I opened my eyes as I heard a sharp scream emanate from Hunter’s mouth.
“Initiating total shutdown of Protocol 00,” the mechanical voice boomed over the loud speaker for one final time.
All the lights suddenly turned off, enveloping us in total blackness, as the sound of Hunter’s body lifelessly hitting the floor echoed in my ears.
I grabbed onto Ethan’s arm, the echo of the gunfire suddenly silencing the entire world, which seemed to grow still. I closed my eyes, my body collapsing with shock and pain as I hit the floor. I can’t do this. I shuddered, letting the tears stream out of my closed eyes. I can’t take this pain anymore. I give up.
My head shook as a pool of blood began to collect around my leg. I could feel the movement of the guards around us, as death neared even closer. There was a grunt from behind me, and I jerked forward as the large, cold hands of a man wrapped around me. I surrendered my body to the will of his arms, and let him carry me away into another world of pain.
It’s not over yet. I flailed my arms, desperately clawing for death to come back. I felt a cold sensation course through my body, as I braced myself for more pain and anguish. This never ends. I screamed madly. I will never be able to escape this hell.
