Some of the wet stuff dripped into Katie’s mouth. Yum! It hadn’t been the magic wind at all. It was whipped cream. Kadeem had thrown a handful of it at her when she wasn’t looking.

Katie was really glad she was going to be herself for a while. Especially when there was pie around. “Mmm ...” Katie giggled as she scraped some pie off her cheek and tasted it. “Banana cream. My favorite!”

  Spiceup Your Sneakers

George and Suzanne were really proud of their new sneakers. But Katie and Jeremy had been wearing the same old sneaks for a long time. Their running shoes had started to look run-down. Luckily, they knew exactly how to fancy up their footwear. Now you can too!

Just be sure to get your parents’ permission before you start.

  You will need:

  A pencil

  Glitter

  Fabric paints

  Newspaper

  Your sneakers (of course!)

  Here’s what you do:

Spread the newspaper out on a table. Use the pencil to draw a design on your sneakers. Here are some ideas:A shooting star like the one Katie wished on.

  A soccer ball—that’s Jeremy’s favorite design.

Lightning bolts to show just how fast you can run!

Use the fabric paint to color in your drawing. Just remember, fabric paint is permanent. Once it’s on your sneaker, it’s there for good.

If, like Suzanne, you want to add some sparkle to your sneaks, try mixing some glitter into your fabric paint before you use it.

Okay! Ready? On your mark, get set, PAINT!
