“Cash, we have an issue,” Daniel says from the doorway. The apologetic look on his face tells me I’m not going to be happy about this.

“What is it? I was just getting ready to leave.” I try not to sound pissy with him. It’s not his fault I’ve got blue balls for days and am pining for a girl whom I still can’t decide if she likes me or not. Jesus, I sound like a twelve year old boy. I’m wound tighter than a virgin pussy and need to get the hell out of this office. I don’t know if it’s from lack of sex or the fact that after spending time with Jase and Hap, the normal people I surround myself with seem to grate my nerves a little more than they used to.

“The big Miles account is about to slip through the cracks.”

“What big Miles account?” I ask, not pleased about hearing that name in my place of business. “Since when do we work with the Miles Company?” I question more aggressively than I should.

“They hired us two weeks ago. You’ve been distracted and gone on weekends so Henry and I took care of it. Seemed like a slam dunk, but now they’re threatening to pull. It’s a million dollar account, Cash.” His genuine concern for the company is appreciated but fucking Miles and Miles? Have I been that distracted?

“What do they want?” I ask, almost not wanting to hear the answer.

“Mr. Miles is in Europe this week. He’s requested a meeting with the CEO of the company. That’s you, my friend. Lisa has your flight booked. You leave tonight at 9:00 pm and will return Sunday night. Sorry.”

“And I’m just now fucking hearing about this?”

“It just happened. Literally in the past fifteen minutes.” He shrugged before walking away. Son of a bitch. This doesn’t feel right. I haven’t heard from Hannah in weeks. How can I be so stupid to think a woman like her would just go away? Leaning back in my chair, I gather the courage to call Cara and cancel our first date. Jesus, she’s going to be pissed.

Slowly I punch Sheila’s number into my phone and sit back waiting for someone to pick up.

“Hello,” Sheila greets on the other end.

“Hi, Sheila. This is Cash, Cara… uh, Jewel’s friend.”

  “I know who you are.”

“Can I possibly speak to her please?”

“Sure, hang on just a second.” I hear her put the phone down and call for Cara, only she calls out “Jewel, Cash is on the phone for you.” A few minutes go by before I finally hear her voice.

“Hi, Cash, is everything okay? I wasn’t expecting to hear from you until Saturday.”

“Hi, it’s so good to hear your voice. I should really call you more often.” I mean what I say. I know I miss her during the week but damn, just listening to her talk reinforces that. She giggles in response making my heart flutter. I continue. “Things are okay but I have to reschedule dinner.”

“Oh,” she replies, the disappointment I hear is like a stab to the gut.

“I hate doing that and I’m honestly pretty pissed off about it. It seems some of my guys here made a deal with the largest law firm in town without notifying me. Now he’s got a stick up his ass or something and is demanding to meet with me in Europe. I fly out tonight.” I really hope she hears the sincere apology I’m trying to convey to her. “I really don’t want to go.”

“It’s okay. I understand. It’s business. Another day.” She sounds sad but not angry, thank God.

“Definitely, I’ll call you when I get back if that’s okay.” Talking to her takes me back to high school and the first time I called the first girl I had a crush on.

“Sure, we can reschedule then.” I can imagine her smiling as she speaks. I love her smile.

“Talk soon.” I might just have to call her when I get to Europe. Waiting until I get back might be too long. I won’t be seeing her for another week, the least I need is to hear her voice.

  “Bye, Cash,” she says sweetly.

“Bye, Cara.” I hang up the phone still angry but feel better knowing she’s not mad. I make a quick call letting Gran know then head out to pack my shit.

Two hours later, I’m flying to Europe. This better be worth my damn time but something tells me I’m about to be royally screwed by this family, and I have no one to blame but myself.

I land in the UK, tired as shit and wanting nothing more than my hotel and a bed for a few hours. Instead I’m greeted with a man holding a sign with my name on it.

“I’m Cash Green,” I say approaching him.

“Oh, good to meet you, sir. Come with me, the boss is waiting for you.” He begins to walk away, thinking he’s leading me.

“Um, I’d like to get to my hotel, clean up a bit,” I say, refusing to follow.

“No time. Sorry. The boss has ordered me to bring you directly there the moment you land.”

“Tell your boss to screw off. I’ll meet with him later.” I turn to walk the other way, but the stranger grabs my arm. “With all due respect, Mr. Green, she doesn’t take kindly to waiting and I really don’t want to be the one to tell her that I failed to deliver you as requested.” I can see concern and fear in the man’s eyes. Did he say, she? Fuck, this is making sense now.

“Did you just say she? Who am I meeting with anyway?” I ask the question I already know the answer to.

“Hannah Miles of course. Were you not informed?” he asks inquiringly.

“Uh, no I was not informed.” I take a moment to gather my thoughts. I should have known Hannah would be here. She’s behind this entire merger. Dammit.

“Fine, take me to your boss. This should be fun.” Relieved the man turns and walks away, and I follow close behind him. The fury that is building up is hard to contain. I can’t wait to lay eyes on that woman.

I slip into the back of the man’s limo and prepare for the longest drive of my life. Any other time I’d admire the passing scenery. I’ve always loved the UK. However, I’m too preoccupied thinking up all the ways I’m going to tell Hannah off. When we pull up outside of a small cottage, I don’t wait for the driver to let me out. Slamming the car door I hightail it straight up the front steps, not taking time or manners to stop and knock on the large door. Luck is on my side because the door is unlocked, giving me quick entrance.

“Hannah, where the hell are you?” I call out from the entryway, stopping for a minute to observe the layout of the house.

“Back here, Cash,” Hannah calls from the back of the small cottage. Seconds later, I’m face to face with her. I shouldn’t be surprised to find her sitting in a small study, surrounded by books, completely nude. “What the hell is going on here, Hannah?”

“Well, that’s no way to greet a friend,” she replies, uncrossing then re-crossing her legs.

“You’re right, but we’re not friends. This is ridiculous. I flew all the way here for what? Because you got your goddamn feelings hurt?”

“No, didn’t they tell you? I hired 3 Green as Miles and Miles personal marketing firm. It’s a huge account Mr. Green, and I’m not happy with the service.”

“I don’t need your money, Hannah. I sure as hell don’t want it.” I turn to walk away from her, finding no reason to waste another minute in her presence. I’m nearly to the door, fucking pissed as shit and definitely feeling the need to punch something. I have to get out of this house, outside, by a tree or something firm to take the brunt of my anger.

Just before my hand lands on the doorknob I hear her voice behind me, “I’m pregnant, Cash. You might want to stay and fucking listen.”

Just like that my entire fucking world imploded on me.
