“Fine, I will go,” I said then she hugged me. I stood up then grabbed my jacket. She cleared her throat.

“Sorry, Akea. I said movies not school. I like the look that you go for, you know, the smart clean look, but you need to bring it down just a notch,” she said to me.

“You want me to change my clothes?” I asked her.

“Umm, yes, that would be nice. Wait right here,” she said then walked out of the room. Moments later, she came back with two shopping bags.

“What is that?” I asked her.

“I was doing a little shopping with the girls and I bought something that would look good on you,” she said.

“I don’t want to dress like Zaan and Kanye,” I said then she growled at me.

“You just offended me. I know that, and that’s what I like about you,” she said. She pulled out a pair of nice jeans with a stylish jacket that looked like a blazer with a hood on it along with pair of fashionable boots to match.

  “I like this,” I said.

“I know. It’s between thug and school boy,” she said.

“Let me take a shower and I will be right out,” I said then she kissed me. Her kiss landed on my lips then she walked out of the room. I took a shower then got dressed. A half-hour later, I walked down the long, spiral case stairwell. My father came out of the kitchen dressed in business attire. My mother wasn’t good at keeping track of how much the jewelry stores made because there was too much money. My father stepped up and took over the accounts. He fussed about it at first because he had to get up early and go to work, but over the years he got used to it.

“Who is this young lady?” he asked me then smirked.

  “Chancy,” I said.

“Now, son, you are about to cause an uproar in this house because your uncle Dayo is missing a few screws. I’m might have to kick his ass. Now, when you go out with Chancy, be on good behavior,” he said.

  “I will,” I said.

“Come talk to me for a minute before you leave,” he said. I followed him into the family room. He took off his suit jacket then loosened his tie.

“I still have to get used to wearing that hot thing all day,” he said then poured himself a glass of the cognac that sat on the table behind the couch.

“It will make me much happier if you connected with your brother. I know you might think that you two are different but you two came from the same womb. You are identical twins and him being a beast and you being a warlock shouldn’t make a difference. I know that he teases you but it’s because he wants your attention. I know you like studying and I am a proud father because of that, but your family in this house is important, too,” he said to me.

“Kanye and I have nothing in common, Father,” I said. A displeased look crossed his face.

“You and your brother are going to get along and I don’t mind forcing it,” he said in a stern voice. He stood up. “Have fun tonight,” he said then walked out of the living room. Chancy came into the room with her face done up in make-up. She wore a jean one-piece with a pair of strappy-heeled sandals. Her thick hair was braided straight back into a style. Chancy was very beautiful. She had skin the color of a Hershey’s bar. Her eyes slanted in the corners and she had a pair of full, pretty lips. Her cheekbones were strong, showing off her Indian roots. She was slimmer than Baneet and Monifa but she was just as beautiful. She flirted a lot and was a bit wild, but her personality could light up the room. Anik had the same personality and so did Baneet. They all had an aura about them that made everything seem peaceful.

“Let’s go!” she said then pulled me out of the door.

Chancy sat in the passenger seat of my car, talking and giggling. I laughed at a few of her jokes.

“You have a beautiful smile, Akea,” she said then I looked at her.

“You have one, too,” I said to her.

“Are you a virgin?” she asked me. I almost swerved my car off the road.

“Ummm, no,” I said. She looked at me then crossed her arms.

“You’ve been with someone?” she asked me.

“Yes, a girl that was in my science club,” I answered.

“What is her name?” she asked me.

  “Sarah, Sarah Baxter,” I answered.

“What immortal has a name like that?” she asked.

  “She is human,” I replied.

We pulled up to the mall. I parked my car then got out to let Chancy out. She grabbed my hand then strutted toward the movie theatre. I paid for our tickets then went to the popcorn and candy stand.

“I didn’t think I would run into you here,” a voice said from behind me. When I turned around it was Sarah staring at me with her blue eyes.

“The movie is about to start,” Chancy said. When she saw Sarah and I looking at each other she froze.

“You know her or something?” Chancy asked.

“My name is Sarah and we were in the same science club,” she said.

“Ohhhhh, you are Sarah? Mrs. Sarah Baxter?” Chancy asked with an attitude.

“Yes, and you are?” Sarah asked as her friends stood behind her uncomfortably because of Chancy’s attitude.

“I’m his girlfriend. Now, let’s go, Akea,” Chancy spat then shoved her popcorn and candy in my arms. I looked at Sarah then followed Chancy.

Chancy didn’t say anything to me as we watched the zombie movie. All the other females in the movie theatre snuggled up under their dates. Chancy sat quietly with her eyes straight forward.

“Did I hurt you?” I asked Chancy. Her yellow-brownish eyes stared at me then turned back to their normal color.

“Is she the reason why you don’t feel comfortable around me? Is it my skin?” she asked me.

“Why would you ask me that?” I asked her.

“Sarah is whiter than my damn popcorn, Akea,” Chancy spat.

“It was just something that happened. I think your skin is beautiful,” I said to her then she smiled.

  “Kiss me,” she said.

  “Right now?” I asked.

“Yes, I want you to kiss me,” she said. I leaned forward then placed my lips on Chancy’s glossed ones. I kissed her then she slipped her tongue inside my mouth.

“Suck on my tongue!” her voice said inside my head. I gently sucked on her tongue then she pulled away from me. She lay her head on my shoulder. When I looked down the aisle, Sarah and her friends stared at me.

“That will teach them bitches not to stare!” Chancy said. I had a feeling that Chancy was going to turn my world upside down in a good and bad way.

I lay in bed while one of the servants rubbed my back. My father had me training for a whole day to become a great warrior. I was the son of King Baki and Queen Jalesa of Anubi. My aunt Neda came into my room. She sent the servant away.

“What do you want, Neda?” I asked her. Neda is my father’s sister. Rumor around Anubi is that an old warlock got inside her mother’s womb. Neda’s mother died when she gave birth to her and my father raised her. I was born a year after Neda was born. She was like my sister instead of my aunt. She pulled a globe out of her pocket.

“What is that?” I asked her.

“This is Earth. The place where your uncle Akua lives. He is Ammon’s second son, the black wolf. He killed my father,” she said.

“Ammon was a bad wolf and made Anubi a bad place. Watch how you speak!” I said to her then she laughed.

“You are brainwashed but I will not be. Ammon was a great warrior. Drawings of him are all over this temple,” she said.

“That was before greed and power killed him. I don’t care about Ammon or Earth,” I said to her.

“I want to show you something,” she said. I followed Neda into her sanctuary then she closed the door. She told me to have a seat so I sat down across from her.

“I have something that will make you stronger. You will not need to train so much,” she said then sat a cup down in front of me.

  “W
hat is that?” I asked as I sniffed it.

“Water from the Nile River. That’s the river Akua drank from and he became stronger. He is even stronger than your father’s beast,” she said. She sat the globe down in front of me then showed me a big, black beast with blue eyes. I picked up the globe and watched the black beast run through the woods. His beast was strong and had the strength of ten warriors.

“I have never seen anything like it,” I said to Neda.

“His eyes are the color of the Nile River because he drank the water,” she replied.

  “I didn’t hear that story,” I replied.

“That’s because Anubi doesn’t want us to know everything. This place holds many secrets. Now drink the water so you can be strong like your uncle,” she said to me. I pushed the cup away.

“I will do it the right way as my father did. He practiced every day and so will I,” I said. I stood up then walked toward the door but she blocked me in.

“What are you doing?” I asked her when I turned around. Neda stared at me with glowing eyes.

“I didn’t want to force it but now I have to,” she said then a force held me down. I tried to shift but I couldn’t. My growls were muffled out. “You are such a fool,” she said. She grabbed a bat from her cage in the corner of her room. It made noises as she carried it over to me.

“Back in the dark times in Egypt, our gods were cat and werewolf people. Everyone worshipped the two but there was another god nobody spoke of. It was a god that sucked the blood out of a human’s life. The warriors captured him because they feared him. They thought he was the devil because he couldn’t stand daylight. He was very different from the other two gods because he didn’t shift into a beast. The warriors held him out in the sun where his body turned to ash. His ashes were kept in an urn and I found it. It was in the dungeon downstairs in this temple. I gave him life from those ashes through this bat. This bat will bite you then kill you. Your heart will not beat anymore and your beast will be no more. You will be reborn as a vampire. You will be casted away to Earth because Anubi will fear you. I wonder how your coward father will feel about his only son being a vampire. It’s nothing against you, my wrath is against your father and all that he stands for. He watched my father die and did nothing, and now he will watch his son hunt and feed on his own people,” Neda said to me. The bat latched onto my neck then sucked the life out of me until I stopped breathing…
