Freddie glanced nervously at Dennenth and said, “Dennenth makes you happy too. What if—”

“You stop right there,” Sarah interrupted. “Dennenth isn’t like Blake, baby. He loves you like he loves me. He wants you and me together.”

“I love him too, Mummy, but what if we have to leave him too?”

She glanced at Dennenth to find him staring at her, his gray eyes filled with love, then she looked back to her son.

“Well, you see, Dennenth and I have a special bond, like you will do one day. We are going to grow old together and love each other like there is no tomorrow.”

A smile lit up her man’s face while Freddie just nodded and picked his toast up again.

“So, still fancy that trip to see my parents?” Dennenth asked.

“I’d go anywhere with you.” She winced at the corny line that slipped out. “Oh, good Lord, that was so cheesy.”

Dennenth rolled his head back, filling the room with his laughter. “Miss Porter, I love you.”

  “As I you, Mr. Sharp.”

  Chapter 12

They left the next afternoon, and by the time they reached Scotland it was pretty late. Freddie had fallen asleep on the car ride from the small airport. Not two hours ago Dennenth had watched with pleasure as the boy bounced around in glee on his first plane ride.

Sarah was in the passenger seat, watching the mountains go past with awe on her face. Their shared bond made him grateful she could feel as much awe as he did for the place.

  “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”

“It looks so peaceful. You used to go flying over this place?”

“I used to fly up and just sit on the peaks of the mountains. My dragon loved it. But as we got older, it grew old. We had a hole in our hearts to fill. Looking at it again it fills me with as much joy as I once had, but not as much as when we look upon you.”

“For a big, hard bouncer man...” She turned toward him and smiled. “...you have a mushy side. I love it!”

“Would you like to take a flight with me?”

“Really?” she asked. He watched and felt the excitement fill her. “Holy crap! Yes, I would love it.”

  * * * *

The weekend trip turned into a week’s holiday. Sarah found Dennenth’s parents to be a lovely couple. She could see the huge amount of love they had for their son, and how proud of him they were. They loved Freddie as if he were their own grandson. They even told the boy he was to call them Granny and Grandpa, which he did lovingly.

Their home was in a very remote place far north of Scotland on the Faroe islands. The flight to the island had taken just under two hours, then there was a short car trip. The sights there were fantastic, so green and clean. The mountains seemed to fill in the horizon around them. Each of them tipped with snow and ice. Day or night all that could be heard was the wind singing through the mountains. It was the most peaceful place Sarah had ever been.

Their first night there Dennenth had shifted, the dragon insisting on nuzzling her. She couldn’t help giggling over and over as it wiped its jaws over her head and anywhere else it could reach. It was Dennenth’s mother who explained that it was scent marking her. Afterward his father had made sure she was wrapped up warm, then he’d shown her how to mount the dragon and hold on.

Taking flight on the huge arsed dragon was indeed something magical. Even flying through the crisp air that seemed to freeze her lungs didn’t spoil the ride. The scent filling the air from the pines trees as they flew over them was wonderful. The scenery was amazing; she fell in love with the mountains as much as her man had.

Every night after that Dennenth released his dragon and took flight. She loved it. The freedom she felt was incredible. Then, when they would return back to the house, Dennenth would make love to her slow and easy, making she melt in his arms with the love they shared through their bond.

For the whole week his parents were nothing but loving, his mother hardly letting Sarah do anything. She caught the odd glance between mother and son if certain things were said about younglings, which made her a little curious. She already knew children between her and Dennenth could happen. Because of Amy, she also knew the pregnancy was quicker and he would share a bond with the child. But with the looks between mother and son it was as if they knew something she didn’t.

When it was time to go home, sadness filled her. While they had been away, she hadn’t once thought about Blake being out there. Freddie had run around carefree. The fresh air and space had done wonderful things for him.

On the way back to London, she noticed a slight change in Freddie’s mood. He was more subdued again. While Dennenth unpacked the car—which contained double the amount they had left with, being his parents had bought them a good amount of presents—Sarah helped Freddie get ready for bed.

  “Mummy?”

  “What’s up, little man?”

“Do you think one day we could go live where Granny and Grandpa do?”

“Don’t you think it’s a little cold there, and wouldn’t you miss your friends?”

“They could come visit.” His little shoulders raised and drop in a nonchalant shrug, and he carried on brushing his teeth.

If only things were that easy, she thought.

Dennenth had gone around and checked each and every window as well as the doors and locks twice, but he couldn’t help the restless feeling he had. Being back there after their fun-filled and relaxing week with his parents had dampened his mood.

He was standing in his office, looking over Kensington gardens, where he had often stood before. Only this time he had his mate. He and his dragon had their other half now. They were complete. But the hole in his heart that had filled finding Sarah still felt something was missing. He knew part of him missed home, missed the mountains and his parents, but he was also bothered by the fact that Blake had managed to make his way into his domain and hurt his family, and he was still out there.

  “Hey.”

He closed his eyes briefly and let the silky voice of his mate fill his ears and her scent fill his lungs.

“You seem a little distant there.”

He turned to look at her standing in his office doorway. She was wearing an ankle-length, silk nightgown that clung to her body, showing off her curves. His blood rushed south, filling his cock.

“You’re a dream for any pair of eyes that look upon you,” he said.

“Charmer.” She winked and smiled. Taking a few steps toward him, she wrapped her arms around his waist, laying her head on his chest. “Why so glum?”

Enclosing her with his own arms, he answered, “More nostalgic than anything.” He sighed.

“Want to explain?” She pulled her head back from his chest and looked him in the eyes.

He lifted her into his arms and walked through his office and upstairs to their room. “I’m not sure.” He sighed again, kicking the bedroom door shut with his foot. “I came here with hope of finding my mate, which I was lucky enough to do.” He kissed the end of Sarah’s nose, sitting down on the bed with her in his lap. “But now, having gone home for a bit, I realize just how much I miss my mountains. How much I miss my parents.”

“So why not go back home?”

His mouth dropped open. Go home?

“Freddie was asking earlier about going back there. It seems our boy loves the open space as well as your parents.”

“You would move there?” he asked, shocked. His mate would move to his mountains in the middle of nowhere for him? “We can stay here, it’s just a wee bit of missing home, that’s all. You have friends here who would miss you.”

Sarah smiled and reached up and placed a peck on his lips. “In the words of a wise five-year-old...they can visit.” She shrugged with another smile.

“You really wouldn’t mind moving there?”

“I loved it there, and I loved your parents too.”

“Sleep on it,” he suggested, not wanting her to rush into a decisio
n she might regret.

“I don’t need to, but okay.”

She moved, straddling his lap, her gown sliding up her legs, showing off the top of her thighs. He could already feel the heat from her center against his jeans. Their mouths met. Their tongues entwined. Clothes disappeared. Dennenth made sweet, sweet love to his mate over and over until the early hours of the morning.

  Chapter 13

A week later, dressed to the nines along with her trusty cowboy boots, Sarah was sitting in one of the VIP bubble rooms in the club Dragon’s Heart, which was owned by Troy, Amy’s mate. Wendy, Bobbie, and Melanie, along with Amy, had all planned this night before she made the running leap and decided to move to Scotland with Dennenth.

“You’re sure this is what you want?” Amy asked, taking a sip of her virgin sex on the beach being she was pregnant again.

“Yes.” Sarah nodded vigorously. “I’ve never been more sure of anything.” She couldn’t wait. She knew Dennenth couldn’t either. His excitement flooded through to her from their bond.

“You’ll come back and visit often though, right?” Wendy asked, sipping her virgin Mary. Sarah didn’t push, but she knew her friend was hiding something, Wendy never said no to a drink or a night out. In fact, tonight none of them were drinking alcohol for various reasons.

“Tell us about the new house,” Bobbie said.

“Oh, it’s lovely,” Sarah gushed. “The place isn’t far from his parents. It looks like one of the American cabins in the woods. It’s all made from oak. Great big glass windows with a fantastic view of the mountains. It has a wraparound porch with a swing. The centerpiece in the living room is a huge fireplace. The kitchen is big enough to cook for thousands...okay, that might be a slight exaggeration.” she admitted. “It also has six bedrooms. Dennenth said he wants to fill them all with kids.” She blushed with a slight giggle.

“Oh yeah,” Melanie hollered above the music. “Lots and lots of sex.” The small VIP room filled with the sound of women laughing.

“You should know.” Amy nudged Melanie’s elbow. “How do you handle two of them?” she asked, nodding toward two of the six men watching them from the balcony though the glass.

“They’re bears, they like honey.” She grinned and wiggled her butt.

The six strapping, muscle-bound men watching them were all different in their own way, but had one thing in common. Each one of them had a pair of eyes on a specific woman.

“If we didn’t know them, that would be really creepy.” Bobbie laughed.

“I don’t know.” Amy sighed, fanning her face with her hand. “What could be worse, looking at their lust-filled eyes, knowing they are all thinking about getting laid tonight, or knowing all of us are.”

The women burst into another fit of laughter. Sarah loved her friends. It was going to be hard to leave them behind. But knowing she wasn’t that far away, what with Dennenth’s private jet at hand, it wasn’t so bad.

“With all this laughing I’m going to need the bathroom again.” Amy stood, picking up her bag.

“Me too.” Sarah stood and followed her out of the room.

“This being pregnant is a pain in the butt, you have to pee all the time,” Amy grouched.

As Sarah walked down the few stairs to the bathroom below she shook her head, remembering what it was like when she had been pregnant with Freddie.

It was odd that this was her third bathroom trip and she’d only been there a few hours. She hadn’t drunk that much. In fact, now that she thought about it, she had been peeing a lot lately. Thinking back over her period dates, she realized she was about two weeks late. She frowned. She had been feeling rather icky recently too.

Opening her small handbag, her mouth dropped open with realization. She’d stuck a handful of mints in it before she’d left. Not because she didn’t want bad breath, but because she’d been nibbling on them all week without even thinking about it. She’d done the same thing when she’d been pregnant with Freddie, she’d craved the flavor and it had settled her stomach.

  Was she pregnant?

  “Amy?” she said.

  “Yep?”

“Troy knew you were pregnant how?”

  “He could scent it.”

“You were only a few weeks along, right?”

“Yep. This time though he told me after a few days.” Amy looked at her funny. “Are you...”

“If I am, Dennenth hasn’t said anything. Although it would explain his mother. She kept dropping hints, wouldn’t let me do much. She kept telling Dennenth to be careful of me. I thought it was just her being a mother, but now...”

“Did she also explain the birds and the bees?” Amy giggled, pushing the bathroom door open.

There was only one empty stall and Amy ran for it, snagging it first.

Sarah leaned against the sinks, thinking over the last few weeks. Since being back from Scotland Dennenth had been gentle with her during sex. She’d actually become a little frustrated when he continuously made sweet, slow love to her. He was always careful, in control. She’d even planned to wind him up tonight so he’d take her hard and fast.

Had he told Rosa? Because she had been feeding her healthy stuff all week. No. Maybe she was just thinking about this too hard.

“I can honestly say if Dennenth didn’t know what to do, his mother would sit him down and explain it bit by bit to make sure she had more grandbabies. That woman is rather eager.” Sarah chuckled.

The bathroom door opened and a long-legged blonde woman walked in holding a folded piece of paper. She placed a finger over her lips, handed Sarah the paper, then with a shrug, she walked back out. Okay, that was just plain weird.

Sarah opened the note and read it.

You have five minutes to meet me out back or something happens to Freddie. Come alone.

The room began to swim. She recognized that handwriting. Blake.

She needed to phone home. Grabbing her phone, she rang the house. Not getting an answer, she rang it again. Nothing.

“You okay?” Amy came up beside her.

“No one is picking the phone up at home.”

“Honey, it is one o’clock in the morning.”

Sarah ran a hand over her face. Were they asleep? Had Blake already got Freddie? There was only one way to find out.

“Amy, I need you to do me a favor.”

  Chapter 14

Sarah pushed the bar on the emergency exit door and stepped outside into the dark alley, swallowing deeply as she did. Her heart was pounding. I’m doing this for Freddie. I’m doing this for my son. She ran the chant through her head over and over.

“You came, and alone too. Or will your new fucking freak of a man be coming out too? Because I’m warning you now, if he does, Freddie dies.” A greasy-haired Blake stood before her. It looked like he hadn’t shaved in weeks, and his clothes disheveled.

“Where’s Freddie? I’m not going anywhere without him.” She stubbornly stuck her chin up, showing her defiance.

God, she hoped Amy had managed to get the message across. Finding the bond she shared with Dennenth, she felt the white hot rage her man was feeling. Yep, Amy had passed the message on. Now she knew that she wasn’t alone.

“Who’s the blonde that gave me the note?” Sarah asked quietly.

“What the fuck do you care? You’re here, and that’s all that matters. Now we’re going to walk to the end of the alley and climb into my car without a fuss. Aren’t we, Sarah?” He took a step toward her, but she backed up before he could lay a hand on her.

  * * * *

Dennenth stood at the bottom of the alley having come out one of the back doors. His dragon was roaring in his head and pushing against his skin, wanting to be free.

Mate danger. Release me. Let me kill.

I feel your anger and it fuels mine, my friend, but we need to make sure our boy is safe first.

  Now! Free now!

Amy had told him Sarah would wait by the back door for a few minutes to give him
time to get to the end of the alley. He watched the side door open and Sarah stepped out into the alley. He could already scent her fear. Damn her, she’d made the decision and had one of friends relay the message. He was going to tan her hide when he got her home, then he was going to fuck her until she couldn’t walk.

The foul-smelling male stepped out of the shadows and spoke. Dennenth’s hands fisted at his side. His mate shouldn’t be so close to him. He had to hold in the growl that was building inside of him. He could scent the other men in the alley too.

“Where’s Freddie? I’m not going anywhere without him.”

“You really think I’m going to tell you where he is now? Fuck that, you’d take off or scream your head off. Move. Maybe I’ll tell you in the car.” Blake sneered.

“No, Blake, please just tell me where Freddie is, then I’ll come willingly.”

Blake moved fast and slammed Sarah against the wall with his hand around her throat. The beast inside Dennenth was going fucking crazy now.

No hands touch our mate. Release me.

“Think you’re brave now? Think you’re worth something ’cause you let another man fuck you? You’re mine, you always fucking will be. Now move.”

Dennenth could see the tears streaking down Sarah’s face. He couldn’t take any more.

Blake pulled Sarah away from the wall and cuffed a hand behind the nape of her neck, pushing her a few steps down the alley. Stepping into the light of the alley, Dennenth growled.

“Oh, you did bring your guard dog. Typical. Never could do anything right. Step back, man, this belongs to me.” He shoved Sarah forward a touch, making her whimper.

“This will be the last time I ask you,” Dennenth warned, his voice dark and dangerous. “Where is Freddie? And get your fucking hands off my mate.”
