My Ranch My Way

Chase was still kneeling in front of her, hugging her to his chest. Apparently he wasn't in a hurry to release her, which she was fine with, too. He leaned back and looked in her eyes again, smiling. "Now I can truly say it's my ranch, and I'm running it my way."

Neither of them heard their family behind them applauding, laughing, cheering. All they heard and saw was each other, declaring their love for the other.

  Epilogue

After a lovely October wedding the newlyweds settled in nicely. Pete was happy to have his daughter so close, but be able to watch her settle in to married life. It was easy for him to see how happy she was.

Chase and Cece hosted Thanksgiving dinner. Family had become very important to all of them, and they were happy to all be gathered at the large family table. Aunt Helen's family had all been able to make it, as well, making a house full of people for roughly a week. It had been great, giving them all a chance to get to know each other better. Chase hadn't seen much of his cousins the last several years, and they all enjoyed getting reacquainted.

Chase's cousins had two little boys and a girl, and the three of them had a blast playing with the two puppies, who weren't really puppies any more, but still extremely playful.

As they were ready to eat their Thanksgiving meal Joe got their attention. "Thanksgiving always makes me stop and think. This year I have a great deal to be thankful for, and most of it is all right here. Family is wonderful, but it's also irreplaceable, and I'm thankful that I have a daughter-in-law that saw that and brought it to our attention. She not only cleared my brother's name, but brought us all together, and I want to say thank you, Cece."

She blushed once again, but said, "I have much to be thankful for, as well. Not only do I have a wonderful husband that I'm very thankful for, but I also want to thank you and everyone here for taking my dad and me in to be part of your family."

A couple more people verbalized their thanks, including Ralph thanking Cece for proving his innocence.

The last person to stand was Chase. "I would like to thank all of you for coming and sharing our first Thanksgiving with us. And I especially want to thank Cece for making me so happy." He leaned over and kissed her cheek. The ahhs from the adults gave way to the yucks from the little ones, and everyone laughed. "And one last thing I'm thankful for, then you can eat. He went to a cupboard and got a book. "And I'm glad this got here just in time so we can celebrate it now while we're all together." He turned it around so everyone could see Cece's first book. "Congratulations, Honey. It looks great."

A cheer went up from the table. Everyone wanted a chance to see the book. Anticipating that, Chase had several copies and handed them out.

The kids weren't as impressed with a book as the adults, and one of the younger ones asked, "When do we get to eat? Who makes that decision?"

Everyone laughed, and they laughed again as Chase said, "I do. This is my ranch and I run it my way. And right now I say we eat!"
