“It doesn’t look like you’re trying very hard.” He countered, wanting to hear the jovial tone of her voice.

“This isn’t one of the times I have to work for it.” She had moved from being on her back to up on her knees waiting on the bed as he pulled off his shirt.

“I think I’ll take a shower. We’ve been on the road for what feels like forever, and I just want to get clean.” He loved that her face fell. It shouldn’t have been this much fun to tease her, but damned if it wasn’t. Had he ever been attached to a woman so much that he just wanted to make her happy? Tyson didn’t think so. This was a once in his lifetime thing. Now he just hoped that it lasted. Hell, he hoped they both didn’t regret this whole affair because sometimes he didn’t see how they were going to get out of this unscathed. “Why don’t you come with me? Then I can get you filthy dirty before I wash you clean.”

Just like that, she perked up and hopped off the bed. She could really move when she wanted to. All he could see was pink skin and red hair as she dashed into the bathroom.

“You go pretty fast when you need to don’t you, sugar?”

“I have lots of hidden talents. Stick around, and you’ll see more of them.” That look of hers was back, and he wondered exactly what was going on inside her head. Was she thinking of him going to the prison she recently vacated, or was she thinking that she was going to get pinned with another bad rap? So many troubles clouded her eyes in the last few days, but he couldn’t do anything about them now. All he could do was give her tonight and hope in the next few days they could figure out how to get out of this fire that they’d jumped into from the treacherous frying pan they were in the other day.

“That is my plan, little lady, to stick around as long as possible.”
