
Poppy was beyond tired, only she didn’t know here she was supposed to sleep. Then Texas got to his feet and held out his hand to her. She looked up at him and just stared at him.
“Come on sweet Poppy, let’s get some sleep.”
Poppy looked over at Slammer and saw his look,
Slammer didn’t say a word. He was letting her make up her own mind. He had to face the fact that she was his little sister but also, a grown woman now.
Poppy nodded and turned back to Texas. She put her hand in his and together, they walked down the hall to his room.
Ivy put her hand on Slammer’s shoulder as if she knew he was upset.
“If he hurts my sister, I will kill him.” Slammer growled.
Ivy smiled. “I don’t think he’ll ever hurt her.”
“He’d better not. If he does, Texas won’t be a state anymore, he’ll be a dead man.”
Texas shut the door and turned to look at her. “I know you’re tired but I just want to wash the day away. Let the past go and watch it go down the drain with the bathwater.”
“Can a person actually do that?” Poppy asked. “Can it really be that simple?”
He reached for her head and held her cheeks gently between his big hands. “Yes, it can be that simple.”
She looked over at the clock and noted the time. It was after midnight. A brand new day. She turned her gaze to him and asked softly, “Can you give me something?”
“What?” he frowned.
“A kiss. All I want to start this day is a kiss. You see, today is my birthday and I want to start this next year in my life unlike I’ve started every year since my mom died. I want to start fresh and clean, with the promise of new beginning.”
Texas smiled and leaned closer. His lips covered hers with the promise of so much more to come. Passion exploded between them and they both groaned at its promise. He began walking her backwards towards the bathroom and taking off her clothes along the way.
By the time they got there, she was naked and as soon as he turned on the water, he stripped out of his clothes. He stood tall and proud in front of her and she marveled at him. He was tall and strong with lean muscle and rock hard all over. Damn, he looked really hot. Poppy couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of him. She studied his tats. “You do love Texas, I see.” She smiled.
“Yeah, I still do. Frisco has been my home for a few years, but you can’t take the Texas out of the boy.”
She bit at her lip. “Some boy.” Her gaze lowered as her eyes rounded.
He laughed as he stepped into the shower and pulled her in behind him.
The warm water soothed her as it ran over her skin. He leaned in and was kissing her again. Grabbing the soap, he began washing her back. He didn’t say anything when his fingers ran over the scars there. He didn’t need to see them to know what they meant.
Instead, he concentrated on exploring her body. Her full breasts filled and overfilled his hands and he began licking and suckling her nipples. She groaned at the feeling and opened her legs as his hand reached down to her folds. His fingers parted her lower lips and he found her clit.

You are perfect for me.” He turned her around lifted her up against the wall like she weighed nothing and sank himself deep inside her. He groaned as he went in deeper and began to push harder.
Soon, they both lost control as she threw her head back and screamed out his name as she came.
She clamped down on him and he pushed in deeper as he felt himself pour into her. He held her up, as he needed to catch his breath. He reached over to get a washcloth and cleaned her up as the water spray rinsed her off.
Finally, he shut off the water and moved away from her. He grabbed a couple of towels then helped her dry off. He took her hand and led her to the bedroom.
Crawling into bed, he pulled her in behind him. Tugging the blankets up, he tucked her head on his shoulder. “Happy birthday, sweet Poppy.” Texas kissed the top of her head.
Poppy smiled. It would be a great year after all. His heartbeat was the only thing she could hear as his warm body blocked out the rest of the world.
Suddenly, she realized it... there was no longer any fear in her heart. She had the chance for a new life now. She had a proper family who might love her as much as her mom had. He’d been right though, it all seemed to wash away, and now she could see the chance of a great beginning.

I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories, I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best.
