  ‘It’s a made-up story, idiot.’ He shook his head. ‘And you’ve just wrecked it.’

  The girl looked at Thomas, but he didn’t say anything.

  The group broke up pretty soon after that. The girl made a swift decision and said as casually as she could, ‘Is anyone going my way?’

  Only Thomas nodded. She looked at him and said, ‘Don’t tell me any more stories on the way, OK?’

  Thomas inclined his big head. He said, ‘One was enough.’

  Together, they vanished into the dark.
