Malice in Wonderland Bundle 3

“That’s mine?” Jabby walks over and takes the sword.
Sleepy B holds her hand out toward Malice, says, “That’s Queen Malice of Wonderland. I vow to work together with her, for peace between our two lands.” She beckons Jabby to stand at her side again. She says, “I’d like to congratulate you on regaining your sword. Everyone, he helped to cancel the kissing spell. And for your service to the jabberwock monsters, I’d like to officially announce that from hereon out, you shall once again be known as Prince Eblis.”
“Oh gosh oh gosh, thank you thank you, Queen!” He kneels down on one knee and bows his head, making Sleepy B feel awkward and unsure of the proper protocol.
She places her hand on his shoulder. “Jabby, look at me. Oops, I called you Jabby again.”
He looks up. “It’s okay, sweety. You can call me that.”
She speaks partly to him, partly for the crowd’s sake. “For so long, we were two different species—or at least appeared to be so. But now it appears, my little hunky monster, that things are different. I like you a lot, Jabby, and so, what I’m asking you today is... Jabby, or Eblis or whatever your name is, will you be my boyfriend?”
He smiles huge. “Oh yes, sweety! I’d love to be!”
The crowd erupts into cheers—even the little girls section is cheering this time.
Jabby stands and the two kiss, as the crowd roars.
They pull their mouths apart and gaze into each others’ eyes while holding each other.
There is a flicker of thought flashing on Jabby’s face.
“What is it, sweety?” Sleepy B says.
“Our mission was to try to save the Queen of Hearts, yet I haven’t even seen her this whole time.”
“Nor have I.” To the Snark she says, “The Queen of Hearts, where is she?”
“Why she’s in that thingamajig...the uh, whatchamacallit.”
She points at the palanquin. “In there?”
“Yes. Oh, please let me kill her, like I had intended to. You can at least grant me that, at least.”
One of the guards around the palanquin nods at her and opens the door—he must have mistakenly thought Sleepy B was giving him a command. Someone in a red gown is pressing the poofy skirt through the door. The Queen of Hearts peers out, still seated.
Boos erupt from the jabberwocks.
Sleepy B gestures with her hand. “No, no, put her back. Now, Snark, I’m afraid I can’t allow you to kill the Queen of Hearts. In fact, I made a promise to try to save her from that very thing, as a matter of fact. No, instead—”
She hears a shout of shock from the crowd, followed by a shift of increased conversation.
When she looks into the crowd, she sees a lot of its members are turned around—many are pointing off in the distance.
She lifts her gaze and gasps, as she sees a twirling funnel of wind off in the distance, in the forest area, and the tornado—small as far as tornadoes go, but still no doubt dangerous—is barreling their way.
Dorothy must have seen the Queen of Hearts in the palanquin, and unleashed her magic tornado.
The sounds of hundreds of flapping wings fill the air, mixed in with the shrieks of little girls. Hundreds of jabberwocks are flying through the air, seeking safety.
“The little girls won’t be able to get away,” Jabby says, shouting to be heard over the noise.
Unfortunately his words are projected from the amplifying device, increasing the girls’ panic.
Sleepy B says, “Little girls, stay where you are. That tornado is driven by magic to seek out the Queen of Hearts, and her only. We shall give the tornado the Queen of Hearts and direct its path away from us, and keep everyone else safe. But you all must stay where you are—do not attempt to flee, or you may trample each other!” She turns around to look at Malice and Hatter. “Will you stay and talk to them, and keep them calm?”
They nod and step up to the amplifier.
Sleepy B looks to the tornado, on a straight path toward them—perhaps twenty seconds remain until it reaches its goal.
She motions for Jabby to follow her. She flies to the palanquin, says to the guards, “Lift it up and follow me!”
They comply immediately—that’s one of the perks of being Queen.
Sleepy B flies off to the side of the clearing. The tornado shifts course to track the palanquin’s movement. Soon they are flying above forest area.
“There!” Jabby says, while pointing at a treeless hill rising up in the forest.
As soon as they set the palanquin on top of the hill, the Queen of Hearts shouts, “I demand that you take me out of here, this instant!”
Sleepy B shouts, “I suggest you stay inside. There’s a tornado coming this way.” She knows the Queen of Hearts is shackled up, so is unlikely to be able to open the door, but a warning can’t hurt—she doesn’t have the time to unshackle her—the tornado is fast approaching.
“Let’s get out of its path!” Jabby shouts.
“Good idea!” Sleepy B replies. There are a few random jabberwocks flying in the area—she gestures for them to follow her, to a safe distance away.
They hover, watching, hearing the loud racket, and feeling the fierce winds whipping at them. As they’d hoped, the tornado had veered off when the Queen of Hearts was moved—the crowd of little girls are all safe, watching from a distance.
The tornado churns through the forest, and passes over the hill. The corkscrew winds swirl numerous broken trees—Sleepy B hopes the Queen of Hearts doesn’t end up getting killed by flying debris.
The tornado continues onward through the forest, leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
“Well it seems we accomplished our mission,” Sleepy B says.
“Quite,” says Jabby.
“Do you think I should go and talk to the crowds more?”
“Yes... Wait, who’s that? Is that Humpty?”
She looks to where he’s pointing. There, on the back end of the clearing, behind the crowd of girls, Humpty has emerged.
CHAPTER THIRTY
SLEEPY B AND JABBY fly over and land in front of Humpty.
He grins. “Congratulations on becoming Queen, Sleepy. I saw the whole thing from our hiding place.”
“Has she left?” Sleepy says, referring to Dorothy. “I already promised I’d help her escape, so I’ll have to let her go.”
Humpty nods. “It seems her diabolical plan was successful. There were things she didn’t tell us before, but she sent me out here to tell you now.”
“Did she say where the tornado would take her?” Sleepy B asks.
“Yes, the tornado shall take her to the outside world.”
“What?! Why?”
“It has something to do with the magic involved with her tornadoes. She wanted to bring Alice over into our world by a tornado, but in order to do that, she had to send someone of equal stature to the outside world. The magic basically required her to trade one important person for someone equally important.”
Sleepy B’s jaw is hanging open in shock. “So, did she summon another tornado to come in from the outside world?”
“She said that she did, but it shall be arriving far off to the west, to deposit Alice in the wastelands.”
“This is not good,” Jabby mutters whilst shaking his head.
“It’s absolutely disastrous!” Sleepy B exclaims. “Bringing Alice back could set in motion all those horrific future events we’ve been seeking to avoid, and could end up destroying us all! Why? Why would Dorothy do such a horrible thing?”
“I can tell you what Dorothy told me. She said the time has come for her and Alice to finally settle the rift that’s come between them. She said she shall either convince Alice to rule by her side, or she shall kill Alice...unless Alice kills her first.”
“Crikey,” Sleepy B mutters.
She looks to the tornado, off in the distance, so far off that its howling winds sound to them like a whisper, about to slip over the horizon, and disappear out of sight.
