15Gutiérrez would eventually come around to supporting the DREAM Act. And in an ironic twist, half a decade later, students would come back to protest in his office because they felt he was too focused on the limited reach of the DREAM Act rather than on comprehensive reform. But some on his staff remained bitter about the sit-in and the leaked phone call. They saw it as a cheap attempt to shame one of the few lawmakers who at the time was dedicated to helping and willing to engage with students.
