“Have you considered having a ménage with Kona and me?”

Startled, Piers stood, unable to hide his response to her. He turned and walked over to the pool, diving in. Tara laughed, unable to hide the pleasure she felt from taking control away from him. He obviously couldn’t even act like she didn’t stir him up.

After swimming a few laps, he climbed out of the pool and walked back to the house, closing the patio door with a snap.

“I think we’re getting to him,” Kona said quietly.

Tara was confused. How could kissing Kona be so different from the mind-bending tongue meld with Piers?

“Kiss me again, Kona. I think he might still be watching.” He was nowhere in sight, but she felt his eyes on her regardless as Kona captured her lips once again. She brought out her acting skills and threw herself into it. Piers could damn well try and ignore them, but Tara made sure to put on a good show. Kissing Kona was pleasurable, but not as sweet as Piers’s lips on hers. He stirred her so much that she was concerned.

How do I keep aloof and romance-free if he’s such a great kisser?

The problem with Kona was that he didn’t curl her toes, though she was mildly attracted to him. What a difference. That only proved to her that she’d need to be on her guard. For a moment, she lost herself in Kona’s arms, pleased that she felt a little flip in her stomach when he tugged her closer. She felt turned on, but was it because Kona was so thorough or because Piers was at the gate first?

Damn! That man is going to be trouble when it comes to keeping my heart out of it.

Moki came to the patio door and smiled at Tara. “Dinner will be served early tonight. I have to go help a neighbor who’s in labor. I hope you don’t mind?”

Glad to have anything distract her, Tara smiled at the woman.

“I’ll take your cooking anytime of the day, my friend. Thank you.”

It was time to get changed for dinner. Kona showed signs that he wanted more from her, but she pushed him away gently.

“Let’s get ready for dinner and have a few drinks. I plan on proposing our ménage to him at the table.”

“Sure thing. I am staying for the night in my own room. I hope you’ll join me there, even if he refuses.”

Tara laughed. “He won’t. I believe we’ve offered him a treat that he can’t refuse. Plan on getting very little sleep tonight, Kona. I know Piers won’t if I have anything to do with it.”

“Just let me know when to start your plan. I have a feeling that Piers isn’t as aloof as he acts. I’ll see you in a few minutes.”

After another sweet kiss, he left her at the pool. It was time to move onto stage two of her seduction.

Once he’d showered and spoken to Moki about dinner, Piers went looking for Tara. She was in for a surprise and he wanted to watch her reaction. He rubbed his palms together and went out to the pool. As usual, she was swimming…alone.

“How many times do I have to tell you not to swim by yourself? What if you drowned?”

She turned over on her back and grinned at him. “I’m an excellent swimmer. Besides, you won’t get rid of me that easily. Was there something you wanted?”

The way she looked at him reminded him of his desire for her, and he had to focus hard to keep from responding. Damned hormones!

“Dinner is ready. You’d best get dressed and meet us in the dining room.”

  “Us?”

“Yes, we have company. Kona is already in the dining room.”

“Okay, I’ll make it fast. Thanks, Piers.”

She won’t thank me when she finds out who’s coming for dinner.

A streak of mischievousness trickled up his spine. He turned and walked into the house, humming softly to himself. She was going to be so pissed at him.

Dressed in a sexy sarong, Tara studied her mirror image and frowned. Would this outfit turn him on as well? She placed a small orchid in her hair and did one last check of her makeup before heading down the hall to the dinner room. Piers wouldn’t have a chance of turning her down this time if she had her way.

When she opened the door, Piers was sitting at the table with Kona and across from him was the blonde from class. A wave of anger almost made her lose her temper, but she held on tightly to her vision of having him in her bed.

“Well, well, if it isn’t your new girlfriend. I thought you said you didn’t mix pleasure with business, Piers?”

His long, slow smile riled her even more. Plastering a grin on her face, she sat down and poured a glass of red wine then sipped it. Kona sat beside her, his eyes asking a question. Tara nodded that the plan was still on.

“I don’t. Selina is here for dinner and some private instruction.”

“That’s right, dear. Strictly business.” Selina placed her hand over Piers’s and gave Tara a cat-eyed look. The lines were drawn. It was every woman for herself.

  * * * *

Dinner was a nightmare for Tara as she struggled to keep her anger from showing. At every opportunity, Selina made comments that cut to the quick in regards to Tara, who fought not to return the favor.

“Piers, would you like me to replace your model tomorrow? I think it would be a lot of fun. I’m sure we could spend some time tonight practicing together,” Selina said, her gaze sliding over to meet Tara’s.

In turn, Tara looked over at Kona. “I’m happy that you’re staying overnight. Perhaps we could take a swim before bedtime.”

He leaned forward and picked up her hand, kissing it on the palm.

“I’ll swim with you anywhere. Maybe tomorrow, after class we can go to the mainland and swim with the dolphins.”

A slow smile lifted the corners of his sensuous mouth. Tara lifted their hands to her mouth and bit his thumb gently.

“It would be my pleasure, darling.”

“Dolphins? That sounds like fun. Piers, we can go, too. What a great day we could have together.” Selina shot a look of promise at him. The ample display of cleavage caught his eyes, which made Tara squirm with jealousy. “What do you think, Kona? The thought of you two strong, handsome men spending the day with me sounds delightful.”

He looked over at Piers. “I suppose we could manage, right, Tara?”

A lump of ire lodged in Tara’s throat at the thought of spending even a few moments of the day with the witch, but she played the game well.

“Kona, it would be a long day. I’m not so sure Selina could keep up with us,” she said with sickening sweetness.

Without addressing Tara directly, Selina looked over at Piers, who seemed to be enjoying himself with the catfight going on.

“I think it would be a terrific idea, Selina. I’ll pick you up at your room after class. We can make a day of it and have dinner at Club Lola.”

Selina gave Tara a sly look. “Then it’s settled. I’m so excited. After dinner, Piers, would you like to take me for a walk on the beach?”

For a moment, Tara wasn’t able to talk. The woman was pushing every button.

“That sounds great,” Kona said. “It will give Tara and I a chance to be alone.”

For a moment, Tara was shocked. The idea was to make Piers jealous enough to object, but when he smiled and shot a glance at her, she realised that he was the one who had all the cards on the table.

“I think that would be great, Selina, but we have class tomorrow. Perhaps we’ll do it in the evening when the moon is full.”

Selina glanced at Tara and practically purred when she said, “That sounds delicious, Piers. I can hardly wait.”

It was Tara’s turn to push buttons. “Kona, I would love to have you all to myself.”

Piers frowned slightly, then caught himself, smiling instead.

“I’ll check with Moki. I think she has a special dessert for us.”

He stood and left the table, entering the kitchen. Tara followed.

“Pardon me, too,” she murmured, eyes on Selina. “I’ll see if I can help.”
<
br />   Once the door closed behind her, she found that Piers was sampling the trifle that Moki had made. It had all Hawaiian fruits and real whipped cream. She walked over to him and leaned against the island, looking up at him. Again she marvelled at how handsome he was, wanting to trail her fingers down his chest to reveal the hard muscles beneath his shirt. Instead, she cleared her throat, drawing his gaze.

“You hooked up with that sleazy woman fast enough. I hope she’s practiced her Kegels. You wouldn’t want to be disappointed in her lack of ability in bed.”

Piers laughed. “Any disability a woman has is easily remedied by me.”

  “Aren’t you full of yourself?”

  “Just telling the truth.”

“Ha! I’d have to see it to believe it.”

His eyes bored into hers, dark brown and filled with passion and anger.

“You could join us in bed.”

She shook her head. “Not on your life. I’d take Kona to bed rather than her. She makes me sick to my stomach with all the innuendos and fake sex talk. I’ll bet she doesn’t know a thing about pleasing a man. Other than her big boobs, she has nothing going for her.”

“Careful about betting, Tara, or you might lose your shirt.”

“Really,” she shot at him, “you think you’re so hot and sexy, prove it.”

He pulled her close with a strong arm around her waist and stared into her eyes, passion bright in his. For a moment he stopped and dropped his gaze to her lips, then seized them, pouring all his pain and fury into a kiss that took her breath away. She never wanted him to stop, so lost was she in his arms. His tongue teased and pulled at hers, begging her to welcome it home. Tara hadn’t kissed like that before and stopped him, hands on his chest.

“What’s the matter?” he asked, curious.

“I—well, I’ve never French kissed before. I’m afraid you’ll have to teach me how.”

Startled, Piers studied her for a long moment. After a long, breathless minute, he pulled away, letting her go. Tara almost fell as she stepped back against the island. Moki chose that moment to reenter the kitchen, chatting away like she’d been privy to their time together.

“We really should serve the dessert, Piers. Tara, would you mind holding the door while we carry it into the dining room?”

She had to shake her head to clear away the stunned surprise she felt at his letting her go. The kiss had curled her toes and scared her into fleeing.

  “I’ll get the door.”

Piers picked up two of the dishes and followed. When she opened the door, she found that it was empty. Kona and Selina were gone.

  Chapter 7:

  Reality Strikes

Tara thought that the game was lost, yet Piers stared at her as though surprised at the reaction she’d had to him. No, not to him but with him. He was obviously as affected by their passionate kiss as she was. Trouble brewed in her gut as butterflies collided in midair. It was difficult to do, but she struggled to bring a nonchalant attitude to the table.

“It looks like our friends are off to have some fun of their own,” Piers said.

She avoided looking at him, lest he see how she felt. Even she wasn’t sure of her feelings. The best she could do was show Piers how she felt about relationships.

“You will excuse me, won’t you?” Piers asked. “I have work to do for tomorrow’s class.”

He turned and walked away, heading for Mateo’s office.

Moki stood beside her, desserts in hand.

“What on earth has gotten into him? It’s not like Piers to act so cool toward women. He’s usually quite charming.”

“Moki, I think I made a big mistake when I set out to capture him and help ease his pain. He’s not like any other man I’ve ever known. How do I get through to him that I want—oh, never mind. I’ll just have to keep trying.”

“That’s right, Tara, keep working on him. I see a marked difference in him already. Thoughts of Rae are fading, thanks to you.”

“I hope what you say is true. There is something about the kitten versus the tiger that rings true here, but which one of us is the tiger? It used to be me. I think I’ll get him to go swimming. He keeps telling me not to swim alone. Perhaps that would be a good excuse to bring him closer. I’ll see you later.”

Moki nodded then left her alone.

Taking the two desserts with her, she followed Piers to the office and knocked. There was a brief pause before he called out to enter, as though he knew who it was. Tara opened the door and saw him working on some papers. He didn’t lift his gaze to meet hers, so she walked up to the desk and placed his plate on top of them.

“Moki said you were to eat your dessert before we go swimming, or it will spoil.”

Frowning, he finally looked up at her. “Before we go swimming?”

She nodded, offering him a gentle smile.

“You told me that I shouldn’t swim alone, so I was hoping you’d join me.”

When he’d placed his pen on the desk, he leaned back in the chair.

“That’s true. I’ll watch you while you swim, after we eat the trifle.”

“It does look delicious.” She sampled a spoonful, enjoying the flavors bursting on her taste buds. I might as well jump right in. “Piers, why are you so cold to me? Did I do something wrong?”

He shook his head, then sighed. “I’m not good company these days. Sit down and eat. I have some work to finish before we go to the pool.”

Tara placed her palm over his hand to stop him.

“No more work tonight. Let’s enjoy the evening. Are you angry with Kona for taking off with your date?”

He laughed. “Actually, I’m pleased he did. She was a little possessive. I hate having to let women down. I’d much rather work tonight, but I’ll let you swim first.”

“Don’t bother then. I’ll manage alone.” She placed the plate of dessert on his desk and left the room. For some reason his rejection hurt. He didn’t want her, that much was obvious. At least he wasn’t focused on Rae.

Maybe I should cut this vacation short and head back to San Francisco. He wants me around like he wants a hole in his head. I suppose I’ll write Rae an apology letter. I’ve failed in my mission.

A lone tear trailed down her cheek, surprising her.

Why am I crying? I don’t want a relationship anyway, and this is a good way to prevent one.

Once she’d changed into a pink bikini, Tara left her room by the patio doors. When she got to the pool he was sitting on a lounge chair, reading some papers. Though the lights were dim, he kept studying them.

“I thought you had work to do?”

“I do. Carry on with your swim, Tara.”

In order to shock him into paying attention to her, she stripped off her bikini and dove into the pool. At this point, she could care less if he noticed. Anger began to burn through her veins at his callous attitude. The least he could do was watch her rather than keep his nose buried in work.

When she surfaced, she was surprised to see him standing on the tiles staring down at her.

“You were down a long time. I was concerned.”

She rolled her eyes. “I don’t need a babysitter, Piers. Go finish your work in your office. I have no need of you.”

“I’ll take over, Piers,” Kona said.

Tara looked up at him as he stood near the patio doors, his grin sheepish.

“I thought you decided you wanted Selina,” Piers said, his eyes filled with relief.

“No, I found she annoyed me so I pretended to like her and asked her to go to the beach with me. I ditched her at the bar.”

Piers laughed with delight. “You must be the worst date she’s ever had. Did she paw at you like she did to me at the table?”

“She tried. I’m not into that.” His eyes moved over to stare at Tara. “I see you didn’t wait for me. Not to worry, I’m here now. You didn’t tell me we were going to skinny-dip. I like the way your mind works.”

  Tara smiled, waggi
ng a finger at him.

  “Naughty boy. Get in here.”

Kona stripped his clothes off and jumped in, making a big splash, which made her squeal with laughter.

“I’ll go back to my office.”

Piers turned around to leave but Kona spoke up, “Join us. We can have a good long swim then warm up inside with some brandy. I hear Mateo has a good stock.”

It took Piers a moment before he nodded agreement and stripped off. Both men were beautifully built, their cocks hard, long, and thick. “Impressive” was the word Tara chose to describe them.

When Piers dove in, he surfaced near her and pushed his hair out of his eyes, grinning like a kid.

“That feels better. It’s hot tonight.”

“If I have my way, it’s going to get a whole lot hotter,” Kona said, chuckling.

Piers nodded. “An intriguing idea. I believe you two will have a good time. After all, Tara is practicing her Kegel exercises. Maybe she’ll find they are more than useful when it comes to sex.”

“Why not make it three?” she asked, acting the wanton.

Moving in closer, Piers was within arm’s reach when he touched her wet hair and tugged on a few cornrows, pulling her closer. Once again his lips were a whisper away from hers.

“Is that what you truly want, Tara?” he murmured, his voice husky and deep.

She smiled back at him. “I thought you’d never ask.”

When Kona swam closer as well, she put her hand out and brought him up against her body.

“I’ve never had a ménage before. I suppose you’ll have to teach me that as well. I’m terribly inadequate when it comes to threesomes.”

“We’ll see,” Piers growled, slipping an arm around her waist and holding her tight against his body. His cock was hard and hot on her skin. Kona moved in behind her and did the same, kissing her neck.
