HOT AND BOTHERED

by Jo Leigh

Lee ran her hands over his back, testing, making sure he was real, and this was real and that she hadn't gone crazy with wanting him.

The taste of him, wintergreen with a hint of coffee, convinced her. The scent of him, so masculine even his soap couldn't hide it. And especially the feel of him. She knew it was true. And so good, it made all other good things feel ashamed.

After a long time, she pulled back and looked at him with clear eyes and a steady pulse. There was still one more thing to talk about.

  "What?" he asked.

"Don't get me wrong," she said. "This truly is the most romantic thing in the history of the world, but I was thinking maybe we should continue in the other room."

He laughed, kissed her again, then took her hand and led her out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. They sat on the edge of the bed, knees touching, hands entwined. "There's something else," she said.

  "Do I need to worry?"

She shook her head. "God, I hope not."

  "Why doesn't that reassure me?"

She drew in a deep breath and took the plunge. "Remember that upset stomach I had about a week ago?"

He nodded, his eyebrows coming down in confusion. "Sure."

"Well, it wasn't an upset stomach."

Concern joined the confusion on his face. "Did you go to a doctor?"

  "Trevor, I'm pregnant."

The news hit him slowly, in stages. First his eyebrows went up. Then his face paled about a shade and a half. His jaw dropped, leaving his mouth open. His gaze traveled down her body, pausing to stare at the general vicinity of her stomach, then climbed back up again.

"Are you okay?" she asked, her spirits sinking.

And then he smiled. A broad, thrilling, heart-stopping grin that told her everything she needed to know.

"We're going to have a baby?"

She nodded. "In about eight months."

  "But didn't we…"

  "Yes, we did. Go figure."

  "Holy cow."

  "Yeah."

He blinked a few times, then kind of shrugged. "Well, shoot. I guess we should get married soon."

She felt the last bit of tension leave her chest. "I guess we should."

"A baby?" he repeated, breaking into a goofy grin.

  "Our baby."

"This was some experiment," he said.

  She nodded.

"There's only one thing I was wondering."

  "What's that?"

  "Why aren't we having sex?"

The words that had started it all.

She smiled intimately and leaned forward. "Because we're going to be too busy making love." Just as her lips touched his, her phone rang. She ignored it, knowing it was Katy, or Ben, or Susan, or Peter. Knowing she'd tell them all, but not tonight. Then the phone in his jacket started ringing too.

"Hold that thought," he ordered, snatching her phone and walking both annoying contraptions out of the bedroom. A moment later he was back, closing the door. "Now, where were we?"

She smiled with all the happiness she'd ever known, all the faith she'd ever held, all the love there ever was. "I believe we were just at the beginning."
