Falling for Love

They all jumped in with telling Gwyneth that she was a fantastic mom and was not to blame for Gerry’s actions. Dave hugged her and bathed her in tiny kisses. Emmy lowered her head on Jordan’s shoulder and squeezed her tight.
After some moments of silence, Dave said with gusto, “Time to celebrate. We can’t let this spoil the mood. Let’s get these pictures done and get the party started. There is lots of fun to be had tonight. Lots to celebrate. One is that I am now a stepfather who is very proud of all his children, especially you, Jordan. That is if you’ll have me as a dad.”
The sincere words warmed Jordan, and she smirked. “Absolutely, Pops!”
“That makes me sound old, but it does have a nice ring to it.”
They began to line up for the photos. Of course, Gwyneth and Emmy insisted on several angles, and it took some time with the Lange clan.
In the banquet tent, Jordan was relaxed through the customary toasts and speeches. The positive energy had made her swell with pride. People gathered to pass by the couples to express congratulations before the music and dancing began. Carter and Angie approached with their children. Anne and her oldest, Gerry Jr., seventeen, and Margaret, fifteen, were right behind them. Jordan was happy but anxious and wondered what Anne would say. Her head swirled, and she fought to relax her body. Anne had spoken religiously but respectfully at Jordan’s birthday party. Still, she had no idea what was coming next.
“Congratulations to you both.” Anne leaned in and lightly hugged them. “I know we have different views, but I have no ill will toward either of you. Only God can judge people, and only God can see your true heart and feelings. You gave an oath today pledging your love to one another. I wish you both peace.” Anne looked at her children before returning her gaze back to Jordan and Emmy. “I want my children to grow up confident in their beliefs but willing to see the point of view of those who think differently. I don’t want them to blindly follow. I want them to listen to God and think for themselves. Through God’s love, I am confident we will find the right path. We may disagree, but we don’t have to be ill-mannered.”
Anne hugged them each again, and the kids stepped up and did the same. Margaret smiled wide but said nothing. Gerry Jr. was a pensive and serious teenager. “I wish you well,” he said softly. To everyone’s surprise, he cracked a smile. “You always were one of the most adventurous relatives, Aunt Jordan. I admire your courage.”
Jordan was overtaken by his words, and the tears welled up in her eyes. While she tried to brush them away, Gerry Jr. removed a linen handkerchief and held it out to her. At that point, the emotions hit a high point. She hugged them all again and let the tears flow.
As they began to walk away, Anne stopped and returned. She leaned in so close that Jordan could feel her breath. “I never knew about the phone calls until Reverend Anderson stopped by to talk,” she whispered. “I’m sorry that Gerry again chose to harass, but I hope you can forgive him one day.” She took a deep breath, and her hands tightened around Jordan’s arms. “He has a few problems, but deep down there is still some good in him. We’re getting him help.”
Jordan felt sadness as she walked away. She didn’t know where Anne found the strength to go on with the marriage, but she had to admire her dedication.
Emmy rubbed her shoulder. “Let’s have some fun. I’ve been longing for our first dance together as a married couple.”
The entire evening was a whirl. Jordan had never received so many hugs and kisses. The festivities, dancing, and liquor flowed into the night. Dave and Gwyneth bid goodbye around nine, but no one would let Emmy and Jordan leave. Although exhausted, they were easily talked into more dancing. After another hour, Emmy announced to the crowd, “I’m tired, and my feet are killing me. Plus, I really want my sweetie to take me home.”
Folks hollered, and several patted Jordan on the back as they tried to make their way through the crowd. Laughter erupted as someone yelled, “Better take her home, Jordan, before she changes her mind.”
Jordan grinned and gazed at her lovely wife. Simply exquisite, she thought and leaned over to nuzzle her and caress her cheek. This caused louder howling and cheering. It took them several minutes to walk through the partygoers.
At home, Jordan passionately kissed Emmy before Emmy broke away and giggled. “Are you going to take my virtue in the vehicle or inside?”
“Um, let me think a minute.” She leaned in to kiss her again.
“As I recall, you once pointed out the bedroom offered more maneuverable positions.”
Jordan hopped out of the SUV like she was on fire and ushered Emmy into the house. “Welcome home, Mrs. Russo-Simón. After you.”
“Why thank you, Mrs. Russo-Simón, especially for being my wife.”
Emmy kicked off her shoes first thing and faced Jordan. Her look was seductive, and her voice flowed like honey. “Can you help me get out of this dress?”
Jordan kissed her neck while unzipping the dress. “I know we’re fatigued, but I’m going to take you to bed, send you over the edge of pleasure, and caress you to sleep in my arms. First, close your eyes.”
Emmy gave her a puzzled look but did as told and Jordan gently took her beloved’s hand and guided her to their bedroom. As they entered, the sweet scent of roses wafted through the air.
“Open your eyes.”
Several vases of roses and candles were arranged around the room, giving off a heavenly scent.
“Welcome home, my wife. I love you.”
