Without thinking, I reached out and wrapped my hand around his cock, loving the heavy feel of it in my hand. We stood there, me rubbing over his hard length while he watched. I looked up, and his mouth slammed against mine. Instinctively, I gripped his cock tighter in my hand.

I felt him backing me up farther out onto the large balcony that overlooked the back of his expansive estate.

“Tyler?” I whispered, feeling very exposed.

“It’s okay. No one can see us,” he assured me. “Turn around.”

I turned and overlooked the perfectly kept yard. Lights came from a large pool to the left, and more lights surrounded a gazebo to the right. He moved his hands down my arms, placing my hands on the black wrought-iron railing.

I felt his dick rubbing over my butt and shivered in anticipation. He used his hand to guide the satiny-smooth head of his cock to my hole before slowly pushing in. I bent forward, arching my back and pushing against him, anxious to have him fill me.

“More,” I said when he stopped halfway inside me.

He ran his hand down my spine, over my hips, and up my stomach to cup my breasts. The fresh air, the moonlight, and the distant sound of owls calling reminded me we were outside. It was daring and I loved it.

He pushed in higher, his hand working its way down my stomach to where we were joined together. I was stretched and completely filled by him. The pad of his finger reached my hard nub and gently pressed in small circles, causing my legs to shake as need overwhelmed me. A moment before I found my release, he stopped.

“Tyler!” I cried out in frustration.

“Not yet,” he whispered in my ear.

He grabbed my hips and jerked me back against him, shoving his dick impossibly deeper inside me. He slowly rotated my hips, grinding his dick against the walls of my pussy, leaving no nerve ending untouched.

The orgasm was a slow burn, climbing over my body, spiraling out and causing the most delicious feeling I had ever experienced.

“I can’t,” I moaned, telling him I couldn’t hold back; I was going over the edge of the abyss.

“Me either,” he grunted, his body jerking forward, pushing me against the railing as he exploded deep inside me.

I held on for dear life, our bodies coming apart piece by piece. I gasped for air, realizing I had been holding my breath for too long.

He stepped away, spinning me around and hugging my naked body tightly against his own. I could hear and feel his heartbeat pounding in his chest.

“I need to go,” I muttered, pulling away.

  “Emily, wait,” he called out.

I didn’t stop. I quickly dressed and left the house without looking back. I couldn’t look back. If I did, I wouldn’t leave.

When I woke the following morning, I felt guilty. I was pissed I had let myself fall into sex with him again, even if it had been spectacular. I didn’t want to get hurt, and any kind of relationship with Tyler was sure to lead to me crying over a broken heart.

I made my way out to the kitchen, thankful I had the day off. I planned on telling Tommy about Tyler today. I checked my phone and saw I had a couple texts. Both were from Leo.

My heart fell to my stomach as I read the messages. He had been to Tommy’s daycare looking for him this morning and wanted to know where his son was. I had no idea how he had found out about the daycare, but I didn’t like it. Leo was acting crazy.

“Hey, buddy,” I said, turning to see Tommy rubbing his eyes as he walked to the table. “Ready for some cereal?”

He yawned and nodded his head. “Then can I play the computer?”

“For a little bit. I think we’ll go to the park today and maybe get lunch at McDonald’s. Does that sound fun?” I asked in an overly cheerful voice as I tried to erase the fear Leo’s texts had created.

“Okay,” he mumbled, clearly not quite as excited as I was.

I sat down and opened the alerts on my Twitter page and felt my stomach twist into sickening knots as I stared at the picture of Tyler and Cora. He had told me I would see a kiss. He didn’t tell me I would see him looking at the woman as if she were the best-tasting chocolate cake in the world. There was no denying the chemistry between the two of them. I slammed the phone down.

“I’m going to take a shower. You finish eating and then we’re going out,” I grumbled.

He nodded his head, not answering around his mouthful of cereal. I couldn’t believe the man had played me again. I was such an idiot! I couldn’t seem to control myself when it came to him. That meant I needed to keep my distance. I would talk to him about arranging a time for him and Tommy to see each other. The exchange would be on mutual territory and there would be no chance I would end up naked and writhing with his dick seated deep inside me.

After an hour of playing at the park, I took Tommy to McDonald’s and told him about Tyler. The kid was ecstatic.

“Can I call him Dad? Can we go see him? Is he going to teach me how to play baseball?” he asked. His excitement about the idea of having a father in his life warmed my heart.

I would have to learn how to have Tyler in my life without getting crazy jealous of the women he dated. I vowed never to sleep with him again. It had to be that way for my own mental health.

“Can I see him today?” Tommy asked, still carrying on about his dad.

“I’ll call him. He works a lot, more than I do. It is going to be tough to see him a lot, but I know he is very excited to hang out with you.”

  Tommy was grinning. “Thanks, Mom!”

I laughed at the irony. The kid was thanking me for giving him a dad—something he’d already had—but now he was going to get the chance to do all the things he had been talking about. In some ways, I already felt jealous. The two of them were going to have a close relationship and I would be on the outskirts, watching from a distance. Tommy had been mine for so long. It was going to be tough to share his love and affection.

  Chapter Twenty-Five

  Tyler

I couldn’t remember the last time I had taken a day off in the middle of the week. I had been working at least five days a week, usually six, for a good ten years. This was a worthy occasion. When Emily had called yesterday to ask if she could bring Tommy over to spend some time together, I had jumped at the chance. I knew I had surprised her when I’d said I would take the day off.

She had sounded strange on the phone. I wasn’t sure why, but figured we could work it out today. I had barely been able to sleep a wink last night. I had Googled like crazy, Yelped, and read at least a thousand reviews about the various attractions around the city. I knew Tommy was crazy smart, and I wanted to do something that would appeal to him while enriching him as well.

I smiled, realizing I was already thinking like a father.

My phone rang. I assumed it was Emily letting me know she was on her way. It wasn’t. I groaned, debating sending the call to voice mail, but I figured I had better answer or he would keep calling.

“What can I do for you, Jack?” I said.

“Tyler, did you catch the show last night?” he asked, his voice full of excitement.

  “No.”

Shit. That explained Emily’s attitude on the phone. The show would have had teasers, which she’d probably caught.

“The ratings were great. Now we need to work out a way for you to make your big decision. It needs to be big. I want to tease it and ensure we get a huge ratings boost.”

“What was on the show last night?” I asked, almost afraid to hear the answer.

“Oh, footage that wasn’t aired earlier: you and Cora and that kiss. That kiss really excited the viewers. You did a great job. Viewers are convinced you are truly interested in all three women. I can tell you Cora is leading the polls,” he told me, excitement making his voice high-pitched.

“I want this over,” I stated firmly.

“I’ll let you know what we come up with. It needs to be big, lots of fireworks and drama.”

  “I have to go,” I said a
nd ended the call.

I had my answer about why Emily had been short. At least I knew what I was fighting against.

“Sir, your guests have arrived,” my security announced.

“Thank you,” I said. I practically skipped through the foyer to meet them at the door.

Emily was just getting Tommy out of the back seat when I stepped outside. He stood by the car, looking at me with wonder.

“Hi, Tommy,” I said with a smile.

“Hi,” he said, a small smile on his lips.

I looked at Emily, who refused to meet my eyes. “Hi,” I said.

“Tommy, you listen to Tyler and don’t run off. You hold his hand,” she instructed, her back to me as she crouched in front of the little boy.

“You’re not staying?” I asked, a little surprised she was leaving him alone with me.

“No. I have to work,” she said, finally looking at me. “I’m off at five. Please, don’t feed him too much junk food.”

I nodded, looking down at the boy, and realized I was a little nervous myself.

“I was hoping you could join us,” I said, stepping closer to her.

She did her best to ignore me. “I can’t. Where are you taking him?”

I shrugged. “I was hoping you could help me choose. You said he wasn’t big on parks. What about museums?”

  “He’d like that.”

“Do you think he’s too young for the Exploratorium?” I asked anxiously.

  “I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

She kissed Tommy on the head and promised to have her cell on her should there be an emergency. We both watched as she drove away.

“Do you need to eat or use the bathroom before we go?” I asked, not entirely sure what kind of care the child needed.

It surprised me that she’d left him with me at all. I guessed this was one of those sink or swim situations. I was either going to figure out how to be a dad or completely suck at it.

After a quick run to the restroom, Alex whisked us to the pier. I loved showing Tommy all the cool things and watching him as he soaked everything in. It was a long day and I had a feeling the kid was exhausted. I called Emily and let her know I would be bringing him home. She offered to pick him up, but I was anxious for an excuse to see her. Plus, she couldn’t run away from me at her place.

I knocked on the door of her apartment, which Tommy thought was silly, but I explained to him that I didn’t live there, and therefore it wouldn’t be proper for me to simply walk in.

“Hi!” She greeted us with a huge smile that I knew was meant for Tommy alone. “Did you have fun?” she asked him.

“I had a lot of fun and saw so much cool stuff!” he gushed, walking in the door.

I took advantage of her guard being down around our son and followed Tommy through the door.

“Did you just get home?” I asked her.

She nodded. “A few minutes ago.”

“I didn’t feed him dinner. Have you eaten yet?” I asked her, looking into her green eyes and seeing anger.

She shook her head. “No. Like I said, I just got home. I’ll make dinner.”

I reached out to touch her arm, but she jerked away. “Let’s go out to dinner. You look tired. I know I am. I’d like to talk to you about our day and future days together.”

“Let’s go, Mom!” Tommy said, jumping up and down with energy I couldn’t believe he still had.

She looked at him and smiled. “I’ll make a pizza.” She turned back to me, that fire in her eyes once again. “We’ll be fine. Thank you for the offer.”

“Emily, please,” I said, staring into her eyes.

“Please, Mom.” Tommy pleaded my case for me.

She shot me another look, letting me know just how unhappy she was. “Fine. I need to change first.”

When she walked out of the room, I held up my hand for a high-five with Tommy.

The kid grinned. “You have to ask real nice,” he whispered.

“I heard that, Thomas Preston!” she shouted from the bedroom.

I chuckled when Tommy’s eyes went wide. “Oops,” he said and covered his mouth, then burst into conspiratorial giggles.

I was going to have to talk to her about his name. I wanted him to have my last name. He was my son, my heir. That was a subject that could wait until she was in a little better mood. I wasn’t a complete moron and knew when to pick my battles.

She came out of the bedroom, brushing her hair out. “Tommy, can you go pick up the toys in your room, please?”

Tommy looked as if he were going to protest but quickly changed his mind.

“I’m only doing this because he wants to get to know you. I don’t want the cameras there,” she hissed.

I nodded my head. “There won’t be any cameras. The show is done.”

She scoffed. “You sure about that? Seems like you have a big decision coming up. Of course, I’ve already told your over-eager producer I’m out, but he seems to think I’m actually an option. I won’t be showing up to some grand showdown.”

“There won’t be any cameras. That show the other night, it was all old footage. I didn’t go out with Cora again,” I said in a low voice.

She shrugged a shoulder. “Every time I think you’re serious, I end up being made a fool of. I can’t keep putting myself in that position. I told you already, I’m not that kind of person.”

“Good!” I said, a little too loudly. “I don’t want you to be.”

She looked at me, her eyes softening. “Please don’t use our son to get ratings.” Her voice was barely above a whisper.

“I wouldn’t. I won’t. I want to protect him as much as you do. I didn’t know our picture was being taken the last time we went out. You know that, Emily. Don’t try to paint me as the bad guy. I know what you’re thinking, and it’s wrong. Nothing happened with those other women. I don’t want them,” I said, hoping to make her see reason.

Our conversation was cut off when Tommy came back into the room. “All done,” he announced.

“Good. Thank you. I think we’re ready,” Emily said, a smile on her face.

“I’m going to make a call,” I said, stepping into the hall while Emily finished getting ready to leave.

We walked out of the building, and no one seemed to be paying any attention to us, much to my relief. We climbed in the back of the car, Tommy seated between us in his booster chair. There was an awkwardness between us, but we both tried to do our best so Tommy didn’t feel it.

When the car came to a stop, Emily looked around. “Where are we?”

“We’re going to be dining at the chef’s table,” I told her.

She raised an eyebrow, questioning me.

“It ensures our privacy,” I said.

“Oh, good. Thank you. I really do appreciate it,” she said. This time her smile was real.

  “Of course.”

We were escorted through the back door and given a small table in the kitchen, out of the way of the busy team of cooks and servers.

“This is cool, Mom!” Tommy said, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

She laughed. “You’ve seen me cook dinner a hundred times and you never thought it was that exciting.”

The boy looked exasperated. “This is different. That’s a real chef,” he said.

“Maybe we should get your mom a chef’s hat. Would that make her look like a real chef?” I asked.

  Tommy shrugged. “Maybe.”

The rest of dinner went great. Emily relaxed a little, but the conversation was focused around Tommy. We didn’t actually speak to each other. I was getting tired of constantly defending myself. The woman was prickly, and I wasn’t one to grovel. She was going to have to figure it out for herself. I was serious about her. The other women weren’t even on my radar and never had been.

“Thank you for dinner,” she said at the door of her apartment after shooing Tommy off to bed.

“Do I get a kiss?” I asked playfully.

  She r
olled her eyes. “No.”

“You’re going to kiss me again, Emily. Know that,” I said before spinning around and walking away. I heard the door slam shut behind me and burst into laughter.

She wanted me. I saw it in her eyes. I planned on using that to my advantage. I would convince her I was serious. Once the show was over, I could set things right. As I strode down the two flights of stairs to my waiting car, an idea formed in my mind. I had a plan for showing her just how serious I was.

When I wanted something, I usually got it. Emily was a bit more challenging, but that would make winning her all the sweeter.

  Chapter Twenty-Six

  Emily

“Here. One bowl of Frosted Flakes,” I said, sliding the bowl of sugary cereal across the table to Tommy.

“And then we had a hot dog.” He continued on with his conversation as if I hadn’t interrupted him.

He had been talking about his day with Tyler since his eyes first opened this morning.

“Eat up. We have to get going,” I told him, heading into the bathroom to put on my makeup.

The kid kept on talking. I made the appropriate noises, letting him know I was still listening. I heard my phone ringing in the bedroom and quickly went to answer it.

“Hello?” I answered, rubbing lotion on my arms.

“Emily, I want to see my son,” a male voice said.

“Leo?” I said, looking at the number on the screen.

“Yes. I’m coming over. I want to see him and you can’t stop me!”

I took a deep breath while rubbing my temple. “Leo, he isn’t your son and I can stop you. We aren’t going to be here.”

I heard him curse. “You can’t keep him from me. I’ll pick him up at daycare if you don’t let me see him.”

“No, you won’t!” I shouted and hung up the phone.

Tommy appeared in my bedroom, concern on his little face.

“It’s okay. It was a wrong number. Go finish your cereal,” I told him, trying to hide the fear in my voice.
