Shame on It All

“Umph! Umph! Umph!” Robbie smiled lovingly at Lucky, admiring how beautiful she looked in the floor-length, off-the-shoulder, red evening gown. “You look absolutely scrumptious tonight, my love!”
Lucky blushed and returned the compliment. “You look mighty delectable your damn self. That tuxedo is all that!”
Robbie struck a pose, grabbing hold of his lapels and grimacing. “Nothing’s too good for my baby.”
“You’re too damn sweet, Boo.” Lucky embraced him and planted a big, wet kiss on his lips. “Are you going to keep me in suspense or are you ready to give up the 411 on where we’re headed tonight?”
“No, it’s a surprise!”
“Awwwwwwww, pretty please,” Lucky pouted, “with sugar on top!”
“Nope, I’m not giving in,” Robbie persisted. “You’ll just have to wait until we get there.”
Lucky rolled her eyes and smacked her lips. “Okay, but I just hope we’re not overdressed. I would hate to fall up into the Florida Avenue Grill sporting these type of clothes.”
They both chuckled.
“No pig’s feet and collard greens tonight.” Robbie giggled. “Since both your sisters are honeymooning in the islands, I wanted to do something extraspecial for you.”
“Soon, we’ll be honeymooning in the islands.”
“Most definitely, Baby,” Robbie concurred. “The second we both finish med school, I plan on jumping the broom with your fine ass!”
“You mean we can have the type of wedding I’ve always dreamed about?”
“Of course, Baby.” Robbie kissed her on the forehead. “No matter what type of wedding we have and no matter what type of gown you wear, you’ll always be the most beautiful woman in the world to me.” He paused, then added as an afterthought, “Even with one kidney, you’re still the bomb diggity!”
Lucky threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tight, hoping that the perfect feeling wouldn’t end. She was looking forward to the future. A long, happy marriage with Robbie, making a houseful of babies, and saving the lives of thousands of people. If somehow all of that wasn’t accomplished, it wouldn’t matter much because she had already saved one life, Harmony’s, and that was the most important life of all.
Robbie broke the embrace and glanced at his watch. “We better hurry if we’re going to make it to New York City in time for our dinner reservations.”
“New York City?” Lucky’s eyes lit up like moonbeams. “Aw, damn, do you have any idea how long I’ve been sweating going to NYC?”
“Well, the wait is over, my love!”
Robbie opened the door and held out his hand.
Lucky blushed excitedly when she spotted the white stretch limo parked outside. “NYC, here we come, and in the shiniest damn, whitest damn, longest damn limo I’ve ever seen. Shame on it all!”
