Zombie World Page 9

by Ronald DuBois

I headed as fast as I could to the back of the school. When I got there were zombies coming out of the river, with all this hot weather we been having the river was not flowing like it should have been. I got on the radio and call Mia and told her that I was going to need help down help. She asked me what was going on? I told her that we have zombies coming across the river and we have a lot of them.

Just as the president said you can now kiss your brides, Mia run up there and told Paul and Tc that they were needed to the back of the school. They kissed their brides and grabbed their gun and headed to the river where I was waiting for them taking out as many zombies I could. Mai started to one person from each guard tower leaving one person at each tower.

Paul and Tc got there, there had to be just over a hundred dead walking mindless hungry zombies coming across the river. Paul pointed to a spot on the ridge for Tc to get his ass up there to help sniping the zombies. Mia called me on the radio and told me that there are more people coming to help. I looked up and I saw Linda, Sabrina, and Pam all coming over the ridge. Sabrina ran over by Tc and got in a spot to snipe zombies. Pam ran over to Paul, he looked at her and said I love you, but I need you on the other wall over there. She blew hi a kiss and ran to the wall. I told Linda to head over with Pam and watch her back.

It took us about an hour to kill all the mindless bastards. We lost three people in that attack. We never thought they would come across the river, now we need to build something to block it off.

Tc asked what if we took a semi-truck and parked it in between the fences as a wall? We can put people up there to keep a watch out.

Paul said that sounded like a good idea, but the only problem we might have is if the water gets too high.

I said that we could have it set up to move it if we need to. We are also going to have to put some panels on it so they can’t get under it to get through.

The president called us to his office. Paul and I were getting to go, Paul turned around and told Tc to come with us. We can talk about this more on the way there. The Col. was already there waiting for us to get there. Hi and the president were talking about some of the things we needed to fix. When we got there the president asked if we had the list of everything that needed to be fixed? We told him that we have to list and we are going to get people on it.

The Col. said what is he doing here this is a meeting for the high ranking people. I looked at the Col. and said that he is with us we were talking about how to fix the back fence. We need to have something there some if more zombies cross the river they can’t get in.

The president said that it was fine we can use all the help we can get.

The president asked Tc what was his idea?

Tc told him what it was and he thought it was a good idea, we also told him what we were going to do to the trailer so they could not get under it. Paul and I told the president and the Col. that all the thing that we have to fix here is going to take about a month or more.

The president said that was fine, but when you are all doing that I want you to look around and make sure that there is nothing more that we might be able to fix better. He also wanted to know when we thought when we could make a move in to the city of Corning to clear it out.

We told them that we should be able to scout it out in the next few weeks if we can get some of the thing here fixed so if we come back and they follow we will be safe and have a good way to wipe them out.

The Col. said he would like to see if we could mount a flame thrower on the wall by the front gate. That would stop them if we could burn them down.

John said, now that is a good idea I think we could do that.

Two weeks later we were getting ready to head into the city of Corning. The Col. helped us to get that flame thrower put up on the wall right next to the front gate. We didn’t just put one up there, we put one on each side of the gate. He also put a 50 caliber machine on both side as well.

Pam came walking out with the gear that Paul gave her. She was loading her thing in to the pickup truck that Paul and I ride in.

Paul asked her, what are you think you’re doing?

She said that she was going with us, I just got married to you and I am not going to lose you. We are going to do everything together.

I looked over at Paul and said don’t fight it just let her come along.

We had a team of fifteen people to help of scout out the city. We were heading out of the gate of the compound he had a five people on the blockade, they are going to open it up so we can drive thou to get over the bridge. They were going to stay there until we got back. We backed water and some MRE’s to eat just in case we get pin downed. We were taking three pickup trucks two of the trucks would be carrying the teams and the third truck would be used to bring things back to the compound. We were mainly going to so how many zombies were still in the city and were we would need to put up walls to make it a safer place to move everyone into the city. We wanted to add the city with the compound so we could eventually go out and find more people to bring back. But before we can do that there were a lot of thing that had to be done.

We drove across the bridge in to the back side of the city. We wanted to get in to the buildings so we could get to the roof. We would be able to see big parts of the city and we could go from one building to the next. Once we cleared the building on one block we would then move to the next block. We wanted to clear the building and whatever zombies we seen on the street or sidewalk. The first building we went into was a pet store. There were no zombies in there, but there were a lot of dead animals. We all felt sorry for the animals, they must have died from starvation. We headed to the next building it was an office building, it was also clear.

We went from building to building a lot of them were clear. There were a few buildings that had some zombies in, like some had apartment above the stores or offices. Before we moved to the next block we had five people stay behind to get whatever food or meditation they could find and load it into their truck. By the time there were done, they would come and start on the next block that we clear. When we were on the roof tops we would look down on to the street to see how many zombies we could see. There were not many, we could only see like 15 to 20 zombies just walking around. There were a few that were laying down or sitting alongside of buildings. Some might be dead but it was kind of hard to tell. We took out the ones we could see.

So far so good we have not lost anyone yet, we hope that we don’t lose anyone at all. Seeing my kids and people I care a lot about running from building to building scared the hell out of me. Only because I know that if we screw up one little bit we could lose the people I care about. I know that we are the best people to do this, it’s just I have seen what happens to people that get bit or people that get corned by zombies with no way out. I try notto think about it, but it’s always right there in the back of my mind.

We were on the fourth block, still on the right side. We still haven’t gone across the street yet to clear that side. It was a little past 12 in the afternoon we decided that we were on the roof of the fourth block that we would wait until the others to catch up with us. When they get here we were going to sit down and eat. We still had five more buildings not counting to one we are on to clear before we get to the other side of the street. Some of the building were only had two to three floors, but a few had four floors to clear. The building that had zombies in, we would kill them and open a window and throw them out onto the side walk. We would leave the windows open to air them out, because when we move in to the city it would be nice to have the building not smelling like the dead.

About 45 minutes later the other finely caught up with us, we all sat down and eat the MRE’s that we brought with us. We were all taking about a c ouple of building on the other side one was a pizza place and the other one was a BK everyone was saying that they could go for a slice of pizza or a whopper and fries from BK. I told them that I miss Denny’s I love their burgers and fries, but I will never have it aga
in. No my daughter in law Linda can make a really good burger, so I can live with that as long as we can find more cows.

As we were eating Tc got bored and went to the side of the building and was taking out zombies down on the street and the sidewalk. He was looking through the scope when he seen tents on the roof top right across from us. We called John and Paul over to take a look. Paul pulls out his binoculars and Tc pointed to the building right across from us.

Paul said that it lookslike someone was living there but I don’t see anyone. Tc was looking through his scope and said the same thing, but from what I can see it looks like no one has been there for a little while.

I asked how can you tell that?

Tc said that the tent looks like it about to fall down. There is a big hole in the side of it. Paul agreed with him he said that there was a pole with a lantern laying on the roof right beside the tent. He also said that it looks like someone cut the tent with a knife to get out of it.

I said we will check it out when we get over there.

Tc said wait I see blood on the right side of the tent and it almost looks like there is someone still in the tent I can’t really tell. I can only see what looks like a foot. I said that it can wait until we get over there, Paul agreed with me.

We all started to go to get the rest of the building on this street cleared. We got this building cleared and was getting ready to head to the next. One of the men was not paying attention and walked right in to a few zombies. He was screaming, we tried to help but we could not get to him there were to many of the undead. Paul slammed to door shut. He ordered everyone back to the roof. When we got up there he had Tc and Pam get on the fire escape and try to kill all the zombies that they could see. Tc said that he could see Tom he was on the top of a van.

Paul and I asked how bad is he hurt?

Tc said from what he could tell; he was hurt really bad. Tc called out to Tom and said

  you ok.

Tom looked back and told him to shoot him in the head. There were ten zombies that grabbed Tom

They were still trying to get to him they were all around the van. Tc and Pam started to shot the

zombies. After they killed them all, Tc called out to Tom to see how he was doing. Tom just laid there,

Tc pulled up his rifle as he looked down the scope to see if Tom has turned yet. Tc tried to call out for

him again and again, but Tom did not move or say anything. Paul told him that Tom is gone just

shoot him. Tc had a tear run down his face as he shoots Tom in the head. When he was done Tc said

this was getting to hard to shoot people that he calls a friend. Paul went over and sat down with him

and told him that here in this messed up world. We are going to have to do thing that going to break

us, but we need to move on.

We were on the other side of the road about half way done. We were heading into the building that

had the tent on the roof. We were making are way to the roof as we climbed out of the

  window on the

third floor. We climbed out onto the fire escape, and went to the roof. We slowly moved

  to the tent, as

we got closer to the tent we could see someone’s feet inside it.

Paul got on one side of the tent John got on to the other side. Pam and Tc stood ready, Paul took

the butt of his gun and hit the person’s feet. The person did not move John slowly

  unzipped the

window. It took him about 2 minutes to open the window on the tent. John stood back

  a little bit and

looked into the window. There was a man in there, it appeared that he shot himself in

  the head. John

told Paul that there was a note on his chest it was in a sandwich bag. Paul reached in

  and grabbed

the letter. He unfolded it and started to read it out loud.

To whom ever reads this, my name was Jim Taff I have been on this roof now for over four months. I was up here with my wife Tina and are son Bill we lived up here and did not have a problem with the dead that roam around

the city. We had everything to survive for a long time, so I thought. Bill and my wife got up early one morning and went into the building to look for food.

Bill ran into a zombie and got bit. My wife ran to him and also got bit she did

Kill the zombie. They came back and told me what happened, I took care them

until they turned. I killed them both and put their bodies down on the street. I then back up here waiting to be saved, but no one ever came. I couldn’t Live myself any longer so came up with this, to put my last bullet in my head I Just god will forgive me.

This was Jim Taff GOOD BYE WORLD

Tc said that he would have probably would have done to same, but a whole lot sooner.

John told him not to think like that, my little girl needs you. The baby she is having is going to need

you, and I know it’s not your baby but you are the one that is going to raise he or she. My little girl is

going to want to have more kids, and you need to be there for her and them.

Tc said that what he meant to say was that if anything happened to her and that baby he would not

  want to keep living.

Paul spoke up and saidthat you can’t do that ether. The way to keep them a live is to

survive to keep their memories live.

We are on the last building on this block, the sun is going down. We are all hungry and tiered and ready to get back to the compound. Paul and John told everyone that this is there last building, and that as soon as we are done we can head home. Pam said that we still have the BK to go through as well. I bet that place is going have a lot of thing we can use in there.

John told her everyone is going to clear this building, Paul, Tc, and myself are going to go and clear it. We want to get this done so we can all get out the city. Paul and John told everyone to clear this build as fast as they can but be smart and be careful. We already lost one person we don’t want to lose any one else. He told them we were going to the BK building right next to this one.

As we walked out of the door we seen some zombies moving around. From what we can tell they move more at night then in the day time. They move when the sun is out, but it seem like they move more freely at night. When we got to the building, Paul banged on the glass door like we do all the time. We waited for a few minutes before we head in. Once we got inside we could not smell any dead bodies, but that didn’t mean that there was no dead inside. The seating area was clear, we headed to the back in to the kitchen. There were two walk in freezers, Paul banged one and John banged on the other one. We didn’t hear anything, Paul opened his first. We told Tc not to breathe through his noise, because we knew if there were any meat in there it was going to smell bad. Paul pulls the door open and there were no zombies, but there was a lot of rotting meat. It was Johns turn to open his door. John pulls the door open slowly. Thinking the someone or something was going to jump out. John opened the door all the way there were three dead people inside. They were all shot in the head but one. That one was not shot, he was in a wheel chair and was a zombie. It looked like he died from suffocation from being inside of the freezer. Paul shot him in the head and Tc picked up the gun he found lying on the floor of the freezer. There were only three bullets in the gun but one was not fired. Tc handed it to Paul, Paul looked at the bullet that was not fired and said this must be way he didn’t shot himself. John asked why is that? The bullet was a dud that is why it didn’t fire.

All the food in hear is no good, all the buns were moldy the meat was rotten. The only thing we could use was the salt. Tc said that they can clean it up and reopen it when we can get meat to replace that went bad. Paul and John said that is going to be awhile. The rest of the team caught up with us. They told us that they were done with that building. They asked if we could head home? Paul asked if they got everything they could fi
nd that we could us? They said that we have two trucks fully loaded and the other truck has Tom’s body on it so we can take him home and bury him in our grave site for the lose ones. John told everyone to load up, we are going home. We all loaded in to the trucks and headed to home base.

We crossed over the bridge there were a lot of dead zombies lying on the ground. The closer we got the more we seen. When we got to the blockade there were two people standing on top of the buses we were using to block the road. We saw on jump down and got into the driver seat to move the bus. We drove through and headed to the main gate. When we got there the Col. was there and asked us how everything went? We told him that we lost one person. He asked who it was? Tc was sitting in the back and pulled the tarp back and said that we lost Tom. We told the Col. that we would talk to him when we got cleaned up and something to eat. The Col. told them that is fine, just come to the president’s office he is going to want a report as well. Paul and John told him that they will be there in about two hours.

After we got cleaned up we headed to the office to give our report. When we walked into the office the president was standing there and said that I heard that you lost one. Paul said yes we lost one and he has a name. The president apologized and said I didn’t mean any disrespect to him. John got up out of his chair and said that he was a good man we are going to miss him he has done a lot to make this place safe. Paul and John told the president that everyone here has a roll. They are a chain and if that chain brakes that means that we have a missing link. They said that with him gone that means that the chain just got smaller. That president told us that he knows that Tom cannot be replaced, but while you guys were gone we had ten new people show up. We have them in the clinic to have them all checked out. With that said it makes are chain a little stronger. We can use everyone we can get here.

The president said that we have to make a plan to get to that airport that you told me about. He also said that we need to get back in to the city and start to barricade it in so we have more room to put people. The more people we get we are going to need the room to put everyone that comes here. Paul said that barricading the city should not be that hard, all we need to do is to us the cars and truck we can find and block off the roads. Once we get that done we should have no trouble getting fencing up to make it safer.
