“Easy there,” he said, reaching over with his free hand provide extra support when she stumbled, just outside the doorway. She brushed his hand away.

“What are you doing?” she demanded.

“Walking you back to your room?” He sounded confused as to why she would ask.

He hit the button for the elevator.

“No,” she said. “I mean, why do you even care if I make it back to my room? I haven’t heard from you in nearly a decade.” As she spoke, the elevator arrived, and she leaned on him as they walked into it. “Then, I finally see you, after all this time, and you act as if you don’t remember me. Like I am nothing to you. Do you know how that felt? To walk down that aisle and see nothing but indifference on your face?” Angrily, she stumbled out of the elevator as it reached her floor.

“Come on,” he said with a sigh. “Let’s get you back to your room. What number?”

“621,” she said, handing him her key. He led her to the correct room and opened the door for her.

  “Good night, Mia,” he said.

“You didn’t answer me,” she accused him, grabbing his arm as he turned to walk away. “Why are you doing this? If I mean nothing to you, why did you even bother?”

For a moment he was still, and then swiftly he turned, grabbed her face in both of his hands and kissed her. Without even thinking about it, she wrapped her arms around him. To have her arms around him just felt so right. This is where she belonged.

She pulled him into the hotel room with her. The door swung shut behind them.

Mia reached up to put her hands on his neck, but he grabbed a wrist with each hand. Using the weight of his body, he pushed her back against the door, pinning her hands against the strong wood, just above her head. He broke off the kiss, and for a moment, he just looked at her.

“You will never mean nothing to me, you understand?” His voice was so filled with lust that it was practically a growl. She nodded. He leaned his head down slightly to kiss her again, this time thrusting his tongue possessively into her mouth. Her knees felt as if they had been turned to jelly. If his body had not been pressing hers back against the door, she might have collapsed.

As they kissed, he released her wrists, so that he could return his hands to her head. He buried his fingers in her thick golden hair while his tongue ravaged her mouth. Her blood felt like fire in her veins. She felt an ache between her legs, just begging for him to fill her. Will released her mouth and began kissing her neck and shoulders.

“I want you to make love with me tonight,” she murmured. He froze. Slowly he pulled away. She reached behind her to undo the zipper on her dress.

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea, Mia,” he said cautiously, beginning to back slowly away. Mia let her dress fall to the floor. She could see the arousal in Will’s eyes as he looked at her in her lingerie. As he backed away, she closed the gap between them, pushing him back toward the bed.

“Why not?” she asked. She reached down and grabbed his erection through his trousers. He groaned slightly before pushing her hand away. “I can tell you want me.”

“I do,” he admitted. “But you’re drunk, Mia.”

  “So what?” she said.

“You can’t give consent when you’re drunk,” he told her.

“You also can’t give consent when you’re 17,” she pointed out. She put both hands on his chest and pushed, making him fall back against the bed. Before he could recover, she climbed on top of him. “That never used to bother us.”

“We were both kids then, Mia,” he reminded her, reaching up to caress her face gently.

“Kids?’ she laughed. “You wanted to get married.”

“I remember,” he said. She could hear the pain in his voice. Her rejection had really hurt him – enough to make him run away for eight years without so much as a phone call to let her know he was all right.

“Will,” she began. “I’ve thought a lot about that night, and I want you to know…” She trailed off, unsure how to continue. Will took the opportunity to roll them over so that she was not lying on top of him anymore.

“Let’s talk about that later,” he suggested. He sat up. “Right now, you need sleep.”

“I want to talk about it now, Will,” she said. She wanted to tell him how much she loved him. She wanted to tell him how many times she daydreamed about what her life would have been like if she had said yes when he proposed. She wanted to tell him everything, but her head felt so fuzzy. She tried to continue, “There is so much I want to say. I just can’t seem to find the right words, and I am so dizzy…” She raised a hand to hold her aching head.

“You need water,” he told her. He got up and filled a glass in the bathroom sink. She had trouble sitting up, so he sat next to her and let her lean on him as he helped her drink the water.

“Better?” he asked. She nodded, and he laid her gently down back on the bed.

He glanced around until he saw her suitcase. After rooting around in it for a minute, he found her nightgown.

“Come here,” he ordered. She crawled across the bed to where he stood. She raised her arms, so Will could slip the nightgown onto her body. Mia looked up at him petulantly. She wanted to be wearing less clothing, not more.

“I don’t want to go to sleep,” she told him. “I want to kiss you some more. I want to feel your hands on my body and your cock inside me.” She could hear how slurred her voice was. Honestly, she was starting to feel sort of tired. Maybe if she just closed her eyes for a second…

“Nice try, but no,” he told her. “I’m not that teenager who still loses control when I hear you say the word ‘cock.’ Go to sleep.” He kissed her lightly on the forehead before getting up and walking away from the bed.

“Wait,” she called after him. At the sound of her voice, he paused. “Please don’t go.” She knew how weak her voice sounded, but she didn’t care. After that kiss, she could not bear the thought of being parted from him. “Stay with me.” She wanted nothing in the world more than to feel his arms around her, holding her close as she slept.

For a moment he stood still, thinking about it. He must have decided that he could not be parted from her either because he deliberately reached towards the wall and flipped the switch to turn out the light. There was enough moonlight coming through the window that he could find his way back to the bed.

She smiled as he sat down and began taking off his left shoe. Then he reached down and took off the prosthetic he wore in place of his right foot.

“I heard about that,” she murmured. “Does it hurt?”

“No,” he answered shortly. Mia reached over to gently caress his back in quiet comfort. Will reached back and held her hand for a moment. Then he let go to take off his bowtie. Soon he was wearing just his white undershirt and his boxers. He slipped under the covers to join her in bed. The last thing she felt before she drifted off to sleep was Will curling his strong body around hers. For the first time in a long time, Mia felt like she was home.

  Chapter 6

Mia awoke to the sound of someone pounding on her door.

“Mia!” Emily yelled. “I need you!” Mia rolled over and reached for Will, but her searching hands found only air. Suddenly she was wide awake.

“Mia!” called Emily. “Are you all right?”

“Just a second,” she called back as she hurried out of bed to open the door. Emily burst into the room in a tizzy.

“There you are!” she exclaimed. “I don’t know what to do! The flowers have arrived and they’re all pink instead of purple, and Kathleen is furious, and everything is ruined!”

“It’s going to be okay, Emily,” said Mia, putting a firm hand on each of her shoulders to make her stay still for a moment. “Do you like the flowers?”

“Yes, I suppose they’re pretty, but they’re not what we ordered, and Kathleen said -”

“If you like them, then they’ll do,” Mia interrupted her.

  “But Kathleen…”
/>   “Is not getting married today,” Mia reminded Emily. “Will you and Matt be any less married if the flowers are pink?”

  “Of course not.”

“Then it doesn’t matter,” Mia said. “I’m going to go use the restroom. You just sit down and relax.”

Emily sighed and sat down in a chair near the bed. When Mia came back into the room, however, Emily was back on her feet.

“What’s this?” she asked, holding up a small piece of fabric. It was Will’s bowtie.

“It’s not what you think,” Mia began to explain.

“A one-night stand with a guy you haven’t seen since you refused to marry him in high school?” Emily supplied.

“No,” said Mia. “I’m not going to lie - I was all for it. Will, however, was too much of a gentleman to do more than kiss me. He did sneak out in the morning before I woke up though, so I guess you get partial credit.”

“Well shit,” said Emily, sitting down on the bed.

“Pretty much,” agreed Mia, sitting beside her.

  Chapter 7

As the pastor was speaking, Mia did not hear a single word she said. The whole ceremony long, she found herself fully occupied with trying not to stare at Will. Last night she had been horny, but today she had a headache and was pissed. Sneaking out was a dick move. They had so much to talk about, and he had just disappeared.

She forced herself to focus on the ceremony when Emily and Matt started saying their vows. They had both opted to speak the traditional vows rather than writing their own. Emily was very traditional like that.

Mia felt her eyes filling with tears as Emily promised to take Matt to be her lawfully wedded husband till death do they part. It was so beautiful, and her friend was so happy. She smiled through her tears as the pastor pronounced them man and wife. Mia hoped that one day she could be half as happy as Emily looked.

At the reception, she was seated next to Will again.

“So you snuck out rather early this morning,” she commented.

“I didn’t sneak out.” He sounded offended. “You were asleep, and I didn’t want to wake you.”

“You were in enough of a hurry that you forgot your bowtie,” she countered, raising an amused eyebrow.

  “Did I really?” he laughed.

“Emily found it when she came to wake me up with a florist emergency,” Mia confirmed. Will winced.

“What did you tell her?” he asked.

“The truth of course,” Mia told him. “I told her you stayed in my room last night, and then you felt compelled to sneak out after the sex we didn’t have.”

“I did not sneak out!” he protested.

“Oh you definitely snuck out. You were too afraid to actually keep your promise and talk with me.”

“Mia,” he said, his voice low, “I have never broken a promise to you. I said we could talk about it later, and we will.”

  “How about now?” she suggested.

  “Now?” he asked incredulously.

“Now,” she confirmed. “Just promise that you’ll hear me out, okay?” She waited until he nodded before she began to speak.

“When you proposed, I was seventeen. I was still in high school, and I was scared. My boyfriend was leaving to join the army, and I worried that I would be a widow as soon as I was a wife. I still do not believe I did anything wrong by making the choice I did. Logically speaking, it was the right choice to make.” She could see the pain in his face as she reminded him of that horrible night. Mia knew she had broken his heart. “However, that does not mean I was not completely, utterly, madly in love with you. The way you left, just disappearing like that without a word nearly killed me. I was a wreck the whole next year worrying about you.”

“I’m sorry Mia,” he said, taking hold of her hand. “I was a kid. I was hurt, and I was angry. I never expected you to reject me like that. It crushed me.”

“What are you two doing still sitting here!” Kathleen burst suddenly into their conversation. “You should be out there dancing! Set an example for the rest of the guests!”

“I’m not much of a dancer anymore, Kathy,” Will reminded her, pointing at his fake foot.

“I’ll have them play a slow one next,” she refused to be dissuaded. “Get out there, now!”

“Come on,” said Mia, standing up. When it came to Kathleen, it was best to pick your battles. “Dance with me. I still dance as badly as I ever did. You’ll look fantastic.”

As they made their way onto the dance floor, the DJ switched to a slow love ballad. Will pulled Mia into his arms, and they began to sway to the music.

“You know, even though logically speaking, I am sure I made the right choice, most days I wish I had said yes,” Mia murmured into his ear. She wasn’t quite brave enough to look him in the face.

  “So do I.”

Mia pulled back slightly to look him in the eyes. When she did, she could see he meant it.

“But yesterday,” she stammered. “When I first saw you, my heart stopped. You seemed like you did not even recognize me.”

“I was going crazy,” he confessed. “I was just forcing myself to stay calm and not react because I knew if I lost control for even a second I was going to pull you into my arms and try to make you regret ever saying no. When I saw the way you were flirting with that groomsman, I almost lost it.”

“Flirting?” she laughed. “Will, Zack is gay. We’re old friends, and I just thought talking to him might distract me from you.”

“But your hands were all over him,” protested Will.

“You know me – I get handsy when I’m drunk,” she reminded him. “You saw the embarrassment I made of myself last night.”

“Embarrassment?” he asked. He sounded slightly offended, which was just what she wanted to hear.

“Of course,” she said, trying to keep her voice light. “You have your rule – don’t sleep with drunks, and I have mine – don’t try to sleep with guys who clearly have no interest in sleeping with you.”

“You think I don’t want to sleep with you?” he asked.

“Well, I think you made that pretty clear last night,” she said. “It’s all right. I’m not offended. I know I don’t have the body I did when I was seventeen.”

“Now that’s just ridiculous. You are so much sexier than you were then. We were just kids. Now you’re a woman with real curves and everything. Trust me, you’re gorgeous. If Emily’s great Aunt Dorothy weren’t watching us, I would already be tearing your clothes off.”

“Really?” she asked softly. “Do you mean that?”

“So is this what we’re doing now? Playing games, being coy?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. She could tell he was amused.

“Hey – what can I say?” she shrugged. “I was feeling nostalgic. Want to ditch the party, go back to my room, and have sex?”

  “Absolutely.”

  Chapter 8

This time when Will kissed her, it was soft and gentle. There was no need to rush. They had all night. He held her close, and she melted into his arms. Gently, he kissed her eyelids, her cheeks, her neck, and finally her lips.

She sighed with pleasure, exploring the hard muscles of his back with her fingertips. She felt him reach around her and slowly unzip her dress. The pressure of his body against hers held it to her until he took a step away. She felt her dress slide down her body and onto the floor. She held his hand for balance as she stepped out of it.

“You are so incredibly beautiful,” he said, his eyes roaming over her body. When he had looked his fill, he pulled her back into his arms to kiss her once more.

As he kissed her, she began to pull his shirt out of his trousers. Then button by button, she slowly began removing it. Soon it had joined her dress on the floor. He yanked the white shirt he wore under it over his head. Once he was shirtless, he lifted her into his arms and carried her over to the bed. She laughed with glee when instead of setting her down gently, he tossed her onto the bed.

  “I love you so muc
h,” she told him as he stood beside the bed, admiring her while unbuckling his belt.

“I love you too.” Even if he hadn’t spoken, she would have known. His eyes said it all. In a moment, he was standing naked beside the bed. Will reached down and grabbed her by the waist. He pulled her to the edge of the bed so that he could reach around her to unhook her bra. Mia shivered slightly as the cool air touched her breast. Her nipples hardened with arousal and the chill.

For a second, Will just admired her. Then he reached down to assist her as she slipped out of her panties.

“You are unbelievably gorgeous, Mia.” When he looked at her like that, she believed him. He slid into bed beside her. Mia’s naked body was pressed against him. She could feel his hard arousal pressing against her leg as he bowed his head to kiss her breasts. Soon he covered her nipple with his hot, wet mouth. She moaned at the sensation.

As he kissed and sucked her breasts, she reached down to stroke his hard cock. He groaned with pleasure as she caressed him. He slipped his hand between them, sliding it down her tummy until he found her pussy. She was already so wet. He met no resistance at all when he slid a finger into her wet passage. Quickly he added another finger.

Slowly he began sliding his fingers in and out of her body while using his thumb to put some pressure on her clit. All the while, he kept teasing and sucking her breasts. Mia found herself moaning and panting with the overload of pleasure points he was stimulating. She needed more.
