“Hey,” Asher said, appearing along with Meow as I walked down Cove Drive, clutching my secrets as tightly as my fingers gripped my notebook. “It got late, so I thought I’d come check to see how you were doing.”

I swallowed as my gaze darted over to him. “Oh, I lost track of time. That library has to be one of my favorite places.”

Asher furrowed his brow as he watched me. “You didn’t check anything out?” He peered at my book-free arms.

“Finished the book I was reading, actually. No need to check it out.” I laughed in a way I hoped didn’t sound fake.

“Okay. Ready to go home? I hoped we might start a new book tonight.”

This time I smiled for real, anticipating about how Asher and I would take turns with the different character voices as I turned the pages and he read over my shoulder.

“That sounds perfect.” I glanced down at Meow. “I wish you could join us, buddy.”

The ex-mayor flicked his ears and tail as if saying, It’s okay, I’m happy here. In keeping with feline aloofness, he was an independent soul and didn’t mind being on his own.

Before we left for home, I leaned down and said, “I hear Whiskers is doing a fantastic job as the new mayor.”

At that, the big tabby looked up at me, and I swear he grinned.

  Next in the series:

Follow Rosemary and Asher as their story continues in the next installment of Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries …

Pebble Cove is home to more than just fishermen, Victorian houses, and coastal beauty. It also harbors long running feuds and buried secrets.

When a local man drops dead after drinking a matcha tea latte, Rosemary Woodmere suspects fowl play. As a witness to the murder, she’s called in for questioning.

At the station she meets a new ghost and learns the town’s police force has a dark past when it comes to covering up murder. She might be off the hook, but can she let the case go when she fears the police might be repeating history?

To make things even more difficult, Rosemary’s life with ghosts is getting complicated. While she searches for the truth about how Asher died, Rosemary attempts to help a local spirit encountering her own difficulties with her death. And while a little ghostly help might give Rosemary a leg up in this case, will it be enough when she comes face to face with the real killer?
