Kona didn’t argue the point with him.
Once behind the office door, Piers poured himself a shot of brandy. What happened, or rather, didn’t happen in the bedroom, left him shaken. What was it about the woman that made him feel like he was losing control? As a dominant, he always took command, yet with Tara, it was different. She struggled with becoming a submissive. It turned him on when she fought to remain independent in bed, though she tried to maintain a submissive state.
“That woman drives me to drink.”
He gave a bitter laugh at that and sipped his brandy. In the morning he’d see just how dominant she was. If she came to the breakfast table with her chin up, then she was still in charge and that was one thing he didn’t want. Her submission would be a great success in his eyes. Yes, he wanted, no, needed her to yield to him. He’d never let a woman have power over him again.
Thinking about Tara’s delicious caramel skin hardened his cock in seconds. Yes, she already had too much command when it came to the bedroom. Wrapping her braids around his fist gave him a lot of pleasure, especially when she looked up at him with those daring eyes.
Something happened to him in that bed, and he didn’t like it one bit. He’d suddenly realized that Tara was a threat, and it was imperative that he be the dominant. She would submit to him eventually, he was sure of it.
After taking a huge gulp of brandy, he stared at the desk drawer for a moment. Before he headed for the pool, he wanted to check on her, and pulled out the spare bedroom key. Kona was in the hallway at her door with his ear to the wood.
“Wait a minute,” he whispered. Obviously Kona cared what happened to Tara. Piers assured himself that he didn’t feel the same way. He was only checking on her to make sure she was all right, not because he wanted more of what she’d offered.
Slipping the key into the lock, he turned it slowly and gently opened the door. Both he and Kona walked quietly to the bed and stared down at her. In sleep, Tara was stunning, her lips full, her face soft and relaxed, and she was absolutely beautiful. The braids lay all around her, fanning across the pillow. He could tell she’d been crying, the tears nearly dried on her cheeks.
No, I don’t feel bad about making her cry, he assured himself. Yet, he did, and that angered him. She appeared to be exhausted, the dark circles under her eyes attesting to it, but it didn’t take away from her beauty.
Kona touched his arm and nodded his head to indicate they should leave her. Piers was surprised that he wanted to stay and watch her sleep, but he followed his friend out of the bedroom, locking the door behind them.
“She looks like she was upset,” Kona mused out loud.
“She’ll be fine in the morning. I’ll see you at breakfast at eight o’clock. Goodnight, Kona.”
“Goodnight, Piers. You won’t go back into her room tonight, will you?”
When Piers thought about it, he was annoyed that he wanted to, but shook his head.
“No, I’m going for a swim, then to bed. We have class tomorrow at nine thirty.”
“See you then,” Kona said, heading down the hall to his own room.
Piers watched him go, wondering about Tara. It was difficult for him, but he went back to the office and replaced the key. It ticked him off that he wanted her still. It was time to cool the tiger’s temper and lust for her, and have another swim.
He only hoped that she’d remain hidden for the night rather than see him at his weakest, his cock hard and dripping with want for her. It was going to be a long night, he was sure. A very long night.

The bright sunshine coming through the patio doors woke Tara up. She was shocked to see that it was ten o’clock in the morning. Eleven hours sleep? She seldom got more than eight and never slept in. The night’s pleasures came back full force when she looked in the mirror. Her braids were all askew, her lips swollen, and even her eyes told a tale of yearning.
Piers and Kona must be laughing at me right about now. Well, I’ll show them that last night meant nothing to me.
Liar! You want more, admit it.
I don’t want more. I want to be in control and no one is going to take that from me.
The dress she picked out was turquoise with hot-pink hibiscus flowers scattered across it. She tied it into a sarong style and pulled back her braids, securing them with a large comb in an upswept style. Once she made sure her makeup was in place, she left the bedroom.
To her relief the dining room was empty, a lone plate of fruit and buns awaiting her. When she realized where Piers was, she gasped. The Kegel class! She’d slept right through the first half hour. Instead of eating, she raced down the path outside to the auditorium and paused to catch her breath at the door to the classroom. When she opened the door to peek inside, she saw that Selina had taken her place, her arms wrapped around Piers’s neck. Blazing fury made her prove she was green with jealousy, and that startled her.
I can’t possibly be jealous of that witch. Piers and Kona got rid of her last night, didn’t they?
Instead of going inside, she rushed out the door and went for a walk on the beach. Guests were already taking up the lounge chairs and swimming in the ocean. She headed for the far end of the beach where Kona had first found her the day before. Funny, it seems like a long time ago.
A lot had happened in the past two days.
“Tara!”
She turned and found Kona running toward her. Embarrassed at what had happened last night, she put on a brave face. I can fake it. I’ll show him how strong I am. I’m the Domme, not him and not Piers. So why do I feel like a helpless kitten?”
“Hello, Kona. Isn’t it a beautiful day?”
He looked worried, his eyes full of concern.
“Did we hurt you last night?”
Her heart clenched, but she answered him with a flippant attitude.
“Of course not. I just…I’m not used to being a submissive. It was a little overwhelming, that’s all. I’ll do better next time.”
He took her hand and kissed the back of it.
“Darling, please don’t worry. We’ll treat you carefully.”
Embarrassed, she started getting angry at his tender care.
“Look, let’s not talk about it.”
“Tara, I understand. If you’re not comfortable with this, let me know. We’ll give you a safe word.”
“Safe word?”
“Yes, it’s a word you’ll use if you’re uncomfortable and want to stop. When you say it, we won’t go forward, okay?”
“I don’t need a word, Kona. I’m fine.”
“Tara, a word gives you an out. If it takes the fear away, then use it.”
Chin rising up a notch, she snapped, “I’m not afraid of anything!”
Kona shook his head. “I didn’t say you were, but if you did…oh, never mind. Will you come back to the house with me?”
She released a deep sigh.
“Maybe tonight. I need some space.”
“Space. How’s that for a word?”
“Kona, don’t you ever give up?” she asked, chuckling.
He was so determined to take care of her and she wanted to allow him to, but the price was too high.
“I’ll tell you what, my brave Master, I’ll be there tonight for round two. This time I won’t leave until I decide it’s time. Okay?”
“Time? Are you saying you’ll leave again?”
He was impossible when it came to giving up. She couldn’t help but grin at him.
“Look, buddy, you may think I gave up, but that wasn’t it. I needed some time alone. If I do tonight, you won’t stop me, right?”
“Well sure, but why did you leave last night?”
“Maybe I was testing my abilities. It’s not easy being submissive, you know.”
His eyebrow rose for a moment.
“I’ve never been submissive, so how would I know?”
That brought out laughter. Tara felt better now and was ready to continue with her plan. She looked over his shoulder
and saw Piers making his way down the beach, Selina on his arm. He was frowning and not looking happy about his new “girlfriend.” As a matter of fact, nausea threatened as Tara realized that it bothered her a lot more than was apparent with him. Just the sight of the woman had her grinding her teeth.
“What’s wrong?” Kona asked, turning his head. When he saw Piers with the woman, he laughed.
“I guess you aren’t as indifferent as you pretend to be. Let’s put on a show for them,” he murmured, taking her into his arms.
Before she could protest, his soft, tender lips descended, capturing her in a kiss that curled her toes. She almost forgot about Piers until he cleared his throat. Kona stopped the kiss yet still held onto her. She was grateful for the support. When she met Selina’s eyes, and saw the catlike expression in them, she felt her own claws clench.
“Well, well, look who we’ve run into, Piers, honey. If it isn’t your ex-model.”
Though Tara wanted to scratch back, she bit her tongue and looked up at Kona.
“Let’s go have an early lunch, sweetheart. Suddenly, I’m famished.”
Piers never said a word, his eyes filled with simmering heat. If she didn’t know better, she’d say he was as jealous as she was. It didn’t leave a good taste in her mouth regardless. Things were getting more and more complicated by the minute.
“That works for me, baby. Talk to you later, Piers, Selina.”
Kona kept his arm around her and led her past the couple. It was all Tara could do to keep her gaze straight ahead rather than turn and watch them. She’d never been so angry with a woman before, but Selina had a knack of stirring her ire.
“I’ll walk you back to the house, then I have to go for a few hours. Tonight we have the luau, and I’m doing a fire dance. Will you come?”
It was time to act like she didn’t care about Piers and his “girlfriend.” She smiled up at him.
“I’d love to. Perhaps you can teach me how to do it?”
“Honey, you can light my fire any day. Tonight, however, I’ll be working with Layla. She can teach you some of her act, too.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Though Tara was acting for Kona, he seemed to know it and gave her a quick hug before taking her hand.
“Are you hungry?” she asked, swinging their arms together. All she could think about was Piers and how he didn’t say a word to her. He must be so angry that she walked out on them.
“Not really.”
At that, she laughed. “Neither am I. That woman makes me sick to my stomach. Why don’t we go for a private swim?”
He smiled. “Tonight. I’ll do whatever you want, but not after we enter the bedroom, okay?”
He was persistent, she’d give him that.
“Okay, Master Kona. I’ll see you at dinner. If he brings that tramp with him, I’ll eat in my room. You can join me there if you want to.”
“You drive a hard bargain, slave girl.”
Suddenly, he pulled her close and kissed her hard, evidence of his passion growing against her belly.
“Damn! Now how am I going to walk to the beach looking like this?”
“Like I said, I’m going for a swim. Maybe you should, too.”
“Huh! If I were to go swimming with you, I’d never get to the beach. Now, get away from me before I ravage you right here.”
All her anger disappeared.
“You do tempt me, Kona. But I can wait until tonight.”
“See you then,” he said and turned to walk toward the beach.
He did an adjustment on his shorts, which brought out more laughter from them both. It gave her something to look forward to. Tonight she’d sample what was hidden behind the door to Piers’s room and to hell with what Piers ordered her to do. It was going to be a crazy night.
Chapter 9:
Who’s the Boss?
Until dinnertime, Piers managed to avoid dealing with Tara. The only thing that kept him from getting any work done was the presence of Selina. She was like a leech, her hands constantly seeking contact with him. The only reason he let her was to annoy Tara and it appeared to be working. The longer he pushed, the faster she’d come to terms with the ménage and be the submissive he wanted her to be.
“Piers, thank you for inviting me to dinner again. I knew we had a lot in common,” Selina said in her sing-song voice.
She was practically sitting on his lap, and that got on his nerves, at least until he noticed that Tara was standing at the doorway looking anything but pleased. As soon as he saw her, he turned his full attention to Selina.
“I’m glad you could join us. You look beautiful tonight.” He smiled at her then kissed her hand.
After a full day with the woman he wanted to dump her in the ocean. When Tara didn’t show up for class, Selina sank her teeth into him the moment he started talking at the podium.
“Oh, Dr. Piers, I’d be happy to help you today.”
Since then she’d clung to him nonstop until he was ready to scream at her to get out of his life, yet she had a purpose and he was going to milk it for all he was worth. He’d do anything to push Tara away. She’d gotten beneath his skin and he’d felt alarm bells going off ever since he’d laid the whip to her tender cheeks.
Tonight, she looked stunning in a red sarong laced with white orchid flowers. She also had a real matching orchid pinned by her ear. Even the beads in her hair were red. Selina’s light-blue dress paled by comparison.
She’d gone all out to appear sexy, but was it for him or for Kona?
“Hello, Piers, Selina. What a beautiful day it is.” Tara walked over to her chair at the table and sat down.
“Where’s Kona?” he asked.
“Oh, he had some things to do. He’ll be along soon.”
Selina began to pout, making her big blue eyes water in the process.
“He was so mean to me, leaving me at the bar last night. You should talk to him, Piers. I’m a guest and should be treated with respect.”
Though her comment annoyed the hell out of him, Piers played along.
“Sure I will. Don’t worry about it.”
Tara leaned over her plate and acted coy as she addressed him.
“You know, Dr. Piers, Kona and I had a great time on the beach today. Too bad you couldn’t join us. I know you were kept rather busy with…details.”
Ah, now the catfight begins.
Moki took that moment to enter the dining room carrying a large pot. She winked at Tara before Piers or his “guest” saw her.
“Hello, everyone. Kona will be here in a few minutes. He asked that we get started with the dinner. I have a delicious cold Hawaiian clam soup. I hope you enjoy it.” When Moki leaned over to serve a bowl to Selina, she “accidently” spilled a ladleful on her. “Oh, no! I’m so sorry, my dear. I’ll get you another napkin.”
“You bitch!” Selina screamed. “You did that on purpose!”
Piers stood up fast while Tara poured herself a glass of white wine, remaining calm, unaffected by the outburst.
“You will not call Moki that. She apologized to you. It was an accident.”
Tara appeared to be lost in thought, staring into her wineglass and running her finger around the rim to make a soft ringing sound. Selina, however, was livid, her face flushed bright red.
“You’ve ruined my dress. I’m leaving, Piers. Come with me.”
For a moment, he thought about doing so, but one look at Tara’s averted gaze and he knew she was committing herself to staying the night.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Selina. I have work to do after dinner that takes all my concentration. Moki deserves an apology, don’t you think?”
As though Selina suddenly remembered her place, she grumbled, “I’m sorry I called you a bitch, but you did do it on purpose for her,” she said, pointing at Tara.
“Me? What did I do?” The expression of fake surprise was all Piers needed, to know it was indeed a ruse arranged between the two women.
At that moment, Kona e
ntered the room, a big smile on his face.
“Wow, what a mess. Would you like me to take you to your hut?” he asked, tongue in cheek.
“Nooo!” Selina shouted, all semblance of a civilized woman gone. She stomped her way to the front door, leaving a trail of cream and clams along the shiny tile floor.
When the door slammed, they all looked at Moki. She shrugged.
“Some people just don’t like clam soup, I guess.”

Though Tara knelt on the soft carpet, she found it difficult to remain still and quiet. Piers and Kona were on the bed, but she wasn’t permitted to look up at them. She knew it was Piers who made her stay put. He was trying to make sure she understood who was boss in the bedroom. Frustration caused her to squirm, and he noticed right away.
“Slave girl, you will not move, is that understood?”
Resentment burned in her veins. Being a submissive wasn’t as easy as it sounded.
When I have him in my room, he’s going to wish he’d treated me a hell of a lot better.
Tara schooled her features, trying to fake submission. Somehow Piers knew what she was thinking and he wouldn’t let her go. She was about to leave and be damned with it when he said, “Come here and climb up on the bed between us.”
She was surprised they hadn’t made her use the Ben Wa balls. He seemed bent on making her uncomfortable.
“You will say ‘yes, Master’ when I tell you to do something.”
Unable to stop it, her eyes betrayed what she was thinking. The thought of being whipped again turned her on already, yet they didn’t have any “toys” on the bed.
Once she was lying on her back, he leaned over and studied her eyes. By the frown on his face, he wasn’t pleased with what he saw.
“You are determined to be punished, aren’t you, slave girl?”
“No, Master,” she hissed, allowing her attitude to show.
Kona laughed. “She sure is a stubborn one.”
“Yes, she is. What should we do to make her submit like she’s supposed to?”
“What we usually do, make her wait for release until she begs us.”
Fury made her lose control of her tongue as she shouted, “I’m not–"
