The Wedding Blues (7 Brides for 7 Brothers Book 9)

“You’ve been busy today,” he said.
My heart was racing in my chest so hard that I covered it with my hand, also tucked the towel in a little more securely. “You scared the bejesus out of me.”
He chuckled. “Sorry.” Davy glanced around the room then he looked at me.
“I don’t think you are.”
I reached into a drawer and grabbed a pair of pajama shorts and a tank then I closed it with my hip. I slipped the bottoms up beneath the towel and dropped it to the floor with my back to him, so I could put on my top. He chuckled at me again. “What’s so funny?” I asked glancing over my shoulder.
“I’ve seen you naked, Caz. We’ve been together now nine months. We’re getting married in three weeks yet you’re still self-conscious around me.” And he was not. Davy walked naked around the house whenever the mood struck him. I was fascinated by his body. Mine, not so much.
“It’s my ass, I’m self-conscious about.” I quickly put on my tank to cover my enormous breasts. “My breasts too,” I added.
When Davy and I made love, we made love in the dark. When I showered, I showered alone. I don’t think that Davy really minded that. He preferred to shower alone too. The bath together just once.
When I changed clothes, I tried to change in the closet or use the towel for cover myself like I just had.
He held out his hand to me. I started to reach for the towel on the floor. “Caz, leave the towel.”
I stepped over it as much as it bothered me to leave that towel in a heap on the floor and went to Davy. He tugged me between his knees and wrapped both arms around my waist. “Caz, what’s wrong? Why all the changes?”
I laid my cheek against Davy’s head. I needed his comfort and his security. I needed his reassurance. “I feel like things have changed between us Davy. Like you aren’t as interested in me.”
He sighed heavily like there was a lot weighing on him. “I guess I should have talked to you.”
I raised my head and stepped back. “You’ve changed your mind?” I felt my heart drop.
He looked up at me. “No, I still want to marry you. I wondered if you wanted to marry me.”
I frowned at Davy. “Why would you think that? I’ve made all the arrangements. Got stuck a bazillion times for my fitting. I’m ready for our big day, are you?”
Davy drew me back into his arms. He lifted me and laid me gently on the bed. “Caz, when Lacey left and didn’t tell anyone where she was going you wanted to postpone our wedding.” He was gazing at me. His warm eyes intense and sad. “I understood your reasons, I really did but in my mind, I was thinking, here I go again. Another woman who is delaying our wedding because she doesn’t really want to marry me.”
I had to be honest with Davy. He had opened the door for me to tell him about my own fears. “And I’ve been thinking that you were still hung up on Georgie.”
He glanced around the room. “Is that why we have new paint and new linens?” He asked.
I nodded.
Davy was tender when he laid his hand on my cheek. He looked at my hair then his eyes traveled across my face. “I feel like I might be sleeping with the other woman tonight,” he whispered.
I laughed then I felt a tear trickle down the side of my cheek. Davy touched his lips to the wet spot beneath my eyes. “Why are you crying?”
“I thought I might be second best. I feel like I’ve been second best my whole life with my dad and Uncle Eddie,” I responded. “Mom played no favorites, she didn’t care about Lacey or me.”
He cupped my head in his palm and lifted me gently in his arms. “Caz, you’ve never been second best to me. Never, I promise.” He kissed the sensitive spot beneath my ear, eliciting a groan from me.
I clutched at Davy’s hands holding me. Then he moved across my cheek and pressed his lips so softly to my skin I wasn’t sure that they had been there at all.
His hand slid across my stomach. “Are you tired, Caz? You did a lot of work today.”
I shook my head no, my eyes never breaking focus with Davy’s. I loved this man so much. He could be the biggest bonehead like this afternoon and then be the sweetest, man alive like right now as he slid his hand inside my shorts to take them off. I raised up to let him sweep them down my body before he tossed them on the floor.
“Turn off the light,” I said to him.
Davy shook his head no. “Caz, my love. Not going to do that.”
I was shocked that he had refused.
“You are going to be my wife in three weeks. Get over it. I want to see you, Caz…all of you.”
I licked my lips. He didn’t know how hard this was for me. The girls in middle school used to make fun of my ass and boobs. I changed last to avoid them. Mom used to tell me how much prettier I would be if I just lost a little weight. I swallowed hard.
“But Davy,” I said and got no further.
He shook his head no and cut me off. “But nothing Caz.” He smiled at me. Then he lifted my top until I had no choice but to let him remove it. It disappeared over the side of the bed too.
He gazed at me like he had never seen me before. If Davy saw me completely naked it was because he walked in the bedroom. I usually hurry scurried into the closet with something to put on to cover myself.
His hands were rough as he caressed down my neck and over my breasts. “I’m a lucky man,” he said. Then he dipped his head to the tip of my breast and touched his tongue to my nipple. I moaned. His mouth was sending tingles down lower to my belly and beyond.
His dark eyes glanced up at my face. He smirked at me. “You like that,” he declared.
I did.
Man, I really did.
He rolled me over to my stomach. “On your knees, pretty, girl.” I cringed. I hated this position and Davy knew it. “Now,” he commanded. His tone was deep and forceful. I couldn’t help but wonder what had gotten into him.
My Davy was laid back and calm. He was never forceful or demanding. He was a fixer. A good lover but not commanding. No, he had never ordered me on my knees before.
I did as Davy told me and slid my knees beneath me, forcing my ass in the air. I peeked over my shoulder and Davy was unbuttoning his shirt while staring at my ass.
“Don’t you move,” he said.
How did he know that I wanted to do just that very thing?
His shirt hung open as he slid off the bed revealing his cut muscles and chest sprinkled with fine hair. I loved to run my fingers through Davy’s chest hair.
He let his pants fall to the floor and I heard the clanking of his belt buckle. I peeked over my shoulder just as his hand slid softly over my ass. “I love this ass,” he informed me. Then he struck me. Not hard, but enough to leave a handprint, I gathered from the stinging sensation on my butt. I gasped.
Davy’s head dipped to my butt cheek and he pressed his lips to the spot that burned. His tongue cooled the flames licking at my skin.
Is this something that Davy likes? Do I like it? Then he smacked my ass again in the exact same spot. “Caz,” he said.
“What?” I managed to gasp.
“You are mine, do you understand that?”
“Ye…ye…yes, I do,” I managed to mumble through my lust filled haze.
“Are you sure?” He asked me. His fingers were tracing over the burning spot on my butt.
“I’m sure.”
“Because, I’m not going to lose the best thing that ever happened to me. I’m warning you now. You are mine. There is no other woman in my heart but you. No other man will ever touch you like this.”
Where had this Davy come from?
He slapped my butt again and I purred like a kitten. His fingers dove between my legs and I almost slid to the mattress in a heap.
“You are so wet, Caz. You’re ready for me aren’t you, honey?” He asked. His voice was so smooth like melted butter.
I was. I am. I wanted him balls deep in me, right now. Right this very minute. I couldn’t find the words though to answer
him.
“Answer me, Caz.”
My mild mannered nerdy boy who could think of only key performance indicators and what grade of steel to use for which contract was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
He was acting like an alpha male that I had read about in my romance novels. I was floored or would have been had I been standing.
“I am ready for you Davy.”
His finger stroked me a few times.
“I thought so, baby,” he responded.
Then he slapped my ass again with his finger inside me. I rested my forehead against the cool quilt. My breathing was erratic. At times, I was holding my breath anticipating Davy’s next move.
“Breathe sweetheart,” he told me. “I don’t want you passing out on me.”
His hand smoothed over the heated spot that he had created on my skin. “This is my ass,” he repeated. “No one will ever touch it again but me. Got that?”
I nodded.
“Good girl,” he said stroking between my legs. I moaned into our new linens.
“I will do with this ass whatever I want, Caz.”
Davy kept stroking me filling my body with need to find an orgasm. So desperate. So needy. So drunk on desire, I hadn’t even heard him.
“Caz,” he snapped. “Did you hear me?”
“No,” I cried. “I didn’t.”
He withdrew his finger. “Can you hear me now?” Davy asked.
“I can.”
Please don’t do that again, I begged silently.
“This ass is mine to do with whatever I want,” he was talking but I swear I’m not sure what he said. “Touch.” He caressed my skin then I felt his hard cock along the crack of my ass and my eyes flew open.
I didn’t know Davy had removed his boxers. When? How? I didn’t understand but that sensual movement along my body made me shiver. “Maybe someday, I’ll even take this ass.”
My head turned, and my eyes shot to Davy’s face. I was morbidly curious about that idea. What would it feel like? No man had ever asked or wanted to do that to me. I couldn’t breathe.
Finally, I said, “I want you inside me, please Davy.” I wanted the torment to end.
“Patience, babe,” he replied.
I had no patience right now. Every nerve ending in my body was screaming for relief. I laid my forehead against my palms and tried inhaling and exhaling. Then I felt his lips against my aching center and I knew I couldn’t take much more.
“Davy,” I moaned his name.
His tongue snaked inside me and I almost shot forward. We had great sex before, but this was different. This was hot. This was dirty. This was Davy showing me that I was desirable with or without the lights on. Preferably with the lights on was his preference.
His tongue touched my clit and circled it, caressing it until I was moaning. I twirled my own nipple between my fingers and he groaned at me. “That’s it baby.” His voice was deep and hoarse like he was as on fire as I was.
His big hands gripped my butt cheeks while his tongue lapped between my legs like he was starving. I was trying to hold my body still but the sensations he was causing in me were just too much. My hips swayed with every motion of his tongue against my burning skin.
I came and when I did I wanted to collapse against the comforter. My legs were that weak. My heart was slamming against the wall of my chest and I was gasping for air.
“Stay on your knees, babe.”
I couldn’t. At least, I didn’t think I could. Then Davy slid inside me, slowly and deliberately. He filled me, and I gripped the comforter in my fists. His body slapped against mine. Touching me deep inside.
I needed this.
I needed to feel like…just like this. Like I had been taken. Like Davy couldn’t get enough of me. Then he stopped moving and gently turned me to my back. He leaned over me and his lips barely touched mine. His eyes never left my face.
Davy grasped my legs and held them open while he thrust into my body. Usually, I would feel self-conscious about my breasts bouncing around. I did. I covered them, and he pushed my hands away.
“No, you don’t,” he said. “You no longer hide from me.”
His arms caged me between them while he thrust inside me. I held his waist pushing him harder and faster.
His shirt was still on. I ran my hands up to his shoulders and slid it off. He stopped long enough to toss it aside. Then he moved me to the center of the bed and covered me with himself.
“I love you Caz Chapman. Have I proved that tonight?” He asked.
I nodded. Then I caressed his cheek lovingly. He slid back inside me, moving agonizingly slow. Teasing me. Torturing me with his body. His loving.
“No more doubts?”
“None,” I replied.
“Good,”
When he got close, Davy was thrusting hard seeking what I had already experienced. Euphoria. I clutched Davy’s butt in my hands, digging my nails into the hardness of his muscles and flesh. He groaned at me.
His muscles tightened. His beautiful face contorted with pleasure as it washed over him, taking him to places that were pure Heaven and Hell because they just didn’t last long enough.
Davy collapsed holding me close. His breathing coming in short gasps. He caressed my hair. Then he shook his head. “I’m surprised but I love it,” he told me before kissing me.
I pushed him off me. “I have to pee.”
I slid to the edge of the bed self-consciously. I rose and hesitated, looking around for his shirt to hide inside. I glanced over my shoulder and Davy was propped up on his elbows watching me.
“Caz, I love everything, and I mean everything about your body. Stop hiding it from me.”
I inhaled sharply. Gathered my courage and walked across the bedroom to the bathroom door. I looked over my shoulder to see if he was still looking at me. He was.
In that moment, I could see how much Davy loved me and I was surprised that I had ever doubted him.
When I came back from the bathroom, Davy was under the covers. He was looking at his phone. When he saw me, he laid it on the nightstand and lifted the blankets for me. I slid in beside him and rested my head against his chest. His fingers slid over my bare shoulder.
“You okay?” He asked.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” I glanced up at him. He looked down at me and touched my cheek.
“I’ve never done anything like that to you before. Never been forceful. Suggestive. Rough,” he added. “And dirty.”
He was right. I wouldn’t want him to be that way all the time, but I didn’t think he wanted sex like that all the time either.
“You want to dominate me like that sometimes?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied. “I want you to trust me enough with your body to be open to showing you that you are beautiful whether we’re making love tenderly or like tonight with a little kink.”
I nodded.
“So, you’re okay?” He asked again.
“I’m okay,” I replied.
More than okay. I liked the idea of exploring new things with Davy. Testing boundaries. Being rough as he called it or making sweet tender love. Lights on and with the lights off.
I snuggled closer to him and he kissed the top of my head. “I love you, Davy.”
“Three more weeks, Caz. You’re mine officially, legally for always. You’ll never get rid of me.”
I chuckled. “Are you afraid I’m going to get away?”
“Let’s just say I’ll be happier when we’re pronounced man and wife.”
Chapter 5
When Davy and I got serious, I returned to Severe. Lacey and I grew up in the next township over, but we went to Severe schools. I was only a year older than Cam Baird so I kind of knew who she was when I met the Bairds at the hospital the day that Machara gave birth to the twins then passed away from complications in the recovery room.
I was with Finlay in the NICU when another nurse got the news that Machara had died. I had to take him to the conference room where
the doctors told Finlay what had happened to his young wife.
That was difficult. It was something that we shared. Something that we never talked about. He knew that it had affected me. Not as much as he was affected but it hurt. No one wants to lose a young mother after the birth of her child. No one ever wants to lose a patient period.
I worked daily with premature babies that struggled to survive. There were days when it took its toll on me. On my psyche. It was difficult to watch these little ones fight to live when in another area of the hospital another might be throwing their life away having come to the hospital overdosed. These babies touched me. They were so small, but they were the hardest fighters I had ever seen that had destroyed some of the best nurses. Ours was not an easy job.
Then I met Davy at one of our town’s social events. He was single then and we instantly hit it off. We were inseparable after a month. He asked me if I had thought about moving back to Severe since I was making so many trips back and forth between downtown Cincinnati and my hometown. So, I did. Lacey and Davy were in Severe, it just made sense.
He seemed to be in a hurry. When I moved home, it was into his house. By Christmas were engaged and planning our wedding for April. Then just months before our wedding, Lacey disappeared because of Brodie’s shooting. He was paralyzed until therapy got him back on his feet. He found out my sister was pregnant and groveled until she came home.
I clicked the pen in my hand against my teeth. I had the computer screen pulled up to a patient I should be charting.
I worked three, twelve hour shifts at County in the neo-natal unit. Pretty much what I was doing at the hospital where Finlay’s twins were born.
Davy wasn’t like his other brothers who were afraid of commitment. He wanted a wife. He was ready for a family. He was good with his nieces. He would be just as comfortable and loving with our nephew coming in a few months.
I could see why he was thinking does she want to marry me? He and Georgie had postponed their wedding so that Machara and Fin could get married. He never said why they broke up, just that they both agreed it was a good thing they had.
I wondered if he had ever acted the way he had last night with Georgie? I closed my eyes and I could see him all nerdiness aside. All manliness in full throttle. My Davy was one of those sexy, nerdy boys. He took off his glasses and Clark Kent became my Superman. I sighed.
