Daylight robbery
*19 Not a success. Not only can the Nose not count, but she can’t draw either. Even a short-sighted mole wearing bottle-bottom spectacles in a dark room would be able to tell that the Nose’s forged banknotes were fakes.
*20 This was a cockroach from the species Yoosta robber banksii. Rare, ugly and now extinct.
*21 I look it up later, though. It’s a warthog, the animal least likely to win any beauty contests. Ugly and mean. A perfect fit for Craig.
The Hisses swap
*22 Every mirror in Arkon House is broken. Each time the Sisters of Hiss look in a mirror, they break it. This is probably not because they’re beautiful.
A spell of good weather
*23 These are a permanent side-effect of one of the Chin’s earliest spells. She’d been playing ‘This little piggy’ with her sisters and couldn’t resist showing off.
Finally, spotless
*24 Nope. With breath as bad as Annabel’s, I can’t believe she ever uses any kind of toothbrush, frozen or not.
