“Very well. Thank you, Mr. Taylor. I’ll….” My eyes shift to Riley. Her body rigid, her arms hanging down in front of her as her hands clasped together fidgeting. Her face contains a light blush in embarrassment. I look back over at Taylor. “I’ll tend to Mrs. Wright and let Riley have her breakfast.” Taylor nods at me and then at Riley, turns and walks back down the hall. When I look at her, I’m surprised to find her smiling at me. “Well, uh….” I’m virtually speechless. What do you say after that narrow escape? What do you say after our heat mingled, our bodies as one and our hearts beating together? “I’ll just….”

Her soft hand on my arm stops me from walking, my head snapping back to her. “You know I don’t regret that. Any of it.” My body is filled with everything I’m feeling for her as my hand covers hers and my lips lift in a smile.

“I don’t regret it either. I never will.” I turn, walk down the hallway to go to my wife feeling that maybe, just maybe, this is will be ok.

  Chapter Four

I’m in trouble. I’m falling in love with a man I hardly know, a married man with a dying wife to boot, and she’s so sweet. How can I do this to her? I need to leave, run far away and try to push him from my mind. Can I do that? Well, I can leave, but can I remove him from my heart and soul? I know Marty will tell me I’m young. I have my whole life ahead of me, and I’ll get over it, but will I? What will happen to Mr. Wright? Oh, my God! I don’t even know his first name. I’m sick. What in the hell has gotten into me? He has. And what about Trisha? She needs care. I know! I’ll call Lauren. She was assigned to help me with whatever I need while I’m here. I’ll just make up something, tell her a relative is dying and needs me, not that I have any living relatives except for Marty, but no one knows that. Laying my fork down on my plate, my food untouched, I sigh. I hate lying.

Feeling a little sick to my stomach, I head for my bedroom to pack my things. Yes, I’ll leave tonight when everyone’s asleep. As I approach my door, I hear laughter coming from Trisha’s bedroom. Quietly, I tiptoe down the several steps to her door and listen.

“Oh, my, gosh! And do you remember the time he fell on top of that snow bank? He was so drunk and we laughed and laughed. I don’t know that I’ve ever laughed that hard in my life.” Trisha’s voice so strong then his laughter becomes louder.

“That was extremely funny and then when he slid down, hitting his head on the sidewalk ‘Thump’. I thought he’d split his head wide open.” Laughter ensues for a few minutes, and I turn to walk back to my room but when the sounds die down, I hear his voice. “I’ve been so lucky to have you in my life, my darling, to share all these wonderful memories. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. You make me so very happy.” My heart races, the feeling sweeps through me of love lost, or maybe it was never found. They’re so in love and here I am in my young life thinking he could ever love me like that. No regrets. I don’t regret our sexual encounters. I do regret ever coming here.

I’m careful as I quickly step back to my room and begin packing. I’m a stupid idiot, stupid, stupid, stupid girl. I look up at the ceiling when the lights flicker again and head into the bathroom. As I gather my things up in the bathroom, the storm outside starts to rage again, my head snapping up at the mirror when the lights dim and then go out. Great. Fumbling around in the drawers, groping blindly in search of a flashlight, I smack my head against the counter. “Ow!” My body tingles as two strong hands grasp my waist, turning me around in the darkness, then muscular arms wrap around me, leading me slowly. My arm instinctively moves around a lean waist. My hand fisting into the material of their shirt, holding on as the feeling of dizziness overwhelms me.

“Riley, you’re ok now. It’s Parker.” The voice belongs to Mr. Wright, but I had no idea his first name is Parker. “Come now, let’s just get you over to the bed safely and I’ll find a flashlight.” Finally making it to the bed, he helps me sit down and all I can hear is the sound of him rummaging through the nightstand beside me. “Ah, there we are.” My eyes squint as the bright light hits my face, my brows creasing. “Sorry. What’s that….?” I cringe when his finger touches my forehead, my eyes looking up and into his concerned face. “We need to get some ice on that quickly. What happened?”

My hand moves up to the bump that seems to be growing, brushing his finger away. “Oh, I was just clumsy in the dark. It’s fine, it doesn’t even hurt,” I lie. Just as quickly, my hand is moved aside when his finger comes back, gently pressing around the swelling. “Ow.”

“Up you go,” he says, grasping my upper arm, his arm wrapping around my waist while pulling me to a standing position. With flashlight in hand, he leads me down the stairs, our silence thickening, my tension increasing as we enter the kitchen. He guides me over to the table and helps me sit down then I watch his lean and muscular body walk over to the refrigerator, the way his muscles in his arm tighten as he opens a drawer next to it bringing out a dish cloth. Gathering some ice, he places some in the towel, closes the freezer door and heads back to me. I wince when the coldness presses against my head, his other hand on my shoulder and when I look up, I see his brows are low, the concentration apparent on his face. “There now. Well, keep this on for a little bit, then remove it, and continue on and off for a while.” I hear him mumble something about it being his fault. He should have shown me where the flashlight and candles were and…. “Wait. Why was your suitcase lying open on your bed? Are you….? Are you leaving?” His hand on the ice pack follows as my head bows, my hands start fidgeting in my lap. “You are. But why? Trisha needs you here. She’s quite fond of you and…. My head lifts with his fingertips gently pushing my chin up. “I’m more than fond of you. I thought…. I thought we were headed to something special, something….”

“Were we? It doesn’t feel that way.” My lies are becoming more real to even me. His eyes are filled with shock as he drops his hands from both under my chin and the ice pack from my forehead. Handing me the ice pack, I take it, the cold flowing into not only my hands but my words pouring coldness throughout my body. He takes a step back, his face full of sadness and my heart breaks.

“You really feel that way.” It was a statement, not a question. He squares his shoulders back, his body tense. “What will it take for you to stay? It’s hard to find someone that Trisha is comfortable with. I will leave you alone, Trisha is more important than anything else. More money?” My head snaps back as if he’d slapped me.

“You think the money matters to me? I just…. I don’t know.” Quickly, he’s in front of me again, only this time, he’s on bended knee. His hands are placed on mine and his eyes are full of hurt, pain, and I’m not sure what other emotions.

“Don’t stay for me then, stay for Trisha. Please, I…. I’ll beg you if needed. I just…. She needs you. There’s nothing more important right now than her being comfortable and her happiness until her time. Don’t you understand?” My eyes search his in hearing his pleas, and I can’t help but nod, my heart breaking in his love for his wife. “Yes? You’ll stay?” My head nods a little harder, and I watch as the relief washes over him. He stands, takes my hand holding the ice pack and lifts it until the pack is against my bump. “Thank you. Keep this on there, please.” My eyes stare as he turns and starts to leave the kitchen, leaving the flashlight sitting on the table, shining brightly for me to see. Before he’s through the doorway, his head turns as he stops. “I’ll stay away. I don’t…. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable in your time here. I’ll….” He turns, disappearing through the doorway and leaving me breathless, confused and hurt.

  ~*~*~*~

Dammit! I slam my fist down on my desk, the flashlight and papers jumping with the impact. I’ve got to do something to keep her here. I know she has insecurities about us…. Us. What are we exactly? We’ve fucked twice and, other than that, I got nothing. But to me, it’s more, I want it to be more. My heart, my gut and my soul tell me I have to have her. She was going to leave me, leave Trisha. I can’t let that happen. I need
to keep my distance because I can’t control myself around her. Not anymore.

It was a long day of tedious work, my mind plaguing me constantly of Riley. Not wanting to cause her anymore stress about staying, I worked through dinner, then worked out in the gym. By nine o’clock, after my shower, I walked to Trisha’s room only to stop at the door when I heard Riley reading out loud. Quietly, I push the door open just a crack and see her sitting on the bed, next to Trisha, her head bent as she reads, her fingers slowly turning a page. Looking over at Trisha, I find her sweet smile on her pale face, making my heart full of the love I’m feeling. Slowly, I turn and head to my room, my heart racing from watching. I need a release in a bad way, and since I can’t have Riley, I’ll have to find another way.

Heading straight into my bathroom, I open a couple of drawers until I find what I’m looking for, grab the tube of lube and take it to my bed. Once my clothes are removed, and I’m settled, I squeeze out some into my hand and moan when I grasp my cock, which is already thick and rigid in excitement. My eyes close, and I imagine Riley’s hand there instead of mine as I rub up and down, squeezing simultaneously. My other arm covers my face as my adrenaline begins to flow throughout my body, my heart beginning to speed up with my strokes. I can just see her small hand trying desperately to fit around my thickness. Her tongue licking across her bottom lip as her other hand cups my balls, fondling them, caressing them as her stroking becomes faster. Another moan escapes as my mind sees her grip my aching cock tighter. Her movements growing more intense and I scream out as my release expels into my hand and on the bed.

Lying there, my body still shuddering, my arm uncovers my face fast when I hear the door open. “Parker?” Riley’s voice fades off as my eyes stare into hers. “Oh! Sorry. I thought I heard….” Her eyes leave mine. Her mouth drops open as her eyes travel down my naked body landing on my hand still holding my cock that immediately hardened when I looked at her. I can see her chest beginning to rise and fall, her breathing becoming more erratic then her eyes snap up to mine and the most beautiful rose colored flush spreads across her cheeks. Her head turns away with her body as she opens the door wider, taking a few steps and I can barely hear her speak. “I thought you were hurt. I…. Um….” And then as the door closes softly, her leaving me, my eyes close, and I let out the breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. After cleaning myself up, I changed the sheets and climbed into bed. Laying there staring at the ceiling all I could see was Riley.

The next few days Riley avoided me, which was probably for the best. I wasn’t embarrassed in the slightest what she walked into that night. On the contrary, I was hoping it would make her want what we had burn in her enough to want it again. I was wrong. She continued to take care of Trisha, comfort her, read to her, and really they’ve become closer. We’ve not eaten a meal together through all this time, and I’ve buried myself in my work and getting my sexual and Riley frustrations out at the gym. There’s just so much you can do at the gym and in your bed, alone. She finally asked for a day off. I’ve no idea where she’s gone or with whom but my curiosity and jealousy are getting the better of me. In such a short time, how in the hell can my heart beat so hard for this girl? There’s just something about her. Oh, yes the sex is extreme, leaving me wanting for more, but there’s something about her, her simplicity, her beauty, her sweetness. Damn, my cock’s hard again. Time for another cold shower.

That evening after an intense workout and yet another cold shower I thought I’d spend some time with Trisha, lying around in bed and talking. We’ve not been able to cuddle for quite some time with her in such a fragile state. When I approach her bedroom, the sounds of voices make me stop before entering.

“I dunno, Trisha. It’s just so strange, you being here. It’s just not…. It’s just not right,” Riley states, her voice shaky and unsure.

  Silence.

“Sweetheart, let me tell you a story. Parker and I fell in love in an instant. There is such a thing as love at first sight. I’d never believed that before, until I saw him. I knew right away there was no one else for me. I couldn’t live without him. Lucky for me, he felt the same way.” My mind moves back to the time we met. She’s right, so right. We both felt it immediately. “You’re a young and beautiful woman who has good sense and the right morals but sometimes fate has a hand in what happens in our lives and fate doesn’t always come at the right time.” I smile when I hear her chuckle. Music to my ears. “I told Parker a long time ago, when the cancer started spreading, that I wanted him to find someone, someone that makes him happy.” My heart saddens with the words she’s been repeating to me for so long. “You make him happy, sweetheart and I can tell by the look in your eyes when you’re around him, he makes you happy too.”

Leaning closer I barely hear a whisper, then silence again thinking I’ve been eavesdropping for far too long now. I quietly walk to my room, taking a quick shower, then crawling into bed, not bothering to put my normal sleep pants on. Not being able to go to sleep, I lay there thinking about what a shit day it’s been. The cancer is spreading faster now, according to the doctor today. I’ve scared Riley off and when Trisha’s gone, Riley will leave. I don’t know if my heart can take two people that I love leaving me. Love. My heart starts beating fast. My body begins to tingle all over as the realization hits that…. I love Riley.

  Chapter Five

“Mmmmm.” My mind is definitely active tonight as it replays the images of the night I had to take care of my sexual frustration on my own. Visions of Riley stroking me are so vivid again, but they’re so much more. I can almost feel her lips around the head of my cock, her tongue licking it…. Wait! My eyes open, look down to find Riley in between my legs, her mouth completely over my rock hard cock and her tongue doing amazing things. Her eyes look up at me through her long lashes, and I can’t stop myself from reaching down, putting my hands on the back of her head and gently pushing. A deep guttural moan escapes me as she sucks, licks and nips while her hand covers my balls, rolling, fondling and squeezing them, my head hits the pillow hard. I’m shocked I’ve lasted this long, but once her mouth covers most of my cock and feeling it hit the back of her throat, I’m done for. I scream out her name as my sperm ejaculates into her mouth in a rush. My eyes roll back into my head as my body shakes. Most intense orgasm I’ve ever had in my life. When I finally calm down enough my eyes open to two gorgeous brown ones staring at me.

Sitting up my hand reaches out, taking one of her hands that is fidgeting in her lap and pull her to me. Pushing her down onto the bed, I make haste in grabbing the bottom of her thin camisole, raising it up her body as my eyes cloud over with desire at seeing her ample breasts and rosy nipples that are already peaked and waiting for my mouth. She sits up enough that I can bring it over her head. I toss it to the floor as my lips engulf her nipple, and I begin sucking hungrily. The sexiest moan flees her mouth as her body vibrates beneath me, and my hand moves down her body capturing her wetness as I stroke her. My finger penetrating her while my thumb rubs her clit. “Ahhh,” she screams as her climax is reached, but I’m not done. I move down her body, opening her legs wide with my hands, my cock not needing any help as its zoned right where it longs to be and in one hard push we both moan in conjunction. We move as one as our bodies become hot with sweat, our panting loud as our passion becomes faster, harder until we both fall into ecstasy together. This wasn’t just sex anymore. We actually made love for the first time and it was heavenly.

I hear her gasp softly as my cock pulls out, and I collapse next to her, throwing my arm around her waist and turning onto my side. “You are the most incredible woman I’ve ever known. Thank you.” She looks at me, her smile widening on her radiant face. She leans over and kisses me, not frantic, not in desire, but full of love.

We both jump when a loud scream shrieks from outside the room. Stumbling out of bed and quickly throwing on my jeans, I open the door and run out into the hall just in time to hear another scream. Trisha. Tripping, I almos
t fall as I take off in a run, barreling into Trisha’s room, catching my next fall when I stop abruptly. Mrs. Lewis is standing a few feet from Trisha’s bed, her hands covering her mouth as tears flow down her face. Her face is as white as a sheet. My eyes leave her shivering body over to the bed and grow wide when I look upon Trisha’s lifeless body. Her once creamy pink complexion is now paled with her death. Her eyes still open, but staring into the depths of death. Letting out a cry, I fall to my knees, bending over until my head touches the floor, and I begin to sob. Between my cries I hear feet running in the carpet’s softness, then coming to a screeching stop behind me, and then the sound of a slap of a hand on the door frame, and a loud intake of air followed by a muffled cry. Finally, I gather my senses, make myself stand and walk over to Mrs. Lewis giving her a hug, letting her cry into my shoulder until I pat her back and whisper for her to go home. She nods, kisses my cheek, and I turn to look at my precious sweet wife. Walking to her, I sit on the bed beside her and place my fingers over her eyes, closing them gently.

“I’ve called an ambulance, sir, asking for no sirens, as well as the funeral home.” I barely register Taylor speaking, but nod slightly at his voice. All I can do is stare at my loving wife and pray for peace as her soul flies to heaven.

I don’t know how long I’ve been sitting here, but sounds invade the room as paramedics arrive. Slowly, I bend to her sweet face, and my lips touch the coolness of hers. “My heart leaves with you, my love. May God bless you and keep you in his arms.” A lonely tear drops on her cheek, and I brush it away as I rise, turn and leave everyone to do what they came for. I walk in a daze down the stairs, into the living room and over to the corner bar where I pour myself a Jack straight up, downing it quickly. Thunder roars its ugly head again as a storm comes barreling in. The darkness of the living room lit up for a brief moment with the lightning and the sounds of high winds bellowing against the windows. Thoughts of another storm enter my head, and I look around the room as if I’ve lost something. Riley. Slamming down the glass, I jog to the stairs and taking two at a time, my heart beating this time with fear as I run through her open bedroom door. When I flip on the switch her room looks just how I was dreading. Clean. Bed made. No clothes anywhere, no suitcase. I walk into her bathroom and it’s the same. All of her belongings are gone.
