“No ma’am. I just thought you’d be busy.” Chris answered, sounding solemn.
“I think one thing that hit home the hardest for me tonight,” Sandra said, “is that there’s never enough time with family and friends.”
Blake nodded and pulled Chris into a noogie and rubbed his noggin for a minute before getting the flour out with a measuring cup.
“First, we have to make some dough balls, and maybe in the end, we’ll bake the hooks inside of them so they stay on longer. Then we have to find something stinky to coat them with. It could be chicken guts, some liver, or some—“
“We could use some of mom’s cooking!” Chris said, despite the giggles and flew out of the doorway before a sputtering Sandra took chase.
Lisa walked upstairs to see what the running was about and gave Blake a puzzled look.
“No worries Mom, just horsing around.” Blake told his mother in law.
“Do I need to take a switch to you?” She said, grinning.
“No, but your grandson might not get some of your home made brownies if Sandra catches him first.” He said, chuckling.
“She didn’t do too well with my recipe yesterday. She’ll get better, don’t you and Chris worry about starving,” Lisa patted Blake on the shoulder and walked outside into the starlight, letting the sounds of a chase and the combined voices of laughter filter into the house.
