Even the Devil Needs Love

“Damn it, Lucifer. You’ve gone and fucked everything up!”
His eyes darkened to two black lumps of coal, crimson eclipsing his pupils, and she let out a yelp when he dragged her up against his hard frame.
“What? Were you expecting someone else?”
His words sounded surprisingly clear, and her eyes widened at the tumultuous storm brewing in his gaze. She bit her tongue. She’d be dammed if she’d admit the truth—that she’d hid from three others while she’d waited patiently for him to stumble along. But he didn’t need to know that. He was arrogant enough.
Her heart stuttered in her chest as he traced her parted lips with his finger, a small sigh escaping her when he dipped it inside her mouth. Wetness pooled between her legs, her breasts growing heavy with desire.
“Let me guess—you were waiting for Samael.”
She started to shake her head, but he settled his face at the crook of her neck, his tongue sweeping across her skin, causing a smattering of goose bumps to break out in its wake.
“Doesn’t matter who you were waiting for, because I got to you first, and you’re all mine now.”
His hands were beneath her skirts, his palms skimming across her smooth thighs. When he touched the bare skin of her buttocks, he sucked in a breath, a harsh groan spilling from his lips. “You’re such a naughty little demon, Lilith. No panties?”
She was barely conscious of him lowering her to the ground. He had purposely dragged them into the shadows, hidden within the darkness of the forest, where they would not be seen, where her cries of pleasure could not be heard.
He took his time removing her clothes, his hands shaking slightly as they roamed over her bare skin. He was probably a bit unsteady because he was drunk, she thought, although the way he held back, gently coaxing her desire, she would say he was still very much in control of himself.
She watched in rapt fascination at him removing his shirt then his breeches, her fingers finding a mind of their own as they traced the bulging muscles of his chest. She stilled at the dark arrow of hair that dipped low, her eyes snapping to his face when he sucked in a breath.
“Don’t stop.” His voice was hoarse and thick and she held his gaze, letting her hand travel lower.
“Look at him. Look at what you do to me.” He bit out and her cheeks heated as she finally let her eyes settle on the thick, engorged length of his cock. She curled her hand around him, pumping gently, watching his face twist in pleasurable agony while he stared at her through narrowed lids.
The expression on his face, the intensity of his gaze caused something deep inside her to snap and she released a low moan, a throbbing ache settling between her legs.
“You want him inside you, don’t you?” She’d never felt this way before, this need to be filled, to be claimed. When his body shifted, his hips settling between her thighs, the tip of him poised at her wet opening, a puzzle piece seemed to fall into place. It was as if they fit together.
He hooked his arms beneath her thighs, holding her open, his eyes trained on her. The tender look on his face pierced her heart. He was always so serious, so stoic, but tonight he was gentle, loving even.
“It’s going to hurt,” he whispered, dipping his head. “But only for a moment.” He took possession of her lips at the same time he took possession of her body. He swallowed up her painful cry as he tore through her flesh, stretching her, filling her completely. He was still above her, his body corded with tension.
He released her lips, his expression intense. “Are you okay?”
She drew in a breath, noticing for the first time that she was. Her body clenched around him, and he let out a lewd curse, his fingers digging into her thighs.
“Lilith,” he rasped out and began to move inside her, igniting a fire deep within her, setting off an explosion of pleasure she’d never experienced before.
Lucifer didn’t really care for the notion of heaven, after all he was The Devil, but the sound of Lilith coming on his cock was the sweetest thing he’d ever heard, her wet heat drenching him, as close to heaven as he’d ever get.
She was his. He’d known it from the moment she’d turned those golden eyes on him and smiled just before she’d set off running. She’d dared him to chase her, hunt her, although her little dare hadn’t been necessary. He’d been determined to claim her all along.
He rode her sweet body, her cunt gripping him so tightly that he fought the urge to explode in her tight, little channel. He pounded inside her on the edge of desperation, struggling to be gentle, to be tender, but her throaty moans of pleasure set his body aflame, demanding that he brand her, mark her as his.
He gripped her tighter, trying to pin her hips beneath them when she would have surged upward to thrust her pussy on his cock. She may have been inexperienced, but she was certainly no innocent. Her perfect breasts, her lush hips—she’d been made for sex, made for him. And she moved her body against him like a woman who’d been born solely to fuck, to please.
She raked her nails down his back, erupting beneath him yet again. He couldn’t hold back any longer, his control snapping. He slammed his cock deep inside her, letting her tight pussy milk him of his seed as he let out a harsh bellow of completion.
He’d known her all his life, loved her for just as long, and he’d known it would be like this between them—this undeniable explosion of passion that consumed them both. He slumped atop her, settling his face against the sweat slick skin of her throat, inhaling the fragrant scent of vanilla that clung to her. He gathered her in his arms, holding her close until they fell asleep, secure in the knowledge that Lilith was now his, and would be his forever.
Chapter Two
Lucifer stalked down the hallway, his servants abruptly turning around, or veering off on a detour when they caught a glimpse of his furious expression. He paid them no mind, his thoughts focused solely on the exasperating demon queen in his bed chambers.
He needed an heir. Right this minute? Not necessarily. It had seemed the only way he could get Lilith to even set foot back into his domain. But she was stubborn, and so he’d had to resort to underhanded methods. That soul had barely spent a second in Hell. She would probably never realise she’d even been there, and taking the soul had brought Lilith right where he wanted her—back to him.
He stormed into the dining hall, slumping down in his seat at the head of the table. She may be back, but she wasn’t happy to be there, although he really hadn’t really expected her to be. He’d hoped though. He’d hoped she would feel some of what he was feeling. He shoved a hand through his hair, a tortured sigh falling from his lips. He missed her, his home a barren shell with her gone. His days and nights were lonely, and no matter how many women he fucked, his bed was always cold.
He stilled when he sensed another presence in the darkened room, his body cording with tension until his gaze landed on the shadowy figure leaning against the wall.
“It took you long enough to notice me standing here.” His cousin shifted to his full height, his lips curling into an arrogant smile as he sauntered over to the table and sat down, propping his boot clad feet up. “Let me guess. Baby-making isn’t going so well.”
“What are you doing here, Samael?”
They may have been cousins, but they could have been brothers, their features were so similar, their mannerisms almost identical. So when Samael arched his brow and grinned, a glower spread across Lucifer’s face.
“Came to visit my favourite cousin and his wife. So how are things?”
Came for a visit? Lucifer snorted. Yeah right, but he’d play along. “Things?” He stroked his chin. “Things with me are fine. Now my wife? Well, besides being difficult as she always is….” He shrugged, leaving it at that. Samael knew how feisty Lilith was and truly just how difficult she could be at times, so there was no need for explanation.
“Well, you knew that when you married her. Nice to know some things still haven’t changed,” he said with a grin but when Lucifer didn’t
respond, Samael leant back in his high backed chair, clasping his hands behind his head. “Why don’t you just tell her that you missed her,” he offered slowly.
Lucifer would never know how Samael read him so well, but his cousin had always been very intuitive about him. Over time, he’d simply grown accustomed to Samael’s probing insight. “I did.” He sighed. “But she didn’t say a word.”
“Well then if she won’t listen, tell her that you love her.” Samael continued. “It’s only the truth.”
Lucifer frowned. He couldn’t tell her that. It was enough he’d admitted that he’d even missed her. And what good had that done? She’d been silent and cold, as if his words had fallen on deaf ears.
“Of course you won’t tell her you love her.” His cousin said with a sigh when Lucifer said nothing. “That’s your problem. The both of you are stubborn. Married two years and never once said you loved each other—”
“Three. We’ve been married three years,” he said, answering the question in Samael’s eyes.
“Yes, but this last one doesn’t count since you’ve been separated.”
Lucifer leant back in his chair, a scowl on his face as Samael helped himself to the dinner his cook had laid out for him.
“Is there a reason why you’re here, again? The real reason.”
“Like I said, I’m just here visiting.” He shrugged in between bites. “But Medusa did send me. Your mother seems to think you’re going to fuck this up again.”
Lucifer’s frown deepened. Of course his mother had sent Samael. Come to think of it, Medusa was behind this entire fiasco. Her ramblings of needing a grandchild were what had propelled him to seek his wife out in the first place. She’d made it clear, he needed a legitimate heir, and since he already had a wife…
Medusa thought herself clever with her antics. She knew her son well, knew he was lonely—the shadows beneath his eyes caused more by his unhappiness than from lack of sleep. She was trying to help him reconcile with his wife, but what she failed to realise was that he hadn’t been the one to abandon his vows. Lilith had left him. And she probably would have stayed away forever had he not manipulated her return.
“I know you and my mother are trying to help, but there really is no point. The simple truth is that my wife doesn’t love me. I don’t think she ever did. And without that, our marriage doesn’t stand a chance.” To say the words twisted his belly into knots. But they were true. Even Lilith had said it herself. She would have been happier with someone else, anyone else besides him.
“That’s bullshit.”
His gaze snapped to Samael, the vehemence with which his cousin said the words, momentarily taking him aback. “What?”
“You heard me. That’s bullshit if you think Lilith doesn’t love you, and you know it. You can fool yourself into thinking you had the power to drag her back here, but you’d be just that—a fool. Lilith is the Queen of the Damned, and as powerful as you. If she didn’t want to come back, there would have been nothing you could have done to force her. Have you ever wondered why she never divorced you, why even now she lies twisted in your bed sheets?”
Samael’s expression turned smug. “You need to ask yourself, why after all this time she welcomed you so eagerly back into her arms? And don’t try to deny it. I can smell the scent of her and sex all over you.”
Lucifer quirked his brow, biting back a small grin at the image of Lilith spread out before him as he devoured her pussy. He had no doubt Samael could smell her all over him. His cousin had probably caught her scent the moment Lucifer had walked into the dining hall.
“Lilith is here because she loves you, because she wants to save your marriage as much as you do. But you don’t have to listen to me, just ask her. Ask her why she came back. I think you’d be surprised by her answer.”
Lucifer stared at his cousin, his brow wrinkled. Samael seemed so sure of Lilith’s feelings for him, but he hadn’t seen her earlier, hadn’t seen the derision on her face when she’d barged into his chambers. If she’d ever loved him, she didn’t now. And no matter what Samael said, the only reason why Lilith had come back was because he’d given her no choice.

Despite myth and rumour, there was a day and night in Hell, and by the time Lucifer pushed inside his chambers, the moon was just climbing into the sky.
He saw her instantly, stretched out on his bed, her naked limbs twisted in the scarlet sheets. Silver light streamed through his window, a breeze rustling the curtains. The moonlight caressed her sienna skin like a lover’s hand, her silky cloud of raven hair shimmering beneath the iridescent light.
He stood there, transfixed by the sight of her. It felt right to see her in his bed again. She belonged there, when no other woman had. He’d never been able to spend the night with any other woman but her, his mind and body restless except when she was next to him.
Lucifer slipped beneath the sheets, tensing when she rolled over in her sleep and instinctively settled into his arms. He embraced her, even as his throat tightened. He closed his eyes, listening to the gentle thud of her heartbeat and her muffled snores. For the first time since she’d left him a year ago, he slept through the entire night, his mind and body at peace.

Lilith’s eyelids fluttered open, the blinding rays of sunlight filtering through the window to bathe the room in a burnished glow. She yawned, stretching lazily, but stilled at the warmth curling in her belly. She moaned, her back arching even as she reached for him.
The room may have been unfamiliar, and she may have awoken disoriented, but only one person could awaken her passion in an instant with a single caress.
“Luke.” She gasped, the feathered touch of his fingertips against her inner thighs setting off a firestorm within her.
His lips were soft and warm against her skin, the butterfly kisses he rained along her legs causing her pussy to fill with wet heat. When he settled his mouth against her core, she arched off the bed, crying out as her hands tangled in his hair.
He held her open, spread wide before him, his tongue probing deep inside her moist centre. Her breath caught in her chest, her nipples budding tight as she twisted in the sheets, grinding her mound against his face. He brought her to the brink, over and over again, taunting her, teasing her, loving her with his mouth but never allowing her to come, his lips pulling away just before she peaked.
“Luke,” she pleaded. “P—please.” Her voice shook, the sound needy to her own ears.
He lifted, his eyes twinkling, and for the first time, in a long time, he grinned. “Please what?”
She gasped as she cupped his face, the tiny dimple that she rarely saw now winking at her. It was adorable, and it softened the harsh features of her brooding husband.
“What is it?” His forehead wrinkled when he frowned, and the dimple disappeared instantly.
“I haven’t seen you grin in a long time. It was—” she searched for the right word, “cute.”
His brows snapped together. “Cute?”
She nudged his head, her own lips curving into a small smile. “Yes, cute. Now get back to what you were doing and finish what you started.”
Lucifer frowned down into the face of his smiling wife. She was teasing him. It had been so long since she’d teased him, probably as long as it had been since he’d grinned, or smiled, or showed any emotion akin to laughter.
She’d always hated that about him, his seriousness, his brooding nature, his stoic personality. It was only when he was with her that he ever truly let go and allowed himself to live in the moment and just feel, but it was difficult. She didn’t understand that he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was the balance to good, the tormenter of all that was evil. He saw every sin of every soul that entered his kingdom, and over time it had begun to wear on him. If he was serious all the time, it was because what he did—binding wicked souls to Hell forever left little to smile about.
“Stop it!”
Lilith’
s harsh command drew his attention to her face.
“A moment ago you were smiling, but now you’ve slipped into your dark thoughts. And that frown that seems permanently fixed on your face is back.” She sighed, and it was weary, as if she was at the end of her rope. He’d seen her like this once before, right before she’d left him. “J—just make love to me. For once just lose yourself in the moment and make love to me.”
There was a wealth of feeling behind her words, and he sensed her frustration. In that instant he knew his next actions would seal his fate. He was driven by so many questions, the need to know why’d she’d come back, why she still desired his touch when he knew she despised him. So many questions and doubts swirled inside him, but he knew if he voiced them, he would shatter this moment between them, and he would lose her. She would withdraw from him and hide deep within that place where he couldn’t touch her—not her emotions, and not her heart.
Their eyes met and something inside him shifted at what she revealed in her gaze. He began to understand then why she’d left him. He’d always been consumed by his duty, but he’d eventually lost himself to it, and forgotten about his wife, about Lilith and her needs. He’d forgotten how to be her husband.
He shoved his hand into her hair, drawing her to him as he dipped his head to capture her lips. He was determined to prove to her that although he’d neglected her, he would never do it again. He knew exactly how to please her, how to give her what she needed, what she wanted.
He shuddered against her at the first brush of her mouth against his, and she openly yielded beneath him, her lips parting to allow him access. Sweeping inside her mouth, his tongue duelled with hers, tasting her. She gave herself completely to him, her arms encircling his back, her thighs falling apart to welcome him between them as her ankles clasped around his hips.
