Reflections of a Superfluous Mind 2

by Marvin Perkins

He thought about how it used to be, running free on the plains of Africa, wishing he could be there once more.

His home now was a hellish ten by twelve cage, bars and a floor, placed on public display and shame.

And all the silly humans who came to gawk at him, the king of all beasts, seemed to know his name.

The children would say, “Clarence, you look funny, why are your eyes crossed? What's wrong with you?”

Then everyone would laugh and point, he would die inside, and feel oh so blue.

Finally one day he could no longer take the sadness that had torn his world apart.

So he just cried himself to sleep that night, and died of a broken heart.

  The Measure of a Man

The measure of a man is colored in shades of honesty and integrity.

The key to his worth is not in dollars and cents but in his loyalty.

Give me a man who will stand by me through thick and thin, he is a giant in my eyes.

One that will always speak the truth no matter what, and never lie.

A Godly man with a hammer in one and the Good Book in the other hand.

Even if he doesn't have a penny in his pocket or a dollar in the bank, he is still a rich man.
