“Man, did y’all niggas hear me?” Q was pissed that instead of his boys listening to him they were laughing at his ass.

“Man, I dunno. Q bitch got a bad ass shape though,” Black said still laughing.

“Bay-Bay you gonna stop laughing at me nigga! That shit ain’t funny.” Q was pissed off.

“Fuck her shape nigga you can have her ass! I’m changing my fucking number tomorrow. She knew better than that shit,” Q told them.

“Shit, I would give her my number, but I’m goin’ pass on that shit.” Black said.

“That bitch couldn’t even suck on my dick. She might give me gingivitis!” Bay-Bay said putting his two cents in. They all laughed in unison.

“Yo, squash that shit. Let’s watch these bitches shake they asses, and talk about this money,” Black said. He was ready to get down to business.

“I’ve been looking at every angle that we can go fucking with da nigga Sosa, but his operation is locked. He keeps his dealings with me to a minimum, so I don’t know how the fuck we can take over. I got a plan though on how we can do it, but I’m gonna need my two right hand niggas with me on this one.” Black said.

“Yo, we in all the way my nig,” Bay told him, and Q agreed.

“A’ight bet!” Black told them continuing.

“Yo, those country ass broads we met last weekend look like the ticket. We fuck with ‘em spend a little dough to make it look sincere, and make them bitches rob his most profitable drug houses in the five Boras. Give ‘em bout two or three grand each and bounce. Shit, they don’t know how to count up dope, so they’ll never know whats going on,” Black explained. They all agreed to put everything in motion very soon.

“Up next we have who you all been waiting for! Ms Lollie Pop!” The Mc said over the club’s speakers.

“Oh, hell yeah here come my future wife,” Q said rubbing his hands together.

Bay-Bay drifted into a daze thinking about his life. How he wished some day he could change everything around him and live a decent life with a wife and maybe some kids. He also knew that Black would crush him if he ever found out the real way he felt.

Bay-Bay grew up in a fucked up situation. He always wanted money, so that he didn’t have to live like he did when he was younger. He never knew his father. That sorry ass nigga left after he turned a year old. Katana, his mother was seven months pregnant with his baby brother Shymeek.

Katana was a heroin addict and sold her body to support her habit. When she couldn’t get her daily amount of drugs she would beat Bay and his brother so badly that they would have to hide in the closet to keep from getting beat even worse.

Most of the time there was no food for them to eat and they would have to go to bed hungry. Because their father was out of their lives and their mother cared more for her addiction than she did for her own children, Bay-Bay was forced to grow up way before his time.

Bay could remember all the times he had to feed and clothe his baby brother. After playing the role of being the man of the house, he became accustomed to not having much for himself. If there was no food in the house he would make sure that his little brother ate no matter what. It didn’t matter if he had to give him his share, or go to the local market and steal something to eat.

One day after school Bay was excited to get home because it was his baby brothers 9th birthday. Bay-Bay had got a bullshit job delivering groceries for an Arab for next to nothing. He gave him ten dollars a week, which was not worth the shit he had to do. This week Shamil decided to give him twenty dollars because he knew how much it meant to young Bay-Bay to surprise his brother with something on his birthday.

After he picked up the cash from Shamil he picked up a few items from the ninenty nine cent store and headed home.

When he arrived home he saw his mother laid across the coffee table with blood pouring from her face. She was not breathing and all of her clothes were torn off. Bay-Bay stood frozen for a moment. He snapped out of his trance and began his search for his baby brother to no avail.

He started yelling at the top of his lungs for Shymeek. He went to the hiding spot they used to go to when his mother was on a war path for drugs. Bay opened his mother’s closet door afraid of what he might see, but Shymeek wasn’t there. He finally looked in their small bedroom that they shared. Bay-Bay was relieved to see him under his covers hiding.

“Man what you doing? I’ve been calling for you.” Bay pulled the covers off his brother but stood frozen. His heart was beating so fast and hard you could probably see it through his shirt. He didn’t know what was going on, or if who had came in and killed his family would come back to finish the job. With that thought he grabbed a small plastic grocery bag and gathered what he could find. He went to his best friend Frankie’s house. He would have to mourn his loss later. He talked his friend Frankie into asking his mother if he could stay for a few days. Thankfully she agreed and he at least had somewhere to lay his head for now.

After a while he went to stay with his aunt. Life with her wasn’t peaches and cream either because she was a base head too. He was afraid to go back to the PJ’s where he lived with his mother and brother because of the questions he might be asked. He was sure that Child Protective Services would be looking for him along with the police, so he decided to just stay away.

Over the next few years he lived from pillar to post. He stayed in crack houses with friends, and sometimes at his aunt Nina’s crib. Shamar had become used to the street life. It had been his natural habitat since he was eleven.

Even though Shamar didn’t have a place to stay he still went to school during the day and got his hustle on at night. His mother always told him how important getting an education was. It was the one positive thing she taught him.

Shamar first met Terron aka Black, friend and drug supplier, one night when he was out on the block with his boy. He and his boys saw this big ass beefy nigga getting beat down by six or seven young cats.

At first he wasn’t paying those niggas any mind because he didn’t know them. He got a closer look and recognized the nigga getting the breaks beat off of him. He was a small time drug dealer that was mad flashy, but mad cool around the way. They never spoke to one another but they respected each other’s space. That’s why Bay felt like he had to break it up because the nigga fucked with every outside nigga on the block trying to hustle, but not him.

Bay-Bay took the last draw of his Optimo and threw it to the ground. He pulled his 9mm from his waist band and cocked it back in case he needed it. He was against murder but wanted to break the fight up. Sure he would blast a nigga if necessary, but hopefully all he would have to do is to pop off in the air at the ‘lil niggas. As he walked over to the brawl his homeboys followed suit.

No, he didn’t have shit to do with the fight and didn’t know any of the niggas giving the brutal ass whipping. He didn’t know the nigga getting it that well either, but he didn’t give a fuck. Niggas had to know they just can’t come around there sticking niggas up for they paper with him on the streets.

Bay-Bay broke the fight up and needless to say ever since that day he and Black was the best of friends getting bitches and money together. However, it was something about Black that he didn’t trust. In seven years he still did not have a reason to not trust him so he let his trust issues dissolve.

The lights coming on in the club snapped Bay-Bay out of his trance. He and his boys rolled out the club fucked up and stumbling.

  Chapter 13

It had been a little over two weeks since Quita and Kali met Black and Bay-Bay and there was no word from them niggas yet.

Kali woke up beside her daughter who was sleeping so peacefully. She loved to see her little joy sleeping because she knew Naja had absolutely no care in the world. Sometimes Kali wished that she was still a baby, so that she didn’t stress so much.

The ringing of Kali’s phone snapped her from her daze. Still half asleep she picked up in a sleepy tone.

  “Hello, who dis?”
<
br />   “Whoa ma is that how you answer ya phone?” The caller said.

“Who is this? I don’t have time for this so early in the morning,” she said.

“Yo ma this is Black from the club,” he said.

Kali sat in the middle of her bed Indian style in complete disbelief of who was on the other end of the phone.

“Hello, you still there?” Black asked.

“Oh, my bad. Yeah I’m here. What’s up with you?” She asked him fully awake now.

“Ain’t shit just chillin’ ma. I called to see what you and ya sister got planned for the day.” Black said.

“We don’t have any particular plans for today. Why do you ask?” Kali asked.

“I know it might be a little short notice, but me and my boys just came in town for a few days and we would like to see y’all, I mean if that’s cool,” Black told her.

“Yeah, that’s what’s up, but lemme holla at my sister first to make sure she’s free. What time did y’all wanna get up?” Kali asked. She knew that Quita didn’t have any plans for the day, but she didn’t want to seem too pressed.

“Shit, ma. I was thinking sometime around five. Is that good for you?” He asked her.

“That’s perfect. On the real though, we didn’t think y’all were all that interested in hooking up with us,” Kali told him.

“What makes you say that?” Black asked her.

“I’m just saying it’s been a couple of weeks since we met and I hadn’t heard from you. When I asked my sister she said that she hadn’t spoke to your boy either,” Kali told him. Black couldn’t do anything but laugh because he knew she was telling the truth.

“Yeah you right shorty, but as I remember phone numbers were exchanged between all four of us, and y’all made no attempt to contact us either. Why didn’t y’all hit us up when we didn’t call?” He asked turning it around on them.

“Okay I give up. It’s our bad, so I guess we’re even then,” Kali told him in playful tone.

“I guess we are, for now. Well look shorty, holla at ya sister and hit me back so I can let Bay-Bay know what’s what,” Black told her.

“Ok I will, later,” Kali said disconnecting the call.

As soon as she hung up her phone she started packing a diaper bag for Naja. She was going to take her to the hood babysitter Charmaine. Kali knew she wouldn’t mind babysitting for a few hours. She kept everybody’s kids in the hood.

After she packed Naja’s bag she called Quita to let her know of their sudden plans for the day.

“Hello.” Quita sang into the phone half asleep.

“Wake ya ass up ho!” Kali yelled.

“Damn bitch what you so fuckin’ chipper for? You got some dick last night.” Quita asked her being sarcastic.

“No bitch, but guess who just called me.” Kali said.

“Who called you Kali?” Quita asked.

“Come on Quita, just take a wild guess.” Kali begged.

“Hell no, it’s too damn early in the damn morning to play the guessing game,” Quita spat.

“You’re no fun, party pooper. Anyway Black called me,” Kali told her pratically yelling.

“Ok, who the fuck is Black? Quita asked irritated.

“Quita, I know you remember those niggas from DC that we met at the club a couple of weeks ago,” Kali said.

“Girl, I forgot all about them niggas. Hell they never called so I didn’t think they were interested,” Quita told her.

“Shit me neither sis, but I guess they are. He called me a few minutes ago and said he and his boys are in town for a few days and they want to see us today around five. Are you ‘bout it or what?” Kali asked her.

“I dunno, they seem like they playing games Kali, and why are you calling me? I’m in the next room,” Quita said sounding irritated.

“I didn’t feel like walking downstairs. Anyway, bitch that’s money we both need, so don’t bitch up now!” Kali told her sister trying to change her mind.

“I never bitch up Kali. You know that shit. Let’s do it. I guess.” Quita reluctantly agreed to go.

“Aww, bitch you know you down. Don’t front.” Kali teased.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fuck you Kali,” Quita spat.

“Well go ahead and get yourself together. I gotta get Naja dressed and take her up to Charmaine’s crib. Oh yeah, I also need to call Black back and let him know you down.” Kali was speaking one hundred miles per hour.

“Hey Kali, are you sure you wanna take Naja up ol’girls crib?” Quita asked.

“Hell yeah, shit all I gotta give her ass is a couple of 40 ounces. She’ll babysit all damn night long.” Kali laughed.

“Kali you need Jesus! You not scared that she will ignore Naja because she drunk as fuck?”

“No. Quita she good I’m telling you.” Kali reassured her.

“A’ight then. I’m gonna hop in shower while you’re up ol’girls crib,” Quita told her.

“Bye Quita.”They hung up feeling amped up about the day.

Quita got dressed and went downstairs to join her sister. Kali was still gone.

Quita flopped on the couch and flipped through the channels to find something to watch. She couldn’t find a decent show on so she decided to watch music videos. Soon after Quita began watching T.V. Kali came back to the crib. They sat back and chilled, listening to music waiting for Black to call Kali’s phone. Quita was chain smoking Newports in anticipation of that nigga’s call. Quita was checking her cell phone every five minutes.

“Damn Kali I don’t think them niggas is coming. It’s already five-fifteen and they still haven’t called. I told you I think them niggas is ‘bout games.”

“Just chill Quita they coming maybe they got held up or something,” Kali tried her best to reassure.

“Well they need to at least call or something ‘cause I’m not for it today,” Quita said tired of waiting.

“Like I said Quita chill, take another drink or something. Patience is a virtue little sis,” Kali told her.

“Fuck patience! I’m seventeen remember?” Quita shot back being sarcastic.

“Keep it up smart ass. Of all days you wanna act your age,” Kali told her.

Quita just waved her off and gave her the finger. Kali kept checking her phone to make sure Black hadn’t called, and she just didn’t hear it. Finally at five-forty five Quita’s phone started to ring. She dug through her purse until she found it. She looked at the caller ID but didn’t recognize the number. She noticed that the number was a 212 area code though.

“New York, who in the hell is this?” She asked Kali. Kali just shrugged her shoulders as if to say she didn’t know, and disappered upstairs.

  “Hello.” Quita answered.

“What’s up baby girl?” The caller asked.

“Uhh, nothing, but who is this?”

  “It’s Bay-Bay girl. What’s up y’all ready yet?”

“Nigga we’ve been ready since five o’clock. The question of the day is are y’all ready?” Quita shot.

“Aww, damn shorty that was a low blow, but I’ll let it slide. We on our way right now. We had something to take care of. Your sister gave us directions.”

“Ok bet,” Quita told him and they hung up. Kali came back down stairs half tipsy.

  “Who was that?” She asked.

“That was dem niggas. They on their way now,” Quita told her.

“Oh word? It’s about damn time,” Kali said changing her whole attitude. She began dancing around and singing.

“Yeah it was Bay-Bay, talking ‘bout are y’all ready yet, like we the ones running late.” Quita told her, and they both laughed in unison.

Before Black and Bay-Bay arrived, Quita and Kali were back and fourth in the mirror making sure they still looked fresh. They felt it was necessary to freshen up as well. They rinsed their mouth out with Listerine, and sprayed some of Quita’s Victoria Secret Pear body spray on to cover the smell of alcohol, and green.
