Blood World (Undying Mercenaries Series Book 8)

Confused, but happy about the praise, Etta headed off to bed.
I sat out on my porch in a rocking chair, wondering what Evelyn had been after. She hadn’t wanted to kill me, that was for sure. She must have wanted information, or just to worm her way back into my life to keep an eye on me.
I’d been paid to spy before—but I’d never had anyone spying on me. It was a different feeling, and I found that I didn’t much care for the sensation.
Star-gazing without the help of Etta’s scope, I tried to count all the places in the sky I’d visited. It was strange to think that those cold, gleaming lights up there had been shining for countless years before I existed, and that they’d continue to shine countless years after I was permed someday.
Getting a little drunk, I noticed the bugs were nipping at me, but I didn’t worry about it. I fell asleep on my porch sometime after midnight, and I dreamed of people and planets I’d forgotten about long ago.
