To Dakota, without her there wouldn’t be a Devil’s Playground. Together, we worked hours on our little niche of Carnivore Club. Thank you for teaming up with me to make a pretty sweet club I would definitely want to check out if it were real. To the readers, thank you for being here for this ride. I hope you enjoy Katarina and Thomas’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

  Chapter One

“Are you sure you want to go through with this?” Theo asked as he sat in his office at Teishutsu, finishing up some paperwork. Thomas Kenner stared up at the stubborn set of his twin’s chin and into his unyielding gray gaze. Theo worried too much about him. He should be happy Thomas had decided to let go of his fantasy girl. When his brother didn’t shift his position, Thomas pulled his glasses from his face and threw them on the table. He scrubbed his jaw, taking a second to compose himself.

“You should be happy I’m doing this. Weren’t you the one who said I needed to move on?” Madame Eve had promised him a night he would never forget. One he hoped would clear his mind of the one woman who could tie him in knots and had done so for the last four years. How a woman like her could bring him to his knees, he had no clue. As the owner of Teishutsu and co-owner of Kenner and Kenner Security, he could have any sub he wanted. But none of the pain sluts clamoring for his attention compared to her. And she wanted nothing to do with his form of pleasure-filled pain.

Katarina Lopez, a sexy Latina bombshell and a damn fine bodyguard, was a force to be reckoned with at a hair over five-and-a-half feet tall. On the few occasions their units had worked together in the deserts of Iraq, he’d been impressed with her poise and competence. He’d known she’d make an excellent addition to his staff. However, he hadn’t been prepared for his reaction to her when she strolled into his office some years later. Away from the noise and stress of war, instead of a soldier…he saw a woman. A desirable, delicious woman. He wanted to devour every inch of her curvy body, to watch her hazel-blue eyes glitter with desire as he thrust deep into her tight pussy over and over again. Craved her full pouty lips wrapped around his cock, sucking him until his sac grew heavy and he painted the back of her throat with his cum. Fuck, he needed to get a grip—which had become harder to do since the first day she’d set foot in his domain. With the club and the security company housed on the same property, he’d taken a chance and showed her everything. The subtle signals he gleaned from her in the field seemed amplified once she set foot in the club. Watching her explore the first floor of Teishutsu cemented his assessment of her. There was reverence in her touch. In the way she explored her surroundings.

Several days after he’d extended the offer of membership, Thomas began to doubt whether his observations about her had been correct. Glimpses of her submissive nature on the battlefield, though covered by some retort or fancy foul language, had piqued his curiosity. When she’d brought in all of her medical records and signed consent forms, relieved at her acceptance, he’d begun plotting a way to get her alone and tied to his bed. Yet, in the time she’d been a member, he’d never observed Katarina participate in or watch any of the scenes on the main floor, including his. The two or three Doms who’d spent time with her reported Katarina refused any form of pain. Damn it, why did I have to get my hopes up?

“You should be playing here.” Theo could be a little hardheaded when he wanted to be. “I’ll get Misty ready for you tonight. Forget about this stupid date. You don’t need Madame Eve.”

“Listen to yourself. What the hell is your damage?” Thomas pushed away from his desk and stood up. “I told you, I’m doing this so I can go back to playing with our subs. I’ll only be gone for two days.” Long enough to fuck Katarina out of my system.

“You’re going because of her.” Theo stated a fact both of them knew. “I get it, bro. She’s a great employee. She does shit you and I would never do, but your dick shouldn’t be in a knot over her.” Theo paced a hole in the floor while running his fingers through his military-short gray hair. “You’re too old for this shit.”

Thomas laughed. “Said the pot to the kettle.”

“I’m not fucking around here, man.” His brother stopped and glared at Thomas.

“Nor am I. I am going to have a good time and, when I get home, everything will be better. You should be happy about that, asshole.” At least Thomas hoped everything would be better. A tiny part of him scoffed at the thought. When his brother didn’t say anything else, he pulled two folders from his top desk drawer. “Doug should be making contact in twelve hours. His contact is Sato Yakimosho. If you don’t hear from him, send Bullock after his ass.”

“The fucker already called in. He’s holed up outside Tokyo. Sato showed up already, and we’ll know more in thirty-six hours.”

Perfect. By then he’d be on the plane back to Los Angeles.

“Then what am I doing sitting here? I have shit to do. Like pack.” Excitement coursed through him at the prospect of relieving some of the building tension welling inside him. However when he glanced back down at the file in front of him, Thomas sobered. “Camilla’s supposed to be here this weekend, but she called off a couple of hours ago. If she changes her mind and happens to show up….” Camilla was skittish at best and downright terrified at her worst.
<
br />   His brother’s expression hardened. “Alex got too touchy-feely last time.” Not really. But, the conversation would have to wait for another day.

“Well, then, you’re in control tonight.” Clapping his brother on the shoulder, Thomas stepped out of his office.

“Hey,” Theo called after him. “Have fun tonight.”

  “You know it.”

“Southwest flight 5906 to Las Vegas is now boarding at gate C-6.” The announcement brought Thomas out of his wandering thoughts. Standing, he grabbed his toy bag and overnight satchel then headed for the gate. His trip already started out with a bang. After walking through Security, he’d been taken aside and his toy bag searched. Of course, nothing in there bothered him. He wasn’t ashamed of his proclivities. As a matter of fact, he’d offered to demonstrate his flogger on a pretty little TSA bunny named Shelly.

She’d giggled, turned five different shades of red, and declined. Oh well, maybe another day. Thomas gave his ticket to the woman standing by the Jetway. When she scanned it, she wished him safe travels and Thomas nodded. From the minute he strode out of Teishutsu, his stomach had been in knots. A part of him worried about making the worst mistake of his life. No matter how many times he told himself it was for the right reason, a small part of his brain said, what if?

However, he’d pressed on. He’d packed a set of travel clothes and his leathers and taken a cab to the airport. Nothing would change his decision. He needed to deal with the ghost of Katarina the best way possible. He would continue to be her boss, but if he could find an outlet for slaking his lust, so be it. Maybe he would talk to the owner of the Carnivore Club, if he enjoyed the evening, Thomas would obtain a membership. Silly to join another club when he owned his own, but if it cleared the thoughts of Katarina from his mind, so be it. Whatever it takes.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Kenner. Let me show you to your seat.” A beautiful, smiling brunette settled him into first-class section of the cabin. “Would you care for anything to drink, sir?”

“No, thank you.” He pushed his satchel into the overhead bin. When she left his side, he took his seat, placing his toy bag between his feet. While the other passengers stored their luggage, he pulled the small packet of information out. The intel on his date had been slim pickings. No name, no picture. He had no idea what Madame Eve played at sending him that file, but if Kit, his friend and one of the Dommes at his club trusted her, he supposed he could do the same.

Thomas noted his date did like some impact play. She had experience with floggers, crops, clamps, edging…. Shit. His dick stiffened in the confines of his slacks, but deflated when he saw four little words. No extreme pain play. A rough growl of frustration passed his lips as the flight attendants went through the pre-flight check and instructions. Theo might have been right. He should have found a willing sub at the club and stayed home. But with the doors closed and the plane taxiing down the tarmac, easy retreat had disappeared. Son of a bitch, this is the last time I use 1Night Stand.

As soon as the plane landed in Las Vegas, he would cancel his date, jump on a flight back to Ontario, or, better yet, rent a car and drive home. He could use the time for plotting and planning. Thomas pushed the papers aside. He didn’t want to look at them again. It did no good at this point. Without a sub who enjoyed his brand of pain with her pleasure, he would get nothing out of the festivities.

Thomas supposed he presented the image of a petulant child slumped down in his chair, arms crossed over his chest, but he didn’t care. His eyes were drawn back to the paperwork. Careful now, curiosity killed the cat. Not if he didn’t give in to the temptation, and he wouldn’t…maybe. He wouldn’t go through with the date, so what stopped him from reading the rest of the girl’s information? Call it brushing up on your investigative skills. Yes, because treating her as though she is a case helps so much more. “Dammit,” he muttered, picking up the file again.

By the time the plane landed, the idea of missing out on a good time had made him twitchy as hell. So he wouldn’t get to relieve all of his tension. The girl loved some impact play. He could edge her. Tease and torture her. His dick twitched, stiffening behind the fly of his pants. Good to see you’re on board with the idea, too. Grabbing his things, Thomas exited the plane and made his way through the terminal. Outside, it was a bit nippy, probably mid-fifties, but he’d take the crystal-clear weather over SoCal smog any day.

Lifting his hand to hail a cab, Thomas stopped short as a young man dressed in a three-piece suit, touched his arm. “Mr. Kenner?”

“Yeah? Who are you?” he asked.

“My name is Paul.” He grinned, holding out his gloved hand. “The Carnivore Club is expecting you, Sir.” His gaze lowered for a moment in a classic submissive gesture.

“Great,” he said. “Lead the way.”

Paul led him to a black BMW SUV parked at the curb. He opened the back and placed Thomas’s bags in the vehicle then closed the hatch.

Once they were situated inside the SUV, Paul pulled away from the curb. “So, did you have a good flight?”

“Something like that,” Thomas said. “How long is the drive?”

“About twenty minutes. Sit back and enjoy.” He maneuvered through the early evening traffic.

The lights of the strip flashed as they passed by all the big hotels nestled within the city proper. A new city, a new start. While you’re here, don’t even think about Katarina. This is your way of starting over. Clean the little Latina sweetheart out of your mind. You can thank yourself later. Or curse his stupidity.

They came to a stop in front of the hotel and were greeted by the bright lights flashing the hotel/resort’s name. This is not what I expected. To be honest, he hadn’t known what to expect. But a classy, opulent hotel hadn’t even entered his ideas of what the Carnivore Club should be. Thomas figured the club would be grungy, dark. Almost mysterious. Hidden away from the flashy marquees and upscale high-roller clubs. A naughty secret few knew about. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Out of the corner of Thomas’s eye, he watched his driver place his bags on the curb. “You didn’t have to do all that, Paul,” he said when the man opened the door for him. “I could have gotten my bags out of the back.” He clapped the kid on the back.

Thomas grabbed his bags and stepped through the sliding glass door into the lobby. Polished marble floors and vaulted ceilings paved the way to the front desk.

“Welcome, Mr. Kenner,” a little blonde dressed as a twenties flapper greeted him. The dress she wore hung from her frame but still enhanced her curves. The front of her hair done in finger waves and adorned by a feathered headpiece gave her an authentic look. Thomas paused and narrowed his eyes, studying her. Had they fucked before and he couldn’t remember? Dressed as she’d been, he couldn’t place her.

  “Do we know each other?”

She grinned. The corners of her green eyes crinkled. A dimple graced her left cheek. “No, my name is Bonnie.”

“Bonnie, as in Bonnie and Clyde?”

“That’s the one.” She grinned. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Thomas.” Bonnie led him over to the check-in counter. “How was your flight?”

“Uh, good I guess.” He studied her for a moment more then spoke again. “You have me at a disadvantage. How do you know who I am?”

“It our little secret.” She winked. “But, rest assured, you’re in very capable hands.” She gave him a key card. “You’re in room 502. Enjoy your stay, and I hope our paths will cross again.”

“Damn.” He snorted. “You’re laying it on pretty thick, little girl. Maybe I will see you later.” The night was looking up. Thomas picked up his bags and went in search of his room. “What a way to forget about Katarina.”

  Chapter Two

Katarina frowned at her reflection in the mirror. No way in hell could she pull off the part of a virgin maiden. Why the hell had she let Frankie talk her into this? Sure, her best friend knew she had the hots for the sadist Dom, T
homas, but that didn’t mean she could go through with this date. Besides, she’d sworn off him. Not that he didn’t trip her trigger. Quite the opposite. The man exuded power and prestige—a two-panty-a-day kind of guy—which, in her group of girlfriends, meant her panties became soaked with a single look. But he liked pain and she…pain brought back too many memories for her.

Katarina knew a therapist would tell her she suffered from PTSD. After spending three tours in Iraq, most of it on the front line, PTSD was almost a given. The shit she’d seen made death look normal.

After so long, the chaos and terror seemed almost normal. She’d gotten up every morning, dressed in her uniform, and gone to work. If she arrived back at camp when the sun went down, awesome. She’d lived another day to do the job once again. If not, it meant the good Lord had been ready to take her home. You fought the good fight, blah, freaking blah, blah, blah.

Her hand trembled as blasts of gunfire and screams filled her mind. Katarina closed her eyes and sucked in a deep, steadying breath. You’re not there anymore. You’re safe. It’s a distant memory. She threw the soft tube of pink lip gloss onto the side of the sink and sighed. This is a mistake. I can’t do this.

Images of Frankie kicking her ass replaced the gunfire and screams. Her friend would have forced her to face this shit head on, even when she wanted to hide. Frankie was her personal ass kicker. Part of the reason she enjoyed hanging out with the girls at the club was because they pushed her out of her comfort zone. Six months had passed since she’d first set foot in Teishutsu. None of the Doms did a damn thing for her anymore. They didn’t even make her float the line between consciousness and subspace. Sure, she blamed herself, not them. They didn’t have that click factor for her. In all honesty, the only one she could have clicked with was Thomas. A sadist. A predator in a three-piece suit. She always felt as though she were an antelope being chased by a cougar when he strolled around the club.
