“We didn’t agree on how I would release him,” Voss counters. “Take the women to their cells!”

The smaller guy grabs Nadia by the back of her shirt, holding her an arm’s length away from the front of his body and being careful not to touch her skin.

“What are you doing?” she exclaims. “Let go of me!”

“You’re as powerful as the witch, maybe more so,” Voss explains. “Even though your methods are rather…unconventional. We’ll see if it’s possible to breed more of your kind. The succubus kids can grow up with Harper’s witches and warlocks. We’ll make the strongest supernatural army the world has ever seen!”

“Voss, wait. I’m-I’m already pregnant!” Harper blurts out. “Don’t hurt me! You can’t!”

“Well, what do you know. I thought you had gained a few pounds, but you’re actually showing,” Voss says excitedly. “Are they my son’s?”

“Yes,” Harper answers. “They’re Kingston’s. Your grandkids!”

“Hmm. Too bad he’ll never get the chance to meet them,” he says without even a hint of remorse.

  Nadia

This dude is a raging asshole!

Breaking free of the guy holding me, I launch myself at the guy Harper called Voss. The idiots who work for him stupidly left my hands free in the van, only worried about Harper on the way back to their bad guy lair or whatever.

I get my hands around Voss’s neck, but there’s even that stupid metal armor there.

“You can’t hurt me in this!” he says while his guy tries to pull me off of him.

“You can do it, Nadia!” Harper yells. “Voss keeps underestimating us. Clothes and even metal may block the intensity, but nothing can stop a powerful succubus from taking whatever she wants!”

  “That’s garbage!” Voss responds.

“Oh yeah?” Harper asks. “Well, we’re about to find out just how stupid you really are!”

“Get her off of me!” Voss shouts. “Kill the warlock!”

“Touch him and you’ll be next!” I growl at the henchman just when I start to feel an invisible thread connecting me to Voss. Unlike with the guys, I don’t want to soak him up and reveal in his life force. I want to destroy his energy. Destroy him.

I keep pulling on the lifeline in a tug of war – one that I’m slowly but surely winning.

When Voss drops to his knees, I know I have him. His life is mine for the taking. It feels wrong, but there’s no other option. I will not be this man’s prisoner or let him hurt anyone else again!

  Chapter 27

  Cash

  Nadia is a fucking badass.

By the time the guys and I bust into the basement of the rundown warehouse with half of us armed, Voss is already on his knees. At least I assume it’s him in the ridiculous armor. Guess it could be one of the other two former masters.

Since my girl seems to have him under control and his goons are bug eyed and worried now that they’re outnumbered and their boss is in trouble, I go straight over to help Zaine, biting my wrist on the short run down the stairs and then shoving it against his lips.

“Drink up,” I tell him. Zaine takes deep pulls as if he knows his life is literally hanging in the balance.

  The bastard can’t die.

That would kill Nadia, and then I would be miserable. I would probably even miss the son of a bitch too. Who would cause trouble and keep life interesting without him around?

Hooking an arm around his waist, I lift him up and then jump up to grab the hook Zaine’s wrists are hanging on. With a rough jerk using my vampire strength, it comes right out of the ceiling.

As I lower Zaine to the ground, I look back over to Nadia and watch as Kingston goes over and tells her, “I’ll take it from here, sweetheart.”

Her head whips around, and her eyes lock on him with something I’ve never seen in them before. She looks…ruthless and like she’s enjoying Voss’s pain. But then her gaze lands on me and Zaine, and she pulls her hands away from Voss’s throat.

Kingston rips the helmet off, revealing it’s most definitely Voss. Then, he places the muzzle of the gun right against his father’s forehead and pulls the trigger, shooting him through his skull and making everyone in the room flinch, especially his two goons as crimson rains down on everything around them.

“Thank you,” Nadia says to Kingston, sounding relieved that she wasn’t the one who took his life.

“If anyone should have to feel a second of guilt for killing the abusive asshole, it should be me, his own son,” Kingston grumbles, but Nadia is already rushing over to us. She kneels down to hug Zaine first and then me. I don’t take the order personally since Z was the one who nearly died.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” she says while wiping away tears from under her eyes.

“Are you okay?” I ask, clutching her face between my palms to make her look at me. Her eyes are red and swollen, her face bruised along one cheek. She looks exhausted and relieved.

“Yeah,” she answers as she presses her lips to mine. “Let me touch you. I need to get rid of his icky soul.”

“Touch me all you want,” I tell her. “But I don’t think I have a soul, darlin’.”

“You do,” Nadia says between kisses. “And it’s good. And kind. And it belongs with mine.”

“Nice to know,” I reply before I lose myself in our kiss. I feel her pulling on my heart strings, or maybe it is my soul, and I freely give her everything she wants or needs.

When Nadia eventually pulls away, she says, “Thank you for finding us. I knew you all would save the day.”

“It looked like you were doing all the saving,” I reply honestly. “We were just reinforcements.”

“Don’t mind me,” Zaine says. “I’m gonna be fine, too. I don’t think anything major is broken…”

“Thank god,” Nadia says on a sigh. “Come on. We should probably get Zaine to the hospital.”

“Yeah,” I agree as I help her to her feet and then Zaine to his, keeping an arm around him just in case.

“Are we good here?” I ask Drake, Kingston and Rowan, who are hovering around Harper, making sure she’s all right.

“Yeah, we’ll take care of disposing of the body,” Drake replies. “You take care of Zaine.”

“I’ll check in with you all later,” I tell him. “Fuck, I really hope things will start calming down now.” Looking over to Evander, who is talking with Trent about handling Voss’s goons who are now tied up with rope, I call out to him, “Hey, psychic! Will things finally settle down around here now?”

“Ah, about that, we’re mostly caught up to all the visions I had before coming here,” he agrees. “But if I had to bet, I’m guessing there’s nothing in the future that this group won’t be able to handle.”
