"What happened next?" I waved a hand at my notes. "You left me hanging."

"At least you know I survived."

I furrowed my brow at her. "I already knew that much. Just not how."

  "Now you know."

"But I'm missing so much. How did Quentin get there in time? How did he escape the shadow assassins? What about Suyef? Your brother? The facility? Were you able to find anything using that program? Was that the reason they attacked?" I glanced at my notes. "And what was making all that racket at the prison? How did you end up here? How are you a friend of the queen?"

Micaela didn't answer. She turned and walked towards the exit.

“Can you at least tell me if you found out if Donovan was right?” I asked.

She stopped halfway to the door and looked back over her shoulder.

  “Yes, he was,” she said.

“So where were they?” I asked. “Did they ever go to a prison?”

“My father did, yes,” she said, her voice quiet.

I frowned. “And what about your mother? And your sister?”

“That answer lay elsewhere,” she answered and began moving toward the door again.

"Do you need a break?" I called after her.

She paused in the doorway and looked over her shoulder at me.

"You need answers from someone else now."

I shook my head. "Who? Quentin? Where is he?"

"Ask Suyef," she whispered and walked out.

  The End of Rise: Tears

  A Note to the Reader

My thanks for reading this first novella in a series I’ve been working on for two decades. Much has changed since I first began and it makes me so happy that people like you took the time to join me on discovering this world and these people. Be sure to check out the sequel novellas on Amazon as they come available. Also, I would be very much in your debt if you could take just a few moments and leave a review. It really does help spread the word on this story. Again, thanks for reading my work and I hope you continue to enjoy the series as it unfolds.
