  “I’ve got to go. I will be back later,” Elle said then walked out of the living room.

  “Where is Amadi?” Goon asked.

  “Up Ursula’s ass crack,” Dayo replied then stood up.

  “I’m ready to pick Arya up from school. I will holla at you two later,” Dayo said then walked out of the room.

  Dayo, Amadi and I ran through the woods headed to Sosa’s home. Ula told Amadi that he finally came back home. Sosa went into hiding after the pack ambushed his nightclub. When we got to his home, a pack of wolves were around his house. The full moon lit up the sky. The house he lived in was almost the size of our mansion.

  “We are outnumbered,” I said to my brothers.

  “Y’all couldn’t wait for us? I told y’all that all I needed was five minutes to calm Kanya down. She didn’t want me to leave,” Goon said from behind us. His blue eyes lit up the woods along with the moon. Elle’s beast stepped out of the woods with a scowl on its face.

  “Is it just me or does Elle’s beast seem sexually frustrated?” I asked them.

  “Shut up, Izra. It’s beast mode, bro. I can taste that nigga’s blood on the tip of my tongue. I’ve been patiently waiting for this,” Dayo said then growled. We hid in the dark as we watched the other beasts walk around Sosa’s house. Sosa lived on a land that sat behind millions of trees. I didn’t understand how someone could drive to his house because there weren’t any roads nearby. Dayo howled then the rest of us howled, scaring the bats out of the trees.

  The beasts that surrounded Sosa’s home came toward us. There were about nine wolves.

  “You’ve got to be kidding me! These are all females! I’m really going to kill him because of this. I’m not feeling this,” Dayo said.

  “Sosa isn’t as dumb as we think. He knows that we wouldn’t battle a pack of female wolves but if one of them aims for my throat then I have to kill her,” Goon said.

  “Amadi wouldn’t mind killing a female wolf,” I said then he growled at me. I stepped back. “Damn, bro I was just kidding,” I told him.

  “Not now, Izra they are closing in on us,” Elle said.

  “I’m going to fuck him up myself,” Dayo said.

  “What do you all want? This isn’t your territory!” one of them said. The rest of the females stood behind her but they were all frightened. They didn’t want to battle a pack of oversized male beasts. Their wolves were small and very feminine and could easily distract a male pack because they were all in heat.

  “This is really sad, bro. They are young females and he put them out to guard his home. They probably don’t even know how to fight,” Dayo said. Goon stepped forward.

  “If we kill him then you all will be free. This is not the way a female wolf is supposed to live.”

  “We have no choice. We have no home or money. We are safer here,” the head female spoke.

  “I will give you all very expensive pieces of jewelry if you leave, but if you stay and fight us, our beasts will attack and it will be out of our control,” Goon told the female leader.

  “How can we trust you?” she asked.

  “We would’ve killed you all by now. Our beasts can take your whole pack out within a few minutes. We are trying to help you, but if you stay and fight with Sosa, all bets are off,” Goon said. The other wolves backed away from the female leader because they didn’t want to fight.

  “Inside his home, there is a pack of male wolves. There are two humans who have poison in their bullets on top of the roof. The poison is created by Sosa to stop immortals. Attack the humans first because the poison will slow you down and Sosa’s pack will ambush you,” she said.

  “Wait for us in the woods,” Dayo told the pack of females. They ran off then disappeared into the dark woods.

  “Izra look out!” Dayo said as a bullet flew past my head. It had come from on top of the house. Wolves came out of nowhere growling at us but my pack immediately started to tear into them. I leaped onto the house, my beast climbing until it landed on the roof. Two humans dressed in some special type of gear had their guns aimed at me. I jumped on the one that was closest to me. My teeth tore into his stomach. A bullet from the other human flew past my head as I continued to tear into the human until he stopped breathing. I slung the dead human over the roof then jumped onto the other human. His gun slipped out of his hand.

  “Let me go!” he yelled. My sharp teeth punctured the skin on his neck, instantly snapping it like a twig. I kept the human inside my mouth as I leaped down from on top of the house. I dragged his body across the yard then lay him down on the front of Sosa’s doorstep. The pack killed most of the wolves. Only three out of twelve wolves were still living. The three wolves ran into Sosa’s house. They went crashing through the window.

  “There’s more wolves inside, I’m sure,” Goon said. Dayo’s beast looked at the dead human in front of the door then looked at me.

  “You seriously brought him a treat? You have more dog tendencies than a wolf. Only dogs bring their masters their kill,” Dayo said to me.

  “Wolves are wild dogs, jackass. I can’t help myself at times. Does Do cats and lions have the same tendencies?” I asked Dayo.

  “I understand your beast is playful, bro, but now is not the time to play,” Elle said to me.

  “I can’t help it, damn it! My beast likes to play!” I shouted. I could hear snickering inside their heads.

  “We all went through that phase when we were younger. Every now and then I like to catch a tossed stick,” Amadi said.

  “Every now and then, I still like to piss in the backyard next to my favorite tree. That’s all y’all are getting from me, and Izra, don’t you dare say a word,” Dayo said. We looked at Goon and Elle as we waited for their confessions.

  “Aren’t we in a middle of a fight? Why are we having beast talk?” Goon asked.

  “As soon as you and Elle tell us, we will go inside his home. They aren’t coming out, trust me. They are waiting for us,” I said.

  “I can’t believe you muthafuckas right now. I like when Kanya rubs behind my ear and when she brushes my fur after I shift,” Goon said.

  “I have a water bowl next to my bed and that’s all you are going to get from me!” Elle shouted. Goon used a force to shatter Sosa’s thick, wooden door. We stepped inside the house. We heard growling coming from upstairs.

  “Izra, is that you?” Onya’s voice called out to me. She didn’t look too good when she stepped in front of me. Her skin looked pale and she had dark circles around her eyes. A patch of her hair was missing.

  “You went against Adika for that? No amount of witchcraft can make me look at her! Plus, her scent is burning my nose, bro,” Dayo fussed.

  “She was beautiful. I don’t know what happened. Maybe Adika cursed her and made her look like this, but her scent is about to drive my beast wild,” I replied. Adika’s curse was still on me. I had the urge to taste Onya again.

  Onya stepped closer to me as the pack growled at her. She reached her hand out to touch my snout.

  “In that short amount of time we spent together, I fell for you. You treated me the way a female is really supposed to be treated,” she said.

  “With the way she looks, it looks like you treated her bad, bro,” Dayo said. I knew what I had to do to make the spell go away. I attacked Onya. I blocked out her screams as my teeth pierced through her neck. The sound of her blood gurgling inside her throat echoed throughout the foyer as my teeth ripped her throat out. I snapped her neck then her body fell onto the floor.

  Five wolves came down the hall, the one in front was Sosa. Dayo growled at him before he leaped. Their beasts knocked down the walls in the hallway as they rolled around. Sosa’s wolves tried to attack Dayo then the pack jumped on them. More of Sosa’s wolves came out into the hall. Blood and fur flew everywhere. A few of them got struck with lightning from Goon. I chewed into one wolf’s throat as another wolf sank his teeth into my throat. Amadi killed the wolf that had my th
roat. The wolf that I had my teeth in stopped breathing then I snapped his neck. Dead wolves lay in the hallway. Amadi, Elle and I were bloody. It was our blood mixed with the other wolves’ blood. Sosa and Dayo rolled around, fighting each other. Dayo slammed Sosa’s beast onto the floor then bit his face. Sosa’s hind legs kicked at Dayo but Dayo’s beast overpowered his. Dayo went for Sosa’s throat then shook him as Sosa whimpered in pain. I heard growling from behind us, and when we turned, there was the pack of females.

  “If they want to die, then let them!” Goon shouted. We stood in front of Sosa and Dayo, ready for battle. The lead female leaped over our heads and the rest of females followed. When I turned around they were ripping Sosa’s wolf apart. Sosa was already dead but they didn’t care. Hurt and anger filled their beasts as they tore him into shreds.

  “That is beautiful,” Goon said as his blue eyes glowed.

  My body ached from fighting Sosa’s pack from the night before. I slowly got out of bed then headed to my bathroom. I showered then got dressed in my Nike sweat suit. I found sweat suits to be very comfortable. When I walked into the kitchen, everyone was sitting at the table, laughing and telling jokes. The pack had no worries. Ammon was gone, Anubi had a new king and Sosa couldn’t sell females anymore. All of our problems were solved.

  The doorbell rang and Amadi went to answer it. Seconds later, he walked in with Ula. Everyone got quiet as they looked at them.

  “Goon and Izra, this is Ula. Ula, these are my two brothers you haven’t met yet. You met everyone else in the pack,” Amadi said. Ula waved at everyone and they waved back.

  “That’s the evil witch, bro? I thought you were going to show us an old witch with gray hair and a big zit on her forehead,” Izra said then sipped his orange juice. Adika pinched him then told him to behave. Izra’s face turned green then his nose grew out. A big zit appeared on his forehead.

  “Now you’ve got the witch you are looking for. I might be a lot of things, but don’t insult me. Those evil witches in those fairytales have nothing on me,” Ula spat then everyone laughed.

  Adika turned him back to normal. “I don’t like her,” Izra said.

  “You don’t like nobody that you can’t bully,” Kanya said.

  “I think what Izra was trying to say is that is he surprised in Amadi’s taste,” Dayo said.

  Everyone talked and laughed and got to know more about Ula. Everyone had happiness with someone, but I wasn’t mad about it. I just wanted to experience the life that I missed out on when I waited for Camille. I left the house then drove three hours away to the mountains where I rented a cabin. Fabia told me before she got on the plane that she was going to write me as soon as she touched down in Africa. I didn’t know what her purpose was when I met her, but I was glad that I did.

  “I went by your home and Goon told me where you went. I didn’t think to ask if you were alone,” she said.
