Sawyer

When she finally settled, Sawyer grabbed a condom from his pocket before dropping his jeans to the floor. He quickly sheathed himself and then pulled her back to her feet, leading her around to the chair once again. He sat, turning her to face him, and this time he worked his cock inside of her as she straddled him.

“Now ride me, Kennedy,” he said, watching her face. Her eyes were glazed, but she was with him. “Make yourself come on my cock.”

He should’ve been prepared for how incredible it would be to have her bouncing up and down on his dick, but Sawyer barely managed to hang on long enough for her to come first. When she did, he lifted her off him, then stood. Turning her to face the counter, he pressed his hand to the middle of her back. “Lean over. And hold on, baby. I’m gonna fuck you hard.”

Kennedy’s hands gripped the countertop and Sawyer didn’t hesitate, thrusting into her in one smooth movement, burying himself deep as he sucked in a breath. Her pussy clamped down on him and he growled. He’d waited so long to have her, and now, he wasn’t sure he’d ever get enough. But he knew without a doubt that he wasn’t going to quit trying until they were both too damn tired to move.

“Fuck yes,” he growled, slamming into her over and over. “So good, Kennedy. So damn good, baby.”

“Harder,” she pleaded, her arms locking as she pushed back against him.

His thighs were on fire as he bent his legs, but the sweet heaven of her pussy was worth all the pain. He fucked her hard and fast, until he was dripping with sweat and his balls had drawn up tight to his body.

“I’m gonna come, Kennedy,” he warned her, driving his hips forward, going deeper each time. He fought his release for as long as he could, and then when he felt her pussy clamp down, her scream signaling her climax, he came hard. Harder than he thought possible.

It took a few minutes for him to come back to himself, and when he did, he found that he was leaning over her, his hands wrapped around her, cupping her breasts.

  “Kennedy?”

  “Huh?”

“I think you broke my dick, baby,” he said seriously.

  She laughed.

“Oh, hell, don’t do that,” he uttered, chuckling as her body tightened, trying to force him out until he had no choice but to back up, his spent cock slipping from inside her.

Kennedy stood, grabbing her robe from the counter and slipping it on. He would’ve preferred she remain naked.

“Now can I have breakfast?” she asked, grinning at him.

Sawyer disposed of the condom and grabbed his jeans. “Yes. But you’ve only got a few minutes before I get back.”

“Where are you going?” she asked quickly.

“You got your shower. Now it’s my turn to get mine.”

With that, he made his way to her bathroom. He figured he would shower, then they could eat, maybe chill for a little while. Whatever they did, he just wasn’t ready to leave, which meant he would probably have to work hard to distract her.

Which he didn’t have a problem doing.

As he stepped under the lukewarm spray, he was just glad he’d thought ahead and called Brendon when he woke up. He knew Buster was in good hands for a little while, which meant he could take as much time as he wanted with Kennedy.

Not a bad thing considering all the distractions he had in mind for her.

  chapter SEVENTEEN

Kennedy unlocked the veterinary office at seven o’clock on Monday morning, doing her best not to moan as she walked. There were muscles she had never used in her life that were protesting each step that she took. After yesterday, she wasn’t even sure how she was standing.

When she stepped inside, she flipped on the lights throughout and then detoured to the break room to start the coffee. Although she’d slept like a baby last night—alone—she still needed caffeine. She had too much to do that day, including interviews that would be starting in—Kennedy glanced up at the clock on the wall—an hour and a half.

  Crap.

She needed to print out the questions she would ask. She kept them on a document on her computer for future reference. She hadn’t figured she’d need them again this soon, but hell, at least she had them.

When the coffee finished, Kennedy poured a cup and then headed to her office, keeping the door open so she could hear Olivia when she came in. Their first appointment wouldn’t be until eight, and Olivia would arrive shortly before.

For the next forty-five minutes, Kennedy worked on her interview questions and checked the schedule for the day. She liked to know who was coming in and what they were coming in for so that she was prepared. Today appeared a little light, which was probably because Olivia was handling the appointments. Due to their reduced head count, it only made sense that they didn’t double-book anyone.

Her coffee had gone cold by the time she heard the bells chime when the front door opened, so she grabbed her cup and stepped out of her office, heading down the hall and to the front, smiling at Olivia when she found her dropping her things at the front desk.

  “Good mornin’,” Kennedy greeted.

“Oh, hey,” Olivia replied, glancing over her shoulder with a huge smile on her face.

“Did you have a good day off?”

“Yep. But probably not as good as you did, from what I hear.”

Kennedy stopped in her tracks, staring at her assistant, trying to figure out the meaning behind those words. Obviously her confused expression said enough because Olivia jumped into her explanation quickly.

“Word is that Sawyer Walker’s car was parked at your house this weekend.”

You have got to be kidding.

How the hell had that gotten around town so fast? Kennedy knew her face had turned beet red, but she couldn’t speak, not sure what she was supposed to say.

“Well, I promise, you won’t hear a peep out of me,” Olivia told her. “I’m happy for you, actually.”

“Why’s that?” Kennedy inquired, hoping to mask her surprise.

“Because . . .” Olivia glanced out the front doors into the parking lot before looking back at her. “Sawyer likes you, Kennedy.”

Well, she hoped he did. After what they’d done, it wouldn’t work for her if he didn’t, but she didn’t say as much.

“I thought you and Tim were gonna make it official there for a while,” Olivia said. “But that didn’t happen, for whatever reason.”

Kennedy could hear the inquisitiveness in Olivia’s tone and she understood it. Her relationship with Tim, which had lasted years longer than she’d ever thought it would, had fallen apart at the very end and Kennedy had refused to talk about it. With anyone. Not that she wanted to think about Tim now. He was a very nice guy and she didn’t have any regrets about the time they’d spent together, but after seeing him last night, she had no intention of going back. Truth was, over time, the chemistry between them had simply fizzled out. And Kennedy definitely couldn’t live without that sort of thing in a relationship.

Chemistry was the one thing she and Sawyer had. In spades.

“But seriously,” Olivia stated with a glowing grin, walking out from behind the reception desk. “Sawyer’s a good guy, no matter what the rumors say. I really think you need to give him a chance.”

“Did he pay you to say that?” Kennedy asked, acknowledging that her shock was showing, but she couldn’t help it.

Olivia snickered, her grin splitting her face. “No. And I wouldn’t take his money if he tried. I’m serious. I like him. But more importantly, I like him for you.”

Kennedy wasn’t sure what to say to that and she was grateful when a car pulled up into the lot. Their first appointment was there and right on time.

“I’m gonna grab some more coffee. I’ll meet Brendon in exam room one,” Kennedy informed Olivia before slipping down the hall.

Holy crap. She was breathing like she’d just sprinted a mile. Her worst fears had been realized and to think, it had only been one day since she’d given in to Sawyer. Now the rumors were star
ting, people mentioning that his car had been parked at her house. She was never going to live this down. As soon as he moved on, she was going to be talked about by everyone, but more than that, they would look at her with pity on their faces. Another one bites the dust, she could practically hear them saying already.

Shoving the thoughts to the far recesses of her mind, Kennedy made her way down the back hallway, choosing to come into the exam room through the employees-only door. She wasn’t sure she was going to be able to show her face in the waiting room knowing that everyone would probably know what had happened between her and Sawyer by the end of the day. She might not be able to show her face ever again.

Opening the door, she stepped into the room, noticing Scrap bouncing up and down on the floor. She immediately looked up, ready to greet Brendon, but she realized she wasn’t looking at Brendon.

“Jessie. Hey,” Kennedy said, surprised to see the other woman.

“Mornin’,” Jessie greeted. “Sorry, he’s a little hyper today.”

“No worries,” Kennedy said, grabbing Scrap’s file and setting it on the counter before squatting down beside the anxious little mutt. “How’re you doin’, boy?”

She was welcomed by a lick to her cheek as Scrap stood on his hind legs, resting his front paws on her knee. “He’s just here for shots, right?” Kennedy asked, snatching Scrap up in her arms and lifting him onto the exam table.

“Yep. Brendon said he’s doin’ great.”

“Why didn’t he come?” Kennedy questioned, just trying to make small talk. “Not that I’m not happy to see you.”

Jessie laughed. “He had a job early this mornin’. He mentioned it, I offered. You know how it goes.”

“Well, Scrap’s lucky to have you,” Kennedy said, not meeting the other woman’s gaze as she gave Scrap a quick once-over.

Five minutes later, Scrap was ready to go. Kennedy had administered his vaccinations, bringing him current. Since there weren’t any issues, not much conversation took place and Kennedy followed Jessie out through the front door of the exam room and into the waiting area. Olivia was sitting at the desk looking flustered already.

The phone was ringing, but Olivia was on one of the lines, so Kennedy stepped over to the extra phone on the wall after excusing herself from Jessie. She placed the caller on hold and returned to the front, watching as Olivia slipped toward the back, mumbling that she’d be back in just a second.

When the phone rang again, Kennedy was just about to slide around the counter to get it, but surprisingly, Jessie beat her to it.

“Hometown Animal Center,” Jessie greeted the caller in an overly cheery voice. “Absolutely. Give me just a sec and I’ll pull up the schedule. I’m gonna put you on hold for a minute, so don’t disappear on me.”

Kennedy stared back at the other woman, her mouth hanging open.

“Sorry,” Jessie said quickly, grabbing one of the notepads on the counter and jotting down something quickly.

“I don’t suppose you’re lookin’ for a job, are you?” Kennedy blurted.

Jessie’s eyes slid up to hers. “Actually . . .”

Kennedy’s eyebrows shot up into her hair as she waited for Jessie to continue.

Jessie cleared her throat and continued, “Actually, I am. Kylie’s cut back to only part-time work, which means we don’t have much to do. Her attention is mostly on Kate, as it should be. While she focuses on Cheyenne’s place, I’ve forwarded the calls to my cell phone, but really, I don’t have much else to do.”

“Are you serious? Please tell me you’re serious,” Kennedy found herself saying.

Jessie smiled, a motion that lit up her entire face. “I’d be happy to help out,” Jessie said, glancing around. “Are you lookin’ for someone?”

“I’m lookin’ for two someones actually,” Kennedy told her truthfully. “My other technician left, and our receptionist just informed me she was going back to school, and never came back. So Olivia and I are scramblin’ to cover it all ourselves.”

“Well, I’ve got some mad telephone skills,” Jessie said, glancing down at the phone. “But I’ll probably need a little training. Speaking of telephone skills. Line two is Mr. Sampson. He needs to bring in his dog. Something about missing a few coins from his beloved coin collection. What should I tell him?”

Kennedy still couldn’t believe her luck, but rather than stand around like an idiot, she moved behind the desk where Jessie was still standing, shook the mouse to bring the computer monitor to life. “See if he can come in at three.”

Jessie grabbed the phone, smiling at Kennedy. “Mr. Sampson? You still hangin’ out?” Pause. “Sorry for the delay, you know how Monday mornings are. I’m happy to say that we can slip you in at three. Does that work for you?” A lengthier pause. “Perfect. Then we’ll see you and Snowball at three.”

When Jessie hung up the phone, Kennedy noticed that Olivia was standing beside her, the other woman’s expression similar to the one Kennedy was wearing. They were both staring at Jessie as though they’d never seen anyone who could answer a telephone.

“Please tell me she’s hired,” Olivia whispered loudly.

Kennedy stepped forward, jotted down a number on a piece of paper, and then slipped it over to Jessie. The other woman’s eyes widened and a huge grin formed.

“Looks like I’m hired. Do you mind if Scrap hangs out with me for a while?”

“Not at all,” Olivia and Kennedy said at the exact same time.

SAWYER SPENT THE morning at the Walker Demo office, with Buster in tow, handling Jared’s duties and calling his cousin to check in. Jared had been required to make another trip to El Paso to finalize the papers for the adoption, although Derrick had been living with Jared for the past month. Sawyer knew when his cousin headed out that morning that he feared Sable was going to go back on her word. Hell, he had thought the same thing. The woman wasn’t stable, there was no question about that. But, based on the brief phone call he’d had with Jared, there were no surprises and he and Derrick would be back the following day.

Things were going smoothly at Walker Demo this go-round, but Sawyer figured that was because Jaxson was in charge. Unlike the last time, when Jaxson had been on vacation, the guy had been all for stepping in and taking over, even briefly. From what Sawyer could tell, all jobs were being taken care of so when he finished up there, he had snuck over to the resort where he had spent the last couple of hours.

He had several conference calls scheduled that he couldn’t avoid, so he’d had to put off his visit to see Kennedy until the afternoon, something he found himself looking forward to all damn day. By the time he snuck out of AI, he couldn’t have wiped the smile off his face if he had wanted to.

And he definitely did not want to. For half the day, the memories of the weekend they’d spent practically all of together had plagued him. In the best possible way, however, the timing couldn’t have been worse. It wasn’t exactly a good thing that he’d been walking around with a constant hard-on, but somehow he had managed.

Now, as he was pulling into Kennedy’s office parking lot, he was hoping to find a few minutes to get her alone. He had missed her last night. After spending Saturday night in her bed, and then all day Sunday hanging out, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her.

Her sweet mouth, her wicked tongue, her hot pussy. Yeah, needless to say, he was one giant walking hormone and the only cure he could think of was her.

When he stepped inside, he found Jessie sitting at the counter, talking on the phone. He waited, confused.

She hung up the phone a minute later and smiled up at him.

“Hey. What’re you doin’ here?” she asked, glancing down at the computer screen. “I don’t see that Buster has an appointment.”

“I’m not here for Buster,” Sawyer said simply and it only took a second for his words to register on Jessie’s face.

“Well, she’s in with . . . er . . . someone, but she should be done in a few minutes. Have a se
at. Stay awhile.”

Sawyer chose to lean against the counter while Buster went in search of a treat, only to find Scrap napping on the other side. He watched as Jessie greeted his dog, slipping him a small bone and patting his head before turning her attention back to him.

“So, what’s goin’ on? I heard you were handlin’ Walker Demo while Jared’s out of town.”

“Technically Jaxson is, though I’m helpin’ out if he needs me. But I think the bigger question is what’s goin’ on with you?” Sawyer nodded his head toward the desk. “I didn’t know you worked here.”

“As of this mornin’,” Jessie clarified, her eyes bright. “I brought Scrap in for his shots and turns out Kennedy needs a receptionist. I volunteered, the rest is history.”

“Does that mean Kylie’s still taking time off?”

“No,” Jessie informed him. “She’s back to work, but only part-time. The only reno she’s taking on is Cheyenne’s. That leaves very little for me to do.”

“Travis finally convinced Kylie to take things slow?” Sawyer knew that his brother had been harping on Kylie to close things down since the day Kate was born. Except for the first couple of weeks when Kylie had been recovering, she hadn’t taken his advice. The woman was as stubborn as they came, even Sawyer knew that much. Then again, it took a mighty stubborn woman to keep two men in line, especially two men like Travis and Gage.

“I don’t think it was so much Travis who convinced her as it was Kate. She’s in love with her daughter and I don’t know if we’ll ever see her again unless we go to her.”

Sawyer grinned. Yeah, he knew exactly what Jessie was referring to. Last night, after he had reluctantly left Kennedy’s, he had stopped by his brother’s house only to find all three of them cooing over their daughter. She was a little more than a month old, but it didn’t seem like the newness had worn off just yet. It had been sweet. Until it wasn’t.

Not that Sawyer would’ve told them that. He hadn’t stayed long because they had mentioned that the entire family had been parading through their house for most of the day as they did most weekends. From what he could tell, Sunday dinners weren’t nearly enough time for everyone, especially his mother, to get their fill of the newest Walker. So he’d chatted with Gage for a few minutes out front and then headed home after picking Buster up from Brendon’s.
