Sergeant Baker, the cop that had patronized Dizzy that first night, stepped out of the house and down the front steps, stopping in front of the three of them. He shuffled his feet and cleared his throat.
“I just want to say, Miss Foster, that I’m real sorry I didn’t take you seriously that night. I should have and that’s my mistake.”
At first Easton thought Dizzy wasn’t going to reply and he wouldn’t have blamed her. There were a whole bunch of Tremont residents that were going to be eating a heaping helping of crow tonight. But eventually she did and her eyes were bright with tears as she gripped Easton’s arm.
“Apology accepted. Just take good care of Janine, okay? She deserves our best.”
The sergeant’s throat bobbed and his cheeks turned red, but he nodded in agreement.
“We’re going to do right by her, Miss Foster. I promise.”
The sergeant walked away and West drifted off as well to speak to one of the detectives. Easton leaned down to drop a brief kiss on her cheek, salty from her tears.
“I’m so proud of you, baby. You never gave up, never took no for an answer. Even from me. The universe picked the perfect warrior for this battle.”
Her lips quirked up into a smile. “Easton Anderson, are you admitting that perhaps there might be things that are true and real that you can’t see?”
He wanted to spend the rest of his life with this woman. Nope, make that all of his lives. He and Dizzy were destined to be together.
“Yes, I am.”
Chapter Thirty-Three

Tami Foster accepted the glass of wine from Easton’s mother Kathy. Their husbands were chatting away next to them about the merits of private versus public school education. To her surprise, it sounded like they actually agreed.
Of course, it was going to be a few years before Easton and Dizzy’s children attended school. Her daughter had only been dating Easton for a few weeks but clearly, they were head over heels for each other. That was why she and Louis had agreed to come to Sunday dinner at the Anderson home. They’d better get to know their soon-to-be in-laws a little better. Sure, she’d spent some time with Kathy and Joe through the years but they were going to be family, and that was a whole other kettle of fish.
The two couples were standing at the kitchen sink looking out of the window at Easton and Dizzy kissing in the gazebo. They really were a sweet couple and the boy had already begun growing on Tami. Anyone who loved Dizzy that much had to be a good man.
Kathy sighed, her smile growing wider as they watched the couple snuggle together on the gazebo bench. They appeared to be whispering and giggling about something, probably sex, but Tami didn’t say it out loud.
“Do you think we can have a spring wedding?” Kathy asked, turning to Tami. “Or maybe June? That’s a lovely month for a wedding.”
“We can be back from Greece by then,” Louis agreed readily. “That gives the kids time to plan it.”
“I’d like three or four grandchildren,” Tami declared. “Two boys and two girls. What about you, Kathy?”
Chuckling, Kathy took a sip of her wine. “That sounds good, although after raising four boys I wouldn’t mind all girls.”
Joe shook his head. “Now ladies, Easton hasn’t even proposed and you’re planning weddings and babies. We have to let them do it at their pace.”
“I could give them a little push,” Tami suggested. “I think in our travels we picked up a few witchcraft books. I could cast a spe–”
Louis looked appalled. “Good God, woman, no. With your luck, you’d end up conjuring a demon and set it loose on the whole town.”
Her husband was always so dramatic. She would have been careful.
Kathy sniffed disdainfully. “It might just be what Tremont deserves for not believing Dizzy. Now I don’t believe in witchcraft but I do believe in the magic of that gazebo. We’ll have a wedding within the year. I guarantee it.”
Tami held up her wine glass. “I’ll drink to that. To our children’s future, love and babies. To becoming a family.”
All four of them clinked glasses and Tami saw the sun begin to peek through the gray clouds that had been hanging over them all day. Maybe the universe was listening after all.
Love would always triumph in the end.
