“Fine. One human female. Of Olivia’s choosing. But I don’t like it.”
Baxter shrugged. “It’s not like you were going to tell her no anyway. You never do.”
Great. Everyone in the pack knew his mate had him pussy-whipped. Just what an Alpha wanted to hear.
Baxter nudged his shoulder. “You know that we all respect you, Alpha. Just because you cater to your mate doesn’t lower you in our eyes. If anything, I think everyone is happy that you’re completely in love with Olivia, and that she obviously loves you. It gives them hope that maybe one day they’ll find the same thing.”
“Yeah, I love her.”
Baxter winked. “So we all hear nearly every night. Might want to soundproof that bedroom of yours.”
Torren snorted. “Since when do wolves care about hearing someone have sex?”
“Oh, it doesn’t bother anyone. But hearing Olivia cry out like that? Tends to make the males a little… horny. Just saying.”
Torren groaned and shook his head. Another item to add to his growing to-do list. Soundproof their bedroom. Probably not a bad idea with a little one on the way. The last thing he’d want would be to wake up the baby because he couldn’t keep his hands off his mate.
“I’ll get someone on it,” Baxter said. “Now go save your mate before Lincoln nearly squeezes her in half. He’s like an exuberant puppy, and Olivia is his favorite person in the entire world.”
“Mine too,” Torren said as he went to save his mate.
He pulled her out of Lincoln’s arms and the pup’s cheeks flushed as he backed away, baring his throat. “I didn’t mean to offend you, Alpha.”
“You didn’t. Go enjoy the celebration, Lincoln.”
Torren nibbled the side of Olivia’s neck. “Have I told you thank you?”
“For what?”
“For coming into my life. For accepting me. For loving me.”
She leaned into his embrace. “I would do it all over again, if it meant finding my way to you. The ugly fights with my parents. Moving out so young. Nearly dying. I’d go through it all again just to have a chance to be with you.”
“You’re my second chance, Olivia. My fated mate, the one woman who was always meant to be mine. And I will be thankful for you every day for the rest of my life, and love you even longer.”
She kissed him softly then dragged him into the middle of the gathering. But she held his hand a little tighter, and he knew that she felt the same. He thanked the gods every night and every morning for bringing her into his life. And when his son or daughter was born, he’d thank them even more. Olivia had breathed life back into him, and given him something he’d thought he’d never have. Love. And he would never take her love for granted.
Jessica Coulter Smith
Award-winning author Jessica Coulter Smith has been in love with the written word since she was a child writing her first stories in crayon. Today she’s a multi-published author of over seventy-five novellas and novels. Romance is an integral part of her world and spills over from her professional life into her personal one. When she went on that first date with her husband, she never expected to hear the words “marry me” pop out of his mouth -- and judging by the shocked look on his face, he hadn’t meant to say them either. But, being the hopeless romantic that she is, Jessica said yes and they’ve been married since 2000.
Jessica firmly believes that love will find you at the right time, even if Mr. Right is literally out of this world. She’s often gazed at the stars and wondered what, or who, else might be out there. Who’s to say that hunky model on the hottest romance bestseller isn’t really from some far off galaxy? Maybe that blue Martian you saw at Halloween wasn’t really in costume. After all, there’s an awful lot of space out there for us to be the only ones living in it.
