One Day in December
Page 33
A. I had a pretty clear idea where I wanted them all to end up and of a couple of the major plot points along the way, but beyond that it took quite a winding path that evolved as I wrote it. They’re all very individual characters, and there were definitely times when they surprised me!
Q. As an author who loves to read and write romance, are there any love stories—fictional or from your own life—that influenced you?
A. I’m a great fan of Jojo Moyes, so Me Before You comes to mind first, and I also really adored Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife. They both have this sweeping, epic feel, and that’s something that always appeals to me in a book.
Q. What do you hope readers will take away from One Day in December?
A. I hope that readers find One Day in December relatable, and that they feel immersed in Laurie and Jack’s world while they read it. Afterward, I’d love it to leave people with a feeling of hope and the idea that love often happens when you least expect it.
